As someone who's masked AuDHD her whole life and also has other mental and physical health conditions, I've always felt ashamed of both recognizing my needs and asserting them for fear of upsetting or inconveniencing other people. Fighting to have your needs validated in a world that often still labels you lazy or troublesome for asking for accommodations is so hard. KB's storyline was handled so well and I hope that the next generation of kids watching this show grows up to learn and apply the lessons here better than we have in the past
And Fern is trying to be supportive to KB by saying there's nothing she, KB, can't do without realising that yes, there are things she can't do. It took plainspeaking honest Neel to get her to understand that.
Something I love: way back on Rebels, Dave Filoni avoided using X-Wings to keep them “special” in that world, saving them for one big “Empire of the Sun” moment later in the run. It’s really cool to see X-Wings return here in a very similar reference, especially now that they’re in an explicit Spielberg mode.
Phil Tippett’s a legend. Animated the Holichess game in Ep IV and invented go motion for the Taun Tauns in Ep V. Not to be “that guy”, but The Rancor was a 16” hand puppet for Ep VI.
I bet the hull works like a "get out of jail" card for tractor beams. As a last resort the ship could essentially shed its skin to escape, but at a hefty cost.

KB portayal of disabilities was great and felt real and wim getting his jedi knight moment saving KB was nice. Fern character growth was good and is very similar to many people in life showing its important to know other people struggles like neels. The onyx cinder looks so clean now❤
A ship molting into a better, shinier version of itself just as its crew molt into better versions of themselves. Gorgeous. I noticed Rennod's "the ship is armored" line was a bit weird but I never made the connection to the hull demolition button. The payoff is amazing. Not to mention the characterization that all the kids, especially KB, go through this episode.

The captain said he added armor plating. He wasn't kidding. Also those armor plates were probably needed considering the cannon we saw earlier thanks to Neals friend, which we know At Attin has on it. SM33 said they were there too so the Captain knew what kind of defenses At Attin has since all the planets are identical.
I can see how the outer shell could be multipurpose. Besides the added protection, it could also make the ship look less threatening allowing it to slip under the attention of the authorities. Not to mention if they got tractor beamed by a pursuing cruiser, they could jettison the shell to escape before the cruiser could re-target the beam.
"For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic"... this is why the Jedi order fell, because it deviated from its original purpose... to help people. Wim saving a life was as Jedi a thing as he could ever do. Such a whole some scene.

I was mulling over the accident KB mentioned, her symptoms and the occipital link Fern mentioned. I feel like what probably happened was she sustained some kind of blunt force trauma to the back of her head...maybe in a speeder bike accident racing with Fern?... it damaged both her occipital lobe and the cerebellum right beneath it, paralyzing here and probably almost blinding her. Both had to be replaced with what this is. The device likely serves a dual purpose of communicating motor control between her brain and spinal cord and also takes over the visual processing functions of the occipital lobe...probably why she needs the visor. I wonder what she sees when she has it up.
Hollywood doesn't have a great track record for nuanced disability representation, but KB, the actress who plays her, the writers, and directors are nailing this.

It's not stated outright, but based on how much of her head is taken up by her implants, I think the implication is that KB's accident involved a brain injury that left her quadriplegic, and her implants took over her motor functions.

I love this show and this episode was short but so damn sweet. ❤ Great character growth for both Fern and Wim and great representation of disability and being/feeling different. KB and Wim bonding was so sweet and KB being scared and vulnerable about not speaking up for herself because she thought Fern wouldn't be able to understand or handle it are very valid feelings. I can relate even if my disability is more inside of my brain (autistic). Wim's positivity and telling her that both him and Neel are her friends anyway was such a sweet moment. "Thanks, Jedi" and KB and Fern hugging it out was lovely too! I didn't expect to cry to this show, but here we are! 😭❤️ The Onyx Cinder is a fabulous ship and I need one! 😍 Let's race to At Attin! Who will get there first, pirates or the Skeleton Crew? Bryce Dallas Howard did an excellent episode! I wish it was longer tho and more episodes than only 8. I need at least 13 episodes or more. 🥺
Yeah guys this was such another amazing episode, The KB arc is something i really have been waiting for and it did not disappoint. and the performance by the actress was so well played. I just realized the name of the ship from the song that escaped to at attan is the ‘onyx cinder’ - which is the ship that’s revealed at the end, likely disguised bc it was so infamous. Their ship is legendary. Great writing and directing this episode
I think the Onyx Cinder had the opposite of an escape pod, it had an escape hull. An outer cocoon to protect it, potentially although packed with additional capabilities, that could be shed in times of need, e.g. to escape a tracktor beam. Plus, a ship as famous as the Cinder (in it's prime days) was probably quite well known, external hulls can hide it's features and you probably could modify the external hull quite easily.
There were agonized screams last episode when the acid pool was refilled. Some of the people there died, or were maimed and mutilated. But you see at the start of this that all the important ones (and Pokkit) are still fine.
Prediction: They return to home, the pirates follow, Neel uses the weapon he now knows about on the school. They think they are saved and then have to deal with the Supervisor.

6:54 - I honestly didn't notice that pirate taking the lightsaber off of Jod when I watched this episode before. It seems like such a weird directorial decision to me, considering what a quick and easy-to-miss throwaway sort of moment it is when compared to the whole "dramatically igniting the thing" scene that ended the previous episode. Until I noticed that here, I honestly thought that Jod must have hidden the lightsaber inside of SM-33 or something, figuring that there *must* be a reason that it wasn't referenced at all throughout the entire episode. XD Frankly, I'm surprised that this random background pirate even recognized it as a weapon, what with the Jedi having been damn near extinct for decades by this point in the timeline.
I build and collect Lego ships, many moc builds too. I cannot wait to build the Onyx Cinder variant shown here, as it emerged my mind lit up.... such a sweet ship, kinda reminds me of the Normandy SR2 which is my favorite ship ever !
Rennod, in his holographic recording, said “I have the ship CLAD in armor and ready, but my crew still doubts At Attin is real. I need all hands to seize the treasure. No one knows it is the last Old Republic Mint.” So the plating on the hull clearly was armor in preparation for storming At Attin, This must have been his last recording, or near last, before storming At Attin. I had to re-watch it to catch that detail about the armor. I missed it the first time around.
Did nobody listen to the Pirate Captain's hologram when he specifically stated that the ship was ARMORED UP and ready? All the reactors are missing that detail but it explains that there was additional armor added for the treasure hunt.
Of course... as soon as me and my boy finished building his new Onyx Cinder Lego that he got for Xmas then watched the latest episode it turns into a whole different ship! 🤷♂

Loved this episode and loved your reactions! I always enjoy seeing how much you appreciate how much goes into these movies qwith the stop motion comments and how much you guys know Star Wars ships. When I was watching the show at launch I was thinking "these guys are gonna LOVE this new Onyx Cinder" and you didn't dissapoint! My prediction is that Neel will find the canon on the top of their school on At Attin to help fight the pirates and also he's gonna get the girl that he likes or at least feel confident enough to ask her out. He took a ship and then up armored it! It makes sense that he would have a way to remove the armor! This could definitely help if caught by a gravity well somewhere out in space and allow the ship to lighten itself and be able to escape the gravity well! I don’t think the captain ever planned on having to escape a construction droids little brother! The scrap droid looks similar to the description of the construction droids on courascant in the Michael a stackpole x-wing rouge squadron books!
I saw a behind the scenes look and the trash crabs including the mother were all made using stop motion animation, I even said to my boys while watching it looks like stop motion I'm so glad they are using practical effects in this show more the any other show that's come out it makes the world feel more real without everything being cgi
They searched the Captain image.. Weequay...and someone discovered that the German actor who dubbed the Captain's holo speech, also is the one who does Hondo's voice in Germany
KB's storyline in this ep and the disability representation it provided was the thing that made me cry in this show. I am mentally disabled and also have a minor (compared to the mental stuff) physical disability. And I related to KB so much. Sometimes I to am afraid to tell others or even admit to myself I can't do certain things. I am afraid of being useless and unhelpful, of being left behind. And it results in my health hurting, sometimes significantly. I try hard to leave these habits behind, but that's hard. I felt for KB so much.
With this new ship looking like the Moldy Crow had a baby with the Mantis, I figured you would be enthusiastic about the revealed ship design underneath.

That's really the showrunners' (Ford & Watts) responsibility than Bryce Dallas's, but I hear you. Directors in TV series have a little less creative power than film directors to keep things consistent. That said, she has proven to be an excellent director that brings out the emotional beats of the characters.

What I love about the episode is that Wim didn't become a "Jedi" when he found the light saber, he became a Jedi when he saved someone's life.

Also, the ship seems to have been a "sleeper" It was a hotrod in disguise with all that disposable cladding that pops off.

6:54 - I honestly didn't notice that pirate taking the lightsaber off of Jod when I watched this episode before. It seems like such a weird directorial decision to me, considering what a quick and easy-to-miss throwaway sort of moment it is when compared to the whole "dramatically igniting the thing" scene that ended the previous episode. Until I noticed that here, I honestly thought that Jod must have hidden the lightsaber inside of SM-33 or something, figuring that there *must* be a reason that it wasn't referenced at all throughout the entire episode. XD Frankly, I'm surprised that this random background pirate even recognized it as a weapon, what with the Jedi having been damn near extinct for decades by this point in the timeline.
I build and collect Lego ships, many moc builds too. I cannot wait to build the Onyx Cinder variant shown here, as it emerged my mind lit up.... such a sweet ship, kinda reminds me of the Normandy SR2 which is my favorite ship ever !
Rennod, in his holographic recording, said “I have the ship CLAD in armor and ready, but my crew still doubts At Attin is real. I need all hands to seize the treasure. No one knows it is the last Old Republic Mint.” So the plating on the hull clearly was armor in preparation for storming At Attin, This must have been his last recording, or near last, before storming At Attin. I had to re-watch it to catch that detail about the armor. I missed it the first time around.
The stop gap Crab caused so many injuries to the crew behind the scenes they nicknamed it Tett' Niss or something like that

Did nobody listen to the Pirate Captain's hologram when he specifically stated that the ship was ARMORED UP and ready? All the reactors are missing that detail but it explains that there was additional armor added for the treasure hunt.
Of course... as soon as me and my boy finished building his new Onyx Cinder Lego that he got for Xmas then watched the latest episode it turns into a whole different ship! 🤷♂
Jod pulled a mind trick to break the kids out of jail. I think he’s been attempting to pull off mind tricks ever since. I think he pulled one on the pirate gang.
Loved this episode and loved your reactions! I always enjoy seeing how much you appreciate how much goes into these movies qwith the stop motion comments and how much you guys know Star Wars ships. When I was watching the show at launch I was thinking "these guys are gonna LOVE this new Onyx Cinder" and you didn't dissapoint! My prediction is that Neel will find the canon on the top of their school on At Attin to help fight the pirates and also he's gonna get the girl that he likes or at least feel confident enough to ask her out. Loving this show. 52 years old OG Star Wars fan love your channel. Keep up the great work best friends!

He took a ship and then up armored it! It makes sense that he would have a way to remove the armor! This could definitely help if caught by a gravity well somewhere out in space and allow the ship to lighten itself and be able to escape the gravity well! I don’t think the captain ever planned on having to escape a construction droids little brother! The scrap droid looks similar to the description of the construction droids on courascant in the Michael a stackpole x-wing rouge squadron books!

The new Onyx Cinder is now my favorite Star Wars ship designs.
I saw a behind the scenes look and the trash crabs including the mother were all made using stop motion animation, I even said to my boys while watching it looks like stop motion I'm so glad they are using practical effects in this show more the any other show that's come out it makes the world feel more real without everything being cgi
They searched the Captain image.. Weequay...and someone discovered that the German actor who dubbed the Captain's holo speech, also is the one who does Hondo's voice in Germany

KB's storyline in this ep and the disability representation it provided was the thing that made me cry in this show. I am mentally disabled and also have a minor (compared to the mental stuff) physical disability. And I related to KB so much. Sometimes I to am afraid to tell others or even admit to myself I can't do certain things. I am afraid of being useless and unhelpful, of being left behind. And it results in my health hurting, sometimes significantly. I try hard to leave these habits behind, but that's hard. I felt for KB so much.

That's really the showrunners' (Ford & Watts) responsibility than Bryce Dallas's, but I hear you. Directors in TV series have a little less creative power than film directors to keep things consistent.
That said, she has proven to be an excellent director that brings out the emotional beats of the characters.
