I really, really love the sentiment in the line "I'm America's son, this is where I come from". He's claiming ownership of a shared identity and shared stake in America alongside other Americans, rather than emphasizing a separate identity or saying "this is not my America." It's the kind of message that unifies a divided country in the face of its faults and inequalities, rather than further fracture it.
he had that opportunity. this is an awesome song. but he blew it with the loose "Trump country" reference. there's no attempt at unity here. which is a shame because Gary Clark Jr. is one of the most talented, succinct blues guitarists of all time. i'm happy he expresses his experiences as he sees fit, and i will forever support the rights of him and every other artist to do so but this is a divisive song
It's a strange sort of fuckery to call someone's rejection of an ideology of division...divisive. It's like saying Jews are divisive if they are intolerant of Nazis.
@@mattphillips3755 it's strange sort of fuckery to project an ideology of division onto an enormous geographic area and millions of people. it's disingenuous to circle a large area of a map and say these people are devisive.
Yes Lord, the new real blues. This amazing bluesman stresses a new generation of blues. Yes its life. It might be pretty to many but life experiences are real and garyclarkjr shares his generational Blues. Sing the Blues man!!! His guitar has a personality of its on. His skills cannot be put to words. Play it garyclarkjr! Play it!!. ❤❤❤❤❤
When I saw he'd performed for SNL, I wondered if he had played this song, specifically the unfiltered version. I think he would blown up some skulls if he'd of done that.
I looooooove this song. I heard it for the first time in my car and the music alone had me hooked! The lyrics........wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽”I’m America’s Son!” Yeeeeees!
FINALLY GOT THEM GRAMMIES U DESERVE ..GOT 2 SEE U AT BALDWINSVILLE NY & FOLLOWED U 2 PORT CHESTER NY, BOTH FRONT .....YOU DESERVE EVERYTHING &SO MUCH MORE..KICK ASS BAND ✌❤🌎🎸👑

Amazing again Gary! Damn excellence! And for those wondering about censorship, look up George Carlins classic "7 words you can't say on tv" for some info about how broadcast works in the US
I am watching you perform songs from This Land on a tv station called, All Arts/Austin City Limits & your music is absolutely amazing! I have to buy your cd! 😎😎😎😎
Gary Clark singing what they made him sing but at least more people got to hear it. But I like the version he does with the roots he crushed it that night
Totally fantastic. The naysayers in the comments here: fer gawd's sake. There IS an entire swath of this country who won't recognize his belonging. And there's nothing "divisive" about standing up to divisiveness.
I’m sad to see that the N-word was censored in the performance. It was absolutely appropriate in the context that Gary used it. It should hurt our hearts deeply when we hear it within this song. The n-word sadly is still used and if we don’t confront racism we will never have a peaceful nation.
He must love Jimi Hendrix. Great role model. Who wouldn’t want to emulate Jimi. He’s more serious than Jimi tho. Jimi was light, didn’t take much serious except music.
Ok , IM NOT GOOD WITH THE CENSORED VERSION...... I love Gary Clark Jr. Sooooo fucking much. I listen to him on repeat..... That fuckd up t shirt that Cheadle is wearing almost had us not watch Gary. BUT I watch all things Gary and his performance will blow that shirt off Don
That intro gets me every time. The chill starts down my spine and doesn't let up through the entire song.
I thought the guitar was about to burst into flames from so much passion and emotions in those riffs. Wonderful message and excellent guitar riffs.

All you kids pay attention. This is the full power of a master bluesman practicing his craft.

If it’s not cut, they won’t put on this high exposure show. And this NEEDS to be heard! Now, just go watch the full song.
Eu o amo desde a primeira vez em que o ouvi.
Gary manda muito bem no som
Ele e a guitarra sao como um só e amém. 🤘🏾

Wow, I had to have really stopped paying attention for an artist/musician like this to get by me. Top Notch.
Damn I love this song BIG TUNE!!!!
It was censored, but I still love ya Gary. ❤
Amazing again Gary! Damn excellence! And for those wondering about censorship, look up George Carlins classic "7 words you can't say on tv" for some info about how broadcast works in the US

I've watch this performance at least 50 x's Trust! I can't get enough of this guy. He's my youngest son Doppelgänger.
not quite the same with the censorship...still, GCJr. is THE shit,,,

I'm old and I like the song with the censored lyrics even more. Outstanding song - love the Hendrix vibe.
Good job man!
Gary Clark singing what they made him sing but at least more people got to hear it. But I like the version he does with the roots he crushed it that night

Search howard stern gary clark for uncensored version
amazing
Mr. Clark, Great Musik, is there ANYWAY You can get KINGFISH on SNL?!!!!
That's right
Hey the Stones changed 'Lets spend the night together ' to 'Lets spend some time together' If the Stones can bowlderize lyrics for TV Gary can
Wow! Censored?!?! The music lost part of its meaning!
It’s SNL. What did you think, they’d let him say “fuck you”?
This is guy is too good
I’m sad to see that the N-word was censored in the performance. It was absolutely appropriate in the context that Gary used it. It should hurt our hearts deeply when we hear it within this song. The n-word sadly is still used and if we don’t confront racism we will never have a peaceful nation.
No Joke.
Of course NBC would HAVE to feel they have to CENSOR...
They really made him clean up the chorus? Come on now.
I guess we can see that some folks are really salty over this song, huh? This song is hard as hell!
Heavy sheet!
This song is the Black Lives Matter anthem everyone should own. Best African American protest album since Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”!
running to thb Son
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wish he would have played the original version but then again could middle America handle it.
He is hottt!
Muito bom!
Hi
Censorship is unAmerican. Love GCJ
damn do you sound good
🍔They took our jerbs
It's interesting that he deletes the N word from the lyrics on SNL. That is one of the things that makes the song so powerful.
He had to, I’m sure he would rather have said it with the original emotion but can’t do things like that on tv
I'm torn - this performance is more passionate than the music video, but is censored.
PROTECT TRANS KIDS 💛
Why was war machine wearing that T-shirt? 🤔🧐
don cheadle says trans rights 😎✌🏻
this is the best performance on snl
Wow keep singing this song. Remind them where the hell you come from
He must love Jimi Hendrix.
Great role model. Who wouldn’t want to emulate Jimi. He’s more serious than Jimi tho. Jimi was light, didn’t take much serious except music.
Was that guitar solo improvised?
Funny thing is if you imagine a white supremist singing this song it would fit right in... Lets hope they dont make it their new Anthem ha !
You forgot some words on your lyrics mister Clark !!!
First!! GCJ The 🐐
Ok , IM NOT GOOD WITH THE CENSORED VERSION...... I love Gary Clark Jr. Sooooo fucking much. I listen to him on repeat.....
That fuckd up t shirt that Cheadle is wearing almost had us not watch Gary. BUT I watch all things Gary and his performance will blow that shirt off Don
WTF, this is not the Ed Sullivan Show and this isn't 1967
Is the crowd _dead?_
слишком толерантно для нас с первой же секнды
Why is the backup guitarist playing a flipped left-handed guitar??
Lack of resources? Preferred style?
How much did they pay Don to wear that shirt? Salute to Gary
