Bireli is a living legend. I've played with him when he was here in the states. If your going to get your ass kicked, might as well be from the best. The quality of his inventions is awesome. He is like the Oscar Peterson of the guitar. His standard will be the bar that all aspiring guitarist will have to contend with.
Believe me, it's composed alright. One does not have to like it, but, keep listening to it, and you will see. It's syncopated in some places, metered in others, but it's all in real time, within the framework of a tune, and played live in front of an audience. This what makes it so remarkable
experts like this so much. This is perfection in mind of players... it's like something you chase while playing.... he plays notes an excelent gipsy jazz players only dream to play. believe me it's a fact.... Still i get your point, to a common listener this is too much complicated, but believe me, as soon as you get the core of this music you get to bireli genius.
@Davidsim1 yes. You are right! You are right. People are force fed. The problem is that the arts channels that actually do try and broadcast this kind of stuff end up on channel 89 and no-one watches. If it was on letterman every day it would become "the cool, in thing" but the networks don't see that far ahead. They are in cahoots with the record companies and the record companies won't promote people like this because they are few and far between and they can't tell them what to do.
@Davidsim1 why is lady gaga famous, and this guy only relatively little known to anyone outside the jazz world. Yo Yo Ma is famous....why is he the only world renowned household name who is purely and instrumentalist?? Is it because his name is Yo Yo??? He happens to be one of the very best, but that's not why he's famous.
To all the 17-year-olds that hang around youtube watching videos of korn, blink 182, Linkin' Park or some other horrible band, and think that Kurt Cobain was the greatest guitarist ever: I hope you watch this.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this... very good playing, but overall it lacks something. Modern free jazz horn players, etc are free (which I see this being), but still composed. This just felt uncomposed mixes of licks. Part of me wonders if Bireli is sitting asking himself, do people really like this craziness?
In America we get American Idol and the sorry ass rappers who think they are about something... in France you get this... and Americans think they are advanced??? NOT
he is the BOSS!
this guy never ceases to amaze me... Man, what a talent!
Absolutely nails it and owns it... and love when he plays 'Daphne' with the brilliant Maestro Richard Gallliano!!!

Why haven't more people seen this video, it is absolutely stupendously mind boggling.
Respect, utter respect to all three musicians.

Bravissimo e basta.
