2:34- actually, every plant on the level will eat you, that just depends on the position of the plant when you pass in front of it, if it's "sitting down" them it will no doubt eat you, but if they are "standing up" you can pass in front of it and nothing will happen.
At the time I didn't know know either, I discovered that while trying to get the Platinum relic on papu's pyramid too XD. I discovered after while I was wondering I sometimes the plants ate me and others, don't. Also, if you collect the 3 seconds boxes on the pyramid that makes you fall a floor, when you get on those plants they'll always be standing up, I think that's because of timing.

When he said Coco Park I thought "Let me guess it's those two crates that someone at NaughtyDog decided it would be a good idea to put them in a Stupidly awkward position." Surely enough they were the sole reason. It was #2.
That one crate in Dragon Mines between the speed boost platform and the finish line is pure hell. The one you have to jump to get, but you have to go through the slow terrain. Edit: Oops. Lewis mentioned it at the end of the video. Yeah, that one.
Sometimes I wish there was a Big Brother mode in this game. Like, remember how when you were a kid, and there was a challenge or something that you just could NOT get right, so you gave the controller to your big brother who did it with little to no difficulty or maybe, showed you how to do it and then you got it? Something like that where players can mentor other players and teach them how to get better at the game and get those *really* hard challenges. Maybe that's a stupid idea, but it's one I felt like sharing because I actually learned a great deal from watching your videos. Like, I could NEVER unlock N. Tropy, even on the original CTR back then. But after watching some of your videos and learning from you, I was able to beat all of his times in the time trials (and a few of Oxide's, working on that now). So, long story short, thank you for making these videos and educating more novice players, like me, and helping us be better racers. Drive safe!
The plants will eat you regardless of what part of the track their on. Their position is what matters. When they’re kinda bouncing, they won’t eat you. But when they look like they’re scrunched up, they will eat you. Also, the reason why Sewer speedway was such a pain in the ass the last time you tried is because the physics in that track were jacked up. That has since been fixed.
I'm currently trying to get gold paint. I was doing the tracks in order and got stuck at Sewer Speedway. I got stressed out and gave up. I came back a few days later and just went around as fast as I could, getting what boxes were in my way, took the shortcut successfully for the first time, and got gold in about 2 tries. So, yeah. I've learned to not stress about the boxes too much....
Haven't gotten all of them at this current time, but i can say that there's one good thing about Sewer Speedway's platinum, it taught me how to consistently pull off the shortcut
Dragon Mines, Coco Park, and Blizzard Bluff are the hardest three for me. On a side note, there is a track you can get Platinum on without touching a single yellow box.
Omg unlocked the platinum paintjob literally yesterday, took me 3 days total, definetly underestimated how much of a challenge it would have been Once I got the hang of it the last 9 relics where way easier than the others though.
Wish I knew earlier that on easy difficulty the times are shorter for relics too haha. I went through hell. Totally expected N.Gin Labs at 1st. I was repeating it for straight 3 hours until i finally did that. Single most difficult thing in the entire game IMO. Also good job on doing these!
@@WumpaLewis n.gin labs and papus pyramid plat relics on normal/hard took me much more time than hardest oxide ghosts so I guess i would place these two above all challenges tho other relics are on pair and some much easier than trials. Depends on track.
Agreed that N. Gin Labs is the N. Sanest one in the whole adventure mode. Do not agree that blue fire trick can help to get the platinum, not at least on a hard mode, where it did not help me.
So a funny and somewhat depressing thing was this, i did the relic races, every single one, up until ngin labs on medium difficulty, even sewer speedway which was basically the cull of the noob for me, because this was the course i tried a ton when i was suuuper new to the game (a few days after it came out) and was just having a horrible time, but i still finished platinum for it, and then to turn around and swallow my pride later on cuz i couldnt do ngin labs (i also was doing the ctr races and stuff too, so it hurt even mofe)
N-Gin Labs medium mode: Lap 3/3, time: 1:02:99 After hitting all of the 3 boxes at the finish line: time 0:52:99 Platinum relic time: 0:53:00 Major clutch, #1 hardest
There is no time difference in relic races between classic mode and nitro fueled hard mode. Weren't too bad, but I wanted to collect all the trophies since CTR is my all time favorite game xD
For people struggling with the Coco Park crates that are in the air, notice the weird bend the red and white curb makes near the top of the hill? Try driving towards that and jumping, it works a bit better than randomly trying to jump and get the crates. There's a bend on both sides.
So I was doing this last night and thought it was just me that hated sewer speedway relic race. Doing it on medium and wish you could upload pictures, as I missed it by 1 millisecond :(
PS4 CTR tips I found out: 1. Taller/Wider characters hit higher boxes (Time trials in Coco park/ N. Gin labs.) 2. You can still use cheat codes from the original PS1 version. You can unlock Penta penguin. Though not all work (N. Tropy especially).
Did this AND Oxide's ghost within like two weeks from release, I got EXTREMELY lucky on the Oxide race, glad they fixed the shortcut because I rarely managed to get it right. But, don't you think the shortcut now feels odd? As in, the jump to get there feels strange, almost as if an unknown force lifted you up slightly. Definitely feels different than in the PS1,but I'm not complaining.
Not tryna flex, but I found most of the tracks easy to platinum when I first went through adventure mode. Papu's Pyramid was kinda tough but with the shortcut it was easy. In Coco Park there's a little ramp next to the hill boxes which you can jump off to get a better jump. For N. Gin Labs I reversed at the start and got 2 lines of boxes and got the other two on laps 1 and 2.
Oh nice xD didnt know they were harder on hard diff :D tbh i tought about it when i grinded the plat paint but didnt think much of it after due i have played old ctr so much.
I just did that challenge yesterday and goddamn I totally agree. I've been on VC in Discord with my friend and I scared hell out of them yelling at the Papu's Pyramid. This one and Sewer Speedway were my last tracks where I've got Golden Relic. I'd rather play Dev Times than doing Platinum Relics once again. Pure nightmare... (and i've been playing on Hard Mode)
I got the platinum relics in every single track like after two weeks since the game was released. However, those tracks you mentioned here were also extremely hard even when I knew them all because I played the game on ps1 and a pc emulator as well. Some mechanics changed but the game was still the same as the original one. They should fix servers and add a no power up game mode too
Just recently my game data was deleted on my adventure mode, at 100%. I still have everything I unlocked including king chicken but I’m starting over from the beginning on adventure mode when I was SOOOOO close to unlocking all the post game content 😭
I’be got two adventure modes going. One on hard and one on easy. The easy one is solely for paint jobs and the hard is for the trophy. I have no clue how many times I’ve attempted Papu’s Pyramid today. Same with N. Gin Labs. I got all of the boxes on NGL but I was still like 2 seconds short of platinum. My worst tracks are Papu’s Pyramid, Sewer Speedway, and N Gin Labs. I will probably add to it by the time I’m done.
Alright, here’s my list: 3: Dragon mines. The only Hard part i had was the mine cart and spiral, other then that, it was easy enough. 2: N. Gin labs. I thought this would he the hardest, but I Think nummer 1 is way harder. The problem here was what the optimal way to get the bundle of crates, which I did... and it made it easier. 1: Papu’s Pyramid. Oh boy do I HATE to get those boxes in a optimal way. On the 1st lap, you need to hit all the crates jumping back down the spiral, and you need to hit all the crates above the spiral on lap 1 and 2. Everything else is just luck. My honourable mentions are Crash cove and sewer speedway. Crash Cove, I needed to hit all the crates, that’s the only reason, and sewer speedway, yeah... It’s Hard to hit the crates while trying to be fast. Coco park wasn’t on this list, since i did it on my first try while missing 8 crates. Also those 3 tracks at the top (my list) I did without hitting all the crates, meaning yes, you can get platinum relic without hitting all the crates, but i wouldn’t recomend not hitting all the crates
Never been a fan of the relic races even on the original so just finished each track when I did it. Got quite a few sapphire just because I couldn’t be arsed. Much prefer racing properly to beat the ghosts rather than taking wide turns to hit the boxes
I've heard that getting all boxes gives 10 seconds off and I just now realized that it's not that all crates give you a total of 10 seconds but a bonus of -10 seconds.
I think we struggled on the same maps, not only did i have to do this once for me (ps4), my friend asked if i could relic race for him on his console (xbox). Did them on hard on my hard play through didn't think there was a difference
my list 3 - Dragon Mines Fuck that crate at the end of the track. I think I've beaten the track by going back for that crate first, on the 1st lap, and then going Sonic speed through the level, but I don't remember. 2 - Papu's Pyramid I'd always fuck it up somehow, either by the plants eating me, falling off the edge, etc.. Still not that bad, though. 1 - Sewer Speedway It took me *a lot* of attempts. I could never get the boxes, because they are scrambled in a terrible way. When I lost the time by something like 0.4 seconds I felt like destroying something. BTW this was the first track (or game) that made me throw my (brother's [at the time]) controller on the ground. I literally just couldn't do it.
I got relic platinum on hard without collecting all crates, and I didn't even know you could lose 10 seconds if you do, It probably won't matter much if your too slow. Sewer Speedway still gives me nightmares for both relic races and Oxides ghost before they fixed the shortcut. Also great vid.
N. Gin Labs by far. As long as you have a decent logical path in Sewer Speedway, you honestly don’t need to drive that fast. Papu’s Pyramid has one difficult lap realistically, but once you get to lap 2 it’s doable.
For me, I'm an avid relic racer, a few number 1s on Xbox and a lot of top 10s. I never really had any difficult ones, but some are really infuriating, like Papu's pyramid, Meteor Gorge, N.Gin Labs and Dragon Mines. Blizzard Bluff, Tiger Temple and Crash Cove are my honourable mentions for what have frustrated me the most.
The thing I hate about relic races is that the boxes are placed in such a way as to discourage finding the best route around the track. Some of them require you to NOT take shortcuts.
I love CTR when it came out, but never tried Nitro fueled even tho my sister bought it for he switch. One day I decided to actually try it, I would complete the game 100% and get every platinum relic on hard difficulty Holy fuck it was hard, the drifting is different, the turning is different, the AI is harder, so it was really bad at a beginning. Then I started U-turning, and this became the highest skill ceiling Kart Race I've ever played, what a masterpiece
I did not know you got -10 seconds So there were probably times I would’ve got the platinum relic but restarted the map because I thought the time wasn’t quick enough. Also I got the platinum relics on hard because I wanted to be the adventure mode on hard but I didn’t know it made it any harder otherwise I would have done it on easy!
There is a lot of tracks where you dont need to have all the boxes (mainly where blue fire, except N. Gin fucking labs) Tiny arena, polar pass, Blizard Bluff, Sewer spedway , Cortex Castle, Hot air Skyway
As other people have alluded to, there seems to be no difference between any of the difficulties in relic races. I believe the difficulty only refers to CPU difficulty and the amount of time you have to do each crystal gathering challenge for purple CTR tokens.
In normal and hard mode, you have to be faster by about 5-10 seconds depending on the track. For instance N.Gin Labs is 53 seconds for platinum on normal and hard, but on easy it is 58 seconds. On most tracks, that 5 second difference is negligible, but some tracks like N.Gin Labs and Sewer Speedway, for some players that makes a huge difference. Personally I have yet to beat N.Gin Labs legitimately without factoring in the lap skip glitch on normal/hard, and I barely clear it on easy.
Ofcoarse sewer speed way isnt that hard, the thing that makes it feel hard is that shortcut... but once you learn how to do the short cut pretty consistently it drops down to one of the easier ones.
I too struggled with coco park for the same reasons! I dont love relic races in general but the completionist in me had to finish all platinums. I finished them in classic, not sure how the times compare to easy mode in the nitro fueled adventure?
Some of this boxes are really annoying, I wouldn't say coco's park is one of the hardest because you can skip the tricky boxes, but the jump boxes are evil. You can jump over them, and or not high enough, or a little to the left, you have to time your jump just so.
Hey WumpaLewis, I had the same thought recently, already had the plat paint job but just finished buying all the rest (except 3 spirited paints). I also just cleared hard 101% (Part of me would love a YT Channel or the times) and I believe you definitely can do it on hard mate - apparently some tracks have 6 secs knocked off but most are the same I reckon :) I love that you get annoyed by the same parts and the way you pause it for Coco Park, P.S. you were actually wrong with Coco Park and you can easily get platinum by hammering boosts each lap and focusing on the 2's and 3's by the end and totally ignoring both sides of that last bit :D MY LIST > N.Gin Labs Papu's Pyramid Dingo Canyon HM - Dragon Mines, just because it can suck a D My relic tips are - 1) first lap take left boxes, second take "middle", and last take right side. 2) If there are 2 sec or 3 sec boxes before the finish line you don't want to leave any of them for the last lap (pointless). 3) Only focus on perfect drift boosting in any long gaps between any boxes. 4) If you can clear an entire portion of a track of boxes, especially after a sacred blue fire boost pad, do so and then next lap boost/blue fire the hell out of that section. 5) Reset the track if you miss a box in the air, when there are 3 so you have to hit one per lap.
The worst part is even if you buy ALL the paint job and now you've earn the Platinum relic paint job you still wouldn't have them all the only one that's missing is from the sour patch kids kart set which I'm hoping they will release the kart set to everyone after their deal ends in March 2020
Judging from ps1, Papus Pyamid and N Gin Labs is by far the top 2 for me. Probaly with Sewer Speedway at third place. I still havent gotten the one in N Gin Labs..

holy shit.. I didn't know that hard and medium time trial times were different. I completed hard adventure 100% on the release weekend and sewer speedway was awful to play at that time. I probably would have chose easy for time trials if i knew there was a difference. N. Gin labs and papus pyramid were the hardest tracks to get platinum for me personally (sewer speedway felt kinda awkward)
I got the Platinum Relics in Hard Mode cuz I wanted to kill 2 birds in one shot... Took me more than one, that's for sure. My top 3 is: 3. Oxide Station cuz I somehow managed to glitched that map more than once. 2. Blizzard Bluff. Yes, despite of being a circle with ice, it's the ice and the weird box locations that made me try more than I thought. 1. Papu's Pyramid. Yeah this track can seriously fuck off.
I struggled in N Gin Labs until I changed my strategy. Since there are 4 column of crate before the finish line, getting them at the end of each lap is useless. You will waste time trying to get the four columns in three go. Moreover, if you get a column during your last lap, you'll get 9 seconds but you'll waste them because you'll go through the finish line 1 secondes later. So I go through one column at the very beginning and destroy a second one by getting back to the finish line. Then I get the remaining column at the end of the first and second lap. Getting the platinum relics ended up being easy
If you're playing on normal or hard difficulty, and you get platinum on Hot Air Skyway, then you've fucking made it mate. Definitely the hardest and most bullshit relic race in the game. I'm shocked that other people in the comments aren't mentioning it.

On Coco Park I NEVER struggled with the floating crates in the left side....but goddamn those on the right side were soul crushing.

Just recently my game data was deleted on my adventure mode, at 100%. I still have everything I unlocked including king chicken but I’m starting over from the beginning on adventure mode when I was SOOOOO close to unlocking all the post game content 😭
These relics took me so much to get the Relic Platinum Paintjob
I’be got two adventure modes going. One on hard and one on easy. The easy one is solely for paint jobs and the hard is for the trophy.
I have no clue how many times I’ve attempted Papu’s Pyramid today. Same with N. Gin Labs. I got all of the boxes on NGL but I was still like 2 seconds short of platinum.
My worst tracks are Papu’s Pyramid, Sewer Speedway, and N Gin Labs. I will probably add to it by the time I’m done.

I struggle with all of them.
Alright, here’s my list:
3: Dragon mines. The only Hard part i had was the mine cart and spiral, other then that, it was easy enough.
2: N. Gin labs. I thought this would he the hardest, but I Think nummer 1 is way harder. The problem here was what the optimal way to get the bundle of crates, which I did... and it made it easier.
1: Papu’s Pyramid. Oh boy do I HATE to get those boxes in a optimal way. On the 1st lap, you need to hit all the crates jumping back down the spiral, and you need to hit all the crates above the spiral on lap 1 and 2. Everything else is just luck.
My honourable mentions are Crash cove and sewer speedway. Crash Cove, I needed to hit all the crates, that’s the only reason, and sewer speedway, yeah... It’s Hard to hit the crates while trying to be fast.
Coco park wasn’t on this list, since i did it on my first try while missing 8 crates. Also those 3 tracks at the top (my list) I did without hitting all the crates, meaning yes, you can get platinum relic without hitting all the crates, but i wouldn’t recomend not hitting all the crates
Never been a fan of the relic races even on the original so just finished each track when I did it. Got quite a few sapphire just because I couldn’t be arsed. Much prefer racing properly to beat the ghosts rather than taking wide turns to hit the boxes
I've heard that getting all boxes gives 10 seconds off and I just now realized that it's not that all crates give you a total of 10 seconds but a bonus of -10 seconds.

I think we struggled on the same maps, not only did i have to do this once for me (ps4), my friend asked if i could relic race for him on his console (xbox).
Did them on hard on my hard play through didn't think there was a difference

Fuck that crate at the end of the track. I think I've beaten the track by going back for that crate first, on the 1st lap, and then going Sonic speed through the level, but I don't remember.
2 - Papu's Pyramid
I'd always fuck it up somehow, either by the plants eating me, falling off the edge, etc.. Still not that bad, though.
1 - Sewer Speedway
It took me *a lot* of attempts. I could never get the boxes, because they are scrambled in a terrible way. When I lost the time by something like 0.4 seconds I felt like destroying something. BTW this was the first track (or game) that made me throw my (brother's [at the time]) controller on the ground. I literally just couldn't do it.
Here's a tip for that box at Dragon Mines.
U-turn at the boost panel so you make a sharp enough turn while getting enough speed to jump into the box.
I got relic platinum on hard without collecting all crates, and I didn't even know you could lose 10 seconds if you do, It probably won't matter much if your too slow. Sewer Speedway still gives me nightmares for both relic races and Oxides ghost before they fixed the shortcut. Also great vid.

N. Gin Labs by far. As long as you have a decent logical path in Sewer Speedway, you honestly don’t need to drive that fast. Papu’s Pyramid has one difficult lap realistically, but once you get to lap 2 it’s doable.
N. Gin Labs is tricky but once you get the hang of it, its more of a medium difficulty. Sewer Speedway and Dragon Mines are some of the worst
Definitely dragon mines. That one awkward box is my death.
For me, I'm an avid relic racer, a few number 1s on Xbox and a lot of top 10s. I never really had any difficult ones, but some are really infuriating, like Papu's pyramid, Meteor Gorge, N.Gin Labs and Dragon Mines. Blizzard Bluff, Tiger Temple and Crash Cove are my honourable mentions for what have frustrated me the most.
I want to see you do this after the platinum run in Crash 2 & 3, but on Hard mode and all Nitro Kart + DLC tracks
No differences of crate displacement or Relic time changes in any difficulty
Coming back to this video after completing several dev times makes me realize how easy all of these are.

The thing I hate about relic races is that the boxes are placed in such a way as to discourage finding the best route around the track. Some of them require you to NOT take shortcuts.
I love CTR when it came out, but never tried Nitro fueled even tho my sister bought it for he switch. One day I decided to actually try it, I would complete the game 100% and get every platinum relic on hard difficulty
Holy fuck it was hard, the drifting is different, the turning is different, the AI is harder, so it was really bad at a beginning. Then I started U-turning, and this became the highest skill ceiling Kart Race I've ever played, what a masterpiece
I did not know you got -10 seconds So there were probably times I would’ve got the platinum relic but restarted the map because I thought the time wasn’t quick enough. Also I got the platinum relics on hard because I wanted to be the adventure mode on hard but I didn’t know it made it any harder otherwise I would have done it on easy!
Did Them on medium, 1# blizzard f***ing bluff, 2# sewer speedway, 3# this might sound stupid but I super struggled with roos tube xD

There is a lot of tracks where you dont need to have all the boxes (mainly where blue fire, except N. Gin fucking labs)

As other people have alluded to, there seems to be no difference between any of the difficulties in relic races. I believe the difficulty only refers to CPU difficulty and the amount of time you have to do each crystal gathering challenge for purple CTR tokens.
In normal and hard mode, you have to be faster by about 5-10 seconds depending on the track. For instance N.Gin Labs is 53 seconds for platinum on normal and hard, but on easy it is 58 seconds. On most tracks, that 5 second difference is negligible, but some tracks like N.Gin Labs and Sewer Speedway, for some players that makes a huge difference. Personally I have yet to beat N.Gin Labs legitimately without factoring in the lap skip glitch on normal/hard, and I barely clear it on easy.

Ofcoarse sewer speed way isnt that hard, the thing that makes it feel hard is that shortcut... but once you learn how to do the short cut pretty consistently it drops down to one of the easier ones.
I too struggled with coco park for the same reasons! I dont love relic races in general but the completionist in me had to finish all platinums. I finished them in classic, not sure how the times compare to easy mode in the nitro fueled adventure?
Some of this boxes are really annoying, I wouldn't say coco's park is one of the hardest because you can skip the tricky boxes, but the jump boxes are evil. You can jump over them, and or not high enough, or a little to the left, you have to time your jump just so.
Hey WumpaLewis, I had the same thought recently, already had the plat paint job but just finished buying all the rest (except 3 spirited paints). I also just cleared hard 101% (Part of me would love a YT Channel or the times) and I believe you definitely can do it on hard mate - apparently some tracks have 6 secs knocked off but most are the same I reckon :) I love that you get annoyed by the same parts and the way you pause it for Coco Park, P.S. you were actually wrong with Coco Park and you can easily get platinum by hammering boosts each lap and focusing on the 2's and 3's by the end and totally ignoring both sides of that last bit :D

My relic tips are - 1) first lap take left boxes, second take "middle", and last take right side. 2) If there are 2 sec or 3 sec boxes before the finish line you don't want to leave any of them for the last lap (pointless). 3) Only focus on perfect drift boosting in any long gaps between any boxes. 4) If you can clear an entire portion of a track of boxes, especially after a sacred blue fire boost pad, do so and then next lap boost/blue fire the hell out of that section. 5) Reset the track if you miss a box in the air, when there are 3 so you have to hit one per lap.
The worst part is even if you buy ALL the paint job and now you've earn the Platinum relic paint job you still wouldn't have them all the only one that's missing is from the sour patch kids kart set which I'm hoping they will release the kart set to everyone after their deal ends in March 2020
Judging from ps1, Papus Pyamid and N Gin Labs is by far the top 2 for me. Probaly with Sewer Speedway at third place. I still havent gotten the one in N Gin Labs..

I think the Oxide ghosts are harder in general, especially because there's the CNK tracks too

ThatBoiiLewis25 Lmao, I haven’t even unlocked N.Tropy yet!! I’ll probably switch to easy mode and try and get the gold and (after a lot of practice) platinum on that mode. :’)

holy shit.. I didn't know that hard and medium time trial times were different. I completed hard adventure 100% on the release weekend and sewer speedway was awful to play at that time. I probably would have chose easy for time trials if i knew there was a difference. N. Gin labs and papus pyramid were the hardest tracks to get platinum for me personally (sewer speedway felt kinda awkward)
Hard and medium are the same. The difference is only on easy.
I did them on Switch, but I have to wait for the ptsd to go away before doing them on PS4
I got the Platinum Relics in Hard Mode cuz I wanted to kill 2 birds in one shot... Took me more than one, that's for sure.
My top 3 is:
3. Oxide Station cuz I somehow managed to glitched that map more than once.
2. Blizzard Bluff. Yes, despite of being a circle with ice, it's the ice and the weird box locations that made me try more than I thought.
1. Papu's Pyramid. Yeah this track can seriously fuck off.
I struggled in N Gin Labs until I changed my strategy. Since there are 4 column of crate before the finish line, getting them at the end of each lap is useless. You will waste time trying to get the four columns in three go. Moreover, if you get a column during your last lap, you'll get 9 seconds but you'll waste them because you'll go through the finish line 1 secondes later. So I go through one column at the very beginning and destroy a second one by getting back to the finish line. Then I get the remaining column at the end of the first and second lap. Getting the platinum relics ended up being easy
Is this game harder than the original CTR?
There is no difference on easy, medium or hard I believe.

Tracks like N.Gin Labs and Hotair Skyway I cheesed when the lap skips were still there.
If you're playing on normal or hard difficulty, and you get platinum on Hot Air Skyway, then you've fucking made it mate. Definitely the hardest and most bullshit relic race in the game. I'm shocked that other people in the comments aren't mentioning it.
