One of the most brilliant satirical sketches KITH did--which they could not do today--was when Scott Thompson played a black kid brought home by his proto-S.J.W. white girlfriend to meet her parents. The parents were kind and welcoming, but the girlfriend acted like they were racist jerks, and it became clear she was only dating a black guy because she thought it would provoke them. It was such a keen flensing of callow self-righteousness, virtue-signaling, and narcissism. Ahead of its time...and, sadly, still germane today...
Oddly prophetic
The nude model art class is my personal favorite, they predicted the future 100% with those sketches
I remember that sketch...and I remember how it played out in real life with many white girlfriends in my past...

Damn homie you got some writing skills
@randomadmin I find it hilarious that people believe that virtue signalling is some new phenomenon. It's been popular on college campuses since the 1960's at very least. The only thing new is that we now call these people SJWs. "You won't believe it was from 1993." What you mean is you personally didn't know that this was also a topic back in 1993.
I really liked the skit where they were fur trappers, hunting businessmen for their suits!!!
Oh yeah, hecubus is evil!!!
ALOUETTE, GENTIL ALOUETTE
The Voyageurs skit made me pee py pants when i was a kid. Fuckin Quebec lmao
if it werent for kids in the hall i probably wouldnt have my love for comedy, and scott thompson was my first exposure to gay people and with that i thank scott as well for showing they were just regular people like everyone else
Yeah, they put their Daisy Dukes on one leg at a time.
Love who you love, that's what I say. Both the heart and the genitals want what they want.
I'm 44 now but I figured out in my early teens when the use of the word f*g was really commonplace for kids, that I love KITH and I love Buddy Cole and what would Buddy do if he heard or saw me acting that way? I grew up in a really conservative Christian house so I'm so thankful for my early exposure to KITH and Buddy and all of the cross dressing. Really helped me from turning into a truly awful person.
@@leftofpunk Hear hear! He was my first known exposure to an openly gay man as well, and though i didn't realize it at the time, he did a lot to de-program me from the ingrained Conservative homophobia i grew up with in the '80s and '90s. i think he's a large part of the reason I'm a queer person and not just a bisexual woman.
Didn’t you hear? Scott’s not gay anymore.
Kids in the Hall was the best...
Paul Berg I went to their reunion tour about four years ago - brought my brother since he introduced me to them. Scott’s the only one who didn’t age pretty hard :) I mean, love to all of them, we all age, but Scott is the best and made the show.
Head crusher
Buddy was a genius character. Yes, he presents in that "stereotype", but it works when you see that his ideas are kind, strong, smart and brave. Thankyou Scott for that amazing character.
This is one of the best characters to come out of KITH, at no point of watching the character does any of his preferences factor into your impression of or respect for the character. People in the community - especially younger people - could benefit immensely from taking Buddy as a net positive.
And the delivery was a perfect trojan horse. On the surface, Buddy validated straight stereotypes, which lulled straight audiences into thinking that they got the joke. Then Buddy took a deep dive into gay culture to show some latent closeted gays the light. As a kid, it was eye-opening to get a glimpse into gay culture.
Scott himself used the term Archetype in a different interview and I think that fits better. The fact is it was based on a real person. There are effeminate, flamboyant men and Buddy Cole has never ever been a mockery of them. No matter what trauma he endured he never was the punchline. He was always empowered. And there was never a point at which queer hate for Buddy wasn't based in misogyny. Hopefully younger queer generation will stop seeing being effeminate as inferior, and inherently offensive.
back in the day, we claimed the F-word, it was endearing.
I attribute my entire sense of humor to Kids in the Hall. It was the first thing I loved and my parents hated. They killed all my programmed prejudice.
I guess you could say you were TV 'programmed' .

aaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnd Satan!
Went to see Scott's live show in Calgary, he was amazing. He is such an underrated artist. Brutally honest about himself.
I'm pretty fuckin sad I missed it.
Cyclical. Skinny jeans come back every 20 years. Next is the mullet. Thanks Theo Von.
Mate down under, that shit never stopped, theres a couple of kids in a band the chats, check out the lead singers mullet classic dont give a fuck😉
@@colinmunro7337 That's what I have always loved about Aussies!
Aussies and the 80s brought it back. Shit is cyclical because most people are sheep. Theo Vaughn?!?!? 😂 Nobody knows who he is outside of this little group of comics. You’re giving him waaay too much credit or blame. Not sure which. 🤷🏼♂️😂
All the kids at my school have mullets now….
I still observe Bellini Day.
I poked him with a stick once.
Right on!
Buddy Cole is one of my favorite characters of all time. Thank you Scott!
scott thompson delivered the funniest line i ever heard on KITH. it was sketch wear these office ladies were complaining they were tired, and the day was dragging on yada yada, then a girl comes in and lets them know she switched the coffee to decaf, in which scott thompson's character yells "BITCH, ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!" and throws her coffee cup against the wall. it was so over the top and delivered absolutely perfectly. thank you scott.
Cathy with a C and Kathy with a K. The girl might have been Mark McKinney as Tanya (TAN-ya, not Tahn-ya), the frequent Temp at A.T. & Love.
I could be misremembering, but I think it's "BITCH ARE YOU FOR REAL!?"
It was Bitch are you for real and it was Dave Foley as the female supervisor. Those guys were my baby sitters, I watched that show nonstop growing up ❤️
2005 Toronto Bloor subway station, Scott asked me for a smoke and I happily gave him one. We talked for 10 mins and he then asked me if I wanted to get a drink at his place. I read between the lines and politely told him "thanks, but I don't play for your team" he laughed, we hugged and parted ways.
Amazing human being.
Love ya Scott!
Scott is unbelievably talented. I always thought it was a shame he wasn't used to his potential after KITH. I've spotted him on a few shows as a tertiary character but he's so much more versatile than the parts they give him.
He was fantastic in the Larry Sanders Show. He was a second string secondary character, but the character was complete, believable & human.
He was a tertiary character on Hannibal - well, more secondary - but I thought it was an interesting departure for a comedian with his various personas to play an investigator of horrifying crimes. And still be funny in the role.
What a great show, talkin shit about real stuff, after all isn't that what comedy is all about?
Comedians are where you go for real talk and perspective on any society. They have no interest in bullshitting or being fake.
real stuff, slick stuff, neat stuff.
Meanwhile all the late night shows just does 'orange man bad' jokes
@@Pariahmary Those who can't do comedy, do talk shows
Nice to see Kristi P fangirling :) Scott has had an interesting life
My older brother and his girlfriend who was into punk rock and metal introduced me to Kids in The Hall when I was a little kid back in the early 90s. It was my favorite, still is. Scott is a legend!
Man I loved Kids in the Hall! This video just randomly came up in my feed. Instant sub!
Same here, and same here...and same here.
“There’s no way a straight man could say what I say”
Bill Burr: “SIT DOWN AND TAKE YOUR TALKIN’-TO LIKE THE REST OF US”
I read that in his raspy angry dad voice too 🤣🤣
Scott impresses me when he talks so frankly about his experience with HIV/AIDS. Even in the 80s/90s where we spoke about hard truths, Scott just had such a frankness and beauty and challenging thoughts and he really came so close to very dangerous situations.
Oh, hey look, it's a legend discussing his legendary character. Hey, Scott, buddy.
a KITH reunion season could definitely get me to turn a television on again. Will keep an eye open for any new special Scott has coming out. Break-a-leg Buddy
There's a new KITH movie!!!! 2022
Scott Thompson is a legend!! fucking loved Kids in the Hall!
Don't we all need a Buddy Cole in our lives? Scott Thompson's such a classy guy.
I wish Scott Thompson well. He is a Canadian National Treasure.
"Sausages! Sausages!!!"
"How come you didn't bring me no sausages? When are ya gonna get the sausages?!?! I LOVE sausages, sausages are GOOD....we are all SAUSAGES!"
One of my favorite of Scott's characters.
hot dogs for tea boys lol
That's one of my favorite short films of all time but I forgot all about it until I read this comment.
That entire sketch is one of my favorites. It took up almost half the episode and was shot like an old school movie.
I was about nine or 10 when that character came about. I found it so strange and a little creepy but he grew on me and looking back on it probably had a huge effect on why I’m not homophobic like literally EVERYONE else I grew up with. Scott is an originator. Such a brave dude! Mad respect! 💯
There’s no such thing as “Homophobic.”
@@continentalaquatics2725 Yeah but in casual speech people just use it to mean general anti-gay sentiment. You know that, stop pretending to be dumber than you are. I'm sure you're plenty dumb already without needing to exaggerate it.
One thing I cant stand about some of these podcasts is when the hosts just wont stop kissing the guest's ass. I mean, I love Scott Thompson too, but I don't tune into shows like this just to listen to someone flattering him for 10 minutes. Ask him questions, let him speak, engage him in interesting conversation. Thats all the host needs to do. Kissing his ass is not on that list.
The skit where the Chicken Lady and bearded woman went to the strip club-and Scott came out as the male exotic dancer 'Chicken Man' was legendary..and every bit as funny as when I seen it as a kid
If you don't like Scott Thompson or The Kids In The Hall, you have no sense of humor!
I’m in Gen X heaven 😂 Goddamn KITH was comedy gold, absurdism and all.
Scott Thompson was always frickin awesome. Since I was a kid and used to watch Kids In The Hall in the early 90s 👍🏼
Scott as Queen Elizebith II, "Hello Royal subjects."
You're welcome.
I loved when Scott brought back Buddy Cole with Stephen Colbert all those years ago. I haven't heard much from him recently but anytime I see him I think he's hilarious. IMO the absolute funniest gay person in the world.
Time for a Kids in the Hall binge watch
Even though I hate buying DVDs in the age of 4k, I bought the entire thing and man that box set brought back good memories when I binged it last year. My favorite was "the monkies" sketch. There was probably around 100 things that would have got them kicked off the air today.
I never imagined Buddy Cole would be the voice of reason that we needed in 2023 but here we are. Scott looks amazing!!!
Just realized this was made in 2019. They hadn’t seen anything yet.
being woke isnt the problem. and youll never solve the problems being ignorant. its your responsibility to be aware. dont take pride in your ignorance and or apathy. and dont think it cant change.
Scott is a real genius. Gay characters now are often weak, but his were always tough as nails! My favorite is the guy who beats up everyone who keeps calling him slurs, even kids!
"They already know I'm gay...what happens when they find out I'm Canadian?!" LOL. I'm straight and I thought he was hysterical.
Kids in the hall was literally my favorite show as a kid. I crush you.

Lol why did they show her drinking the water?
His former boss, Hank Kingsley, was the wokest man alive.
Hey now!
Wait, Scott Thompson is gay?!?!
he's a very dedicated method actor.
Maltfalc fucking top notch 😂
You remember the skit where he's the one who's "not gay anymore"?
One of the best sketches I've ever seen... is when Scott Thompson shows up to a dinner party. He's seated right next to a guy in a wheelchair. The second he sits down; he turns his whole body to the right and asks, "So..... how'd you get in the wheelchair?"
Smith & Smith, 4 on the floor and Kids in the Hall opened my eyes to Canadian comedy as a young kid. Huge respect!
Sausages!
We are sausages!
Scott is FAB! And Buddy is an icon - so glad he can revive Buddy and transition to current events
I love this segment and I love Scott Thompson and his insightful honesty. I like that he knows how ugly extremeism is, for anybody, and is not afraid to say it. Excellent interview!

After watching him since I was I kid I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Thompson after one of the KITH live shows and I can honestly say I was not disappointed. He was so genuinely funny, kind and grateful for his fans. A truly beautiful human being.
Kids In The Hall is the funniest sketch show ever. I remember first seeing the reruns back in the 90s on Comedy Central as a kid. The sketches were so transgressive, weird, bizarre, goofy, hilarious and fucking brilliant. Scott Thompson is a real OG and I fucking love him
Buddy Cole is timeless and always necessary. They say everyone has an angel and a demon....well everyone needs that third voice guiding them...the sensible voice..the Buddy Cole
Love Scott Thompson and the Kids in the Hall. Gifts to the world!
Very interesting to find out that Buddy was based on a real person and that Mr Belini was friends with Scott before KitH :)

So nice to see Scott! Loved this! So smart and it’s so easy to see what a good person he is.
Thompson is like 60 years old here. He was the oldest member of KITH and he has aged better than all of them, except Bruce McCulloch, who has also aged well.
Scott is easily one of my favorite human beings ever. So funny and warm and genuine and sharp as hell. Always loved Buddy and knew people just like that.
So happy that Kids in the hall is returning!
STRIKE 2!!
...That had too much attitude...
Despite the clickbait title, this is a pretty enjoyable exchange. It's so refreshing to hear people speak frankly and reasonably at the same time.
Scott is a fucking badass.
Funny, intriguing, talented, smart and just plain awesome. Christina and Tom, you guys also kick fucking ass

Oh Dr Cooper. Thankyou for the marvelous COMA!!!!
Might be 3 years later, but I forgot about the Buddy Cole character. I'm used to seeing records by a different organ player from the 50s named Buddy Cole!
I grew up watching kids in the Hall me and my brother quote back and forth to each other Scott was one of my favorites I'm so happy they're getting some recognition for once brain candy was a masterpiece
I didn't realize how much weight Tom lost until watching this clip 3 years later. Chubby Tom!
If you have more free speech and more freedom then you're not marginalized to begin with - you're in fact PRIVILEGED
Also, if people are going out of their way to not offend you with unpleasant truths or opinions, you're standing in a higher position in their eyes (regarding straight men not being as blunt with women).

Scott Thompson is fucking brilliant comedically. And while the entire cast was hilarious and they had an incredible dynamic. Scott Thompson was why I watched Kids In The Hall.
Upright Citizens Brigade made me die laughing back in the day also
Buddy Cole sounds like Nelson Sullivan. Not saying it's the same guy but he was an amazing character.
❤❤❤ Scott!!!!!
❤❤❤ KITH!!!!!
Buddy is. You deal w it…..it’s on you…..unless you wanna Buddy on top!!!! Lolz
Buddy is sincerely broken but will never quit or be shamed!!!!!
When Scott hit the scene he was so fresh. He had such a fresh energy. Still does. That’s his hook. He’s smart and he’s funny and he’s real.

Question: When the podcast was over and Scott Thompson and Tom Seguara left...was Christina P. still just sitting there talking to herself?
I only got through 30 seconds of this podcast, she would simply talk over everyone. Unlistenable.
what a legend
seems like such a class act, one of the funniest Canadians ever
...and some of the funniest people have been Canadian, so that's high praise.
the sjw types love to throw around terms like trailblazers.. this guy is that.
Seems like what he's really doing is just using his identity as a gay man as a shield against potential criticism for his reactionary viewpoints.
I mean, yeah, they pretty much said that in the interview. Women and gay men can get away with saying a lot more. But it's also an act and a character. They aren't necessarily his viewpoints. That's how comedy works.
I started watching KITH at age 11/12. In high school I was the (at the time) rare person who was very pro-gay rights and marriage equality and was very vocal about it, even doing a project for a class on legalizing gay marriage. I think a lot of that was Scott, and "Buddy." It was so revolutionary, when this was something nobody was really talking about, to have someone being so *out.*
he was my favorite from Kids in the hall. the 80's & 90's move for people to stop being offensive was pushed by establishment republicans though, now its being pushed by democrats. i always viewed the democrats as the party of free speech, & free expression, but those days are LONG gone. im never going to conform, i just dont care, but i still hope it stops for those who do cares , sake.
Buddy Cole is needed more than ever right now ( Thanks Scott ) I broke my leg senior year in high school o I had to sit out Gym. This was in the late 70s when , in my school suspected gay boys were not allowed to participate they had to sit on the bleachers. Although I’m straight I’ll never forget how entertaining and funny those guys were. Sadly in the 80s AIDS took their lives one by one. Buddy Cole brought them back in a small way Thanks again
This was THREE YEARS AGO?? Is the Buddy Cole show recorded and available somewhere?
What about the straight white males who grew up with Kids in the Hall, learning to understand and embrace Scott Thompson. Or being influenced by Kurt Cobain saying if you're sexist and homophobic don't come to our shows. They aren't all full of shit/pathetic like is being said here. There's a whole generation of white males that learned to feel and understand, and be open to a variety of different types of people and experiences and nobody is talking about, or giving them any credit. The 2000's were a smear of bullshit over alot of progress that was made in the 90's.
Oh man!! Love this dude!! So funny!! Christina is so thrilled to be talking to him!! One of the best episodes!!
When I was a young, weird teenager KITH always stood out w/ me & my friends. We each had a favorite kid. Scott was mine. Tho Bruce was a close 2nd.
He's right when he says intent shows through. Comedy, even very "edgy" comedy is funny when it's done with the intent of finding the funny in a situation. But...if the bit is coming from real hate or disdain for the subject or subject matter, that will shine through. That's why most political humor these days falls very flat.
We partied with Scott in Merrylville waaay back when... still have the pic on our wall! And then we sent him a picture of our family! Autographed!
Sweet man.
The Redhead Gay. I love that character. Scott Thompson rules.
He was pushing boundaries early on before he knew how much he was shouting the truth.
