This may be "the dumb thing" you do but it brings joy and levity to people when there's a lot of messed up stuff going on on the world. That's important. And keep the song, it's brilliant.
That was a really touching and thoughtful opener, thoughts to Josh's friends and family. Your content is so appreciated and bloody pulling me out of my own despair via many ridiculous laughs which all of us here can attest to I'm sure! Stay safe and stay (marginally) sane guys.
If you've listened to these enough you can tell something is off right away. Then you hear the subject and pick up on the waiver in his voice. It got me too.
Firstly, R.I.P Josh. May his soul Rest In Peace. And secondly, I rather enjoy this "dumb thing" that you guys record on a weekly basis. It always brightens up my day and makes it a great start to the week. So yeah, thank you, ya Idjits!
What a lovely way to honour Josh, it’s so clear you care so much for your listeners and it’s what makes you guys the absolute best - chin up everyone, it will get better
If you haven't been on the Great Mates group it is the chillest, most supportive, discussion group on the internet. The intro to this episode, and the compassion inherent to it, are huge part of why this is my favorite podcast. They are funny as hell, and genuinely seem like lovely dudes that want to put something decent into world. Love everything about this.
Thank you for that beautiful opening guys. R.I.P. Josh. It’s tough out there right now but this podcast (that is dumb) brings a lot of joy to a lot of people.
RIP Joshua. The world is on fire and idk what's gonna happen next. If you're reading this I love you and hope you and yours get through this with no problem.
Love you guys. I watch weekly and love your videos for when I want fun entertainment. Always funny and genuine. Keep it up because what you do does bring happiness and entertainment to many. All the way from Detroit, MI USA.
And people here in the US are complaining that they can't go to the bar, beach, or what ever. My wife is immunocompromised and I can't imagine losing her. R.I.P Josh, you were taken to soon. My heart goes out to his family as well. Stay home people, you aren't just making the choice for you, your making it for people like Josh and my wife too.
RIP, mate. I doubt y’all read this but I just wanted to say thank you for hosting such a great wholesome community. I know you might feel it’s a silly thing to do, but I can attest it somehow provides a lot of constant comfort, especially in troubling times like this. Big hugs to you guys and the community in general.
You bloody muppets, Indy already knows how to fly. He flew a biplane when escaping the blimp in The Last Crusade. And just like real life he also crashed it trying to land, hitting a barn. And Rest In Peace, Josh. You guys are awesome, keep doing what you do, we appreciate it, even when you're wrong (which seems to be often!). Cheers!
Ridley Scott's into to the extended cut of Gladiator was quite telling. “What you are about to see, if you press play, is the extended version of Gladiator. This is not the director’s cut. The director’s cut is the length that went out in theaters. This has a lot of scenes in it that were removed during the editing process and might be worth seeing.”
This 'dumb thing' has kept me sane throughout this difficult time. You are both spreading joy and humour at a time it is sorely needed. Keep that in mind that you've had such a positive impact on people like Josh and their families. RIP
Never change the intro. It's a hug from my 16 year old brain. As a guy older than y'all and a fan since Bandit shout out nearly a decade ago (more?) Keep being you. You really do help us smile. Esp sweet James's tree hugging teacher aBROAD moments. Congrats be well and rigs up.
R.I.P. Josh, it sucks so fuckin much, the state of the world. I want to take a moment to thank James and Maso for taking the time at the beginning to give a heartfelt piece about Josh, you 2 are genuinely good humans, and thats why i love your podcast so much. Well.. that, and i HAVE to keep tuning in to find out the answer to the age old question, is it dune or dune? Hmmm.. i tune in... is it tune, or tune?? OH MY GOD.....
It's a good thing I have no editing skills because I could totally see myself re-editing any movie I can get my hands on in weird and specific ways to make them better to no one but me.
For people who don't get the part about the "big miniatures", picture making a miniature model of a house or castle but instead of so small that it would fit on a table it's like half or quarter of a house. So still a small version of the real thing but quite big for a human (like say the size of a big room, a car etc.). It's good for things like flying a camera around and through it, being able to put more detail into it etc.
Sincerest condolences to Josh. I don't really know him but by all accounts he appeared to be a damn good dude and my heart goes out to his friends and family. I hope they can recuperate the best they can. Especially in these current events we're living through, it's really just the absolute last thing that needed to happen.
I'm so late but I'm incredibly sorry to hear about Josh. I can't imagine having to deal with losing someone because it's too "invonvenient" for some people to get vaccinated or wear a damn mask.. thoughts and lots of love to his friends and family.
I've only seen the full road show director's cut of Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, with prologue and interlude music just like the old classics such as Ben Hur. Easily one of the best films I have ever seen
Hey guy's, the world is in absolute chaos but you guys bring something fun and a slimmer of brightness to it. Your good people, keep doing what your doing, R.I.P Josh.
I got his from google. "Any knight can, in fact, make another knight. ... Knighthood is a symbol of status, and men love to hold themselves above others in any way they can. But yes. According to the rules of knighthood, Jaime was well within his rights to knight Brienne." And a special message of condolance to Josh's family. I'm sorry for your loss, he sounded, from James' beautiful and emotional word for him, to be an amazing person who loved his family very much.
Sorry to hear about Josh. I love the theme, but change is also fine and why not? Do whatever you feel is necessary and you will have my full support :) Maybe a listener contributed theme? :)
Love the podcast guys, have been steadily introducing my gf during lockdown and she's appreciated a few references in particular - Mr Bean from this episode raised a smile. Keep up the good work.
Oh damn, this is very sad. Yeah it would have been weird to put the song at the start. Please don't ever change the song though, its part of the spirit of this place.
Sorry for your loss. Sounds like he was a great man. I hope he rests in peace and that his family stays well. Same for you guys. And I'll absolutely pout about it if you get rid of that song by the way. Love you guys.
A great directors cut is Fuqua’s for King Arthur. It turns a 5 out of ten movie into a solid 7.5 by adding lots of context instead of just jumping from set piece to set piece
Shazam 2 idea: Black Adam punches Supes out into space in Act 2 and he isn't seen again until the after credits scene. Superman wakes up floating in the middle of an alien solar system, and comedically remarks "where am i" before the War World rises from behind him, cloaking him in shadow, teasing a Superman vs Mongul movie.
I really like the hateful eight. It's a slow film but that's what I like. Probably why I love red dead 2 as well. Slow relaxing style where its just charismatic characters talking. For me I find it very good
Most Extended Cuts are fascinating the first time, but on subsequent viewings it becomes clear why they cut the scenes out to begin with. My favorite movie ever The Good The Bad And The Ugly got an extra 26 minutes put back in, fascinating to see, but now this bloated version is the only one readily available anymore and ruins the pacing of an otherwise perfect film.
1:32:45 If I could erase a movie from my mind? Instant Answer: Highlander 2! We loved the first one so much and the second one was both terrible and retconned the first one in terrible ways. Also, no Queen on the soundtrack. Edit: I did not expect you to erase GOOD movies. Loved the idea of erasing Memento. In this case, I would erase "Groundhog's Day."
i always watch the directors cut / extended cut. since the lotr trilogy so much was cut that was really interesting, so now i always try to get the version with the biggest run time to get the most of it, and usually this also explores more so we get the better experience
I went to a screening of the extended cut of Kingdom Of Heaven with Ridley Scott where he did a Q&A afterwards, he basically said that it got unfairly planned because of the failures other historical epics released around the same period. He was pretty clear he was talking about Troy and Alexander, both of which he thought were garbage.
I'd erase the first Matrix movie, but with the very specific caveat of getting to see it again for the first time in theatres in 1999. I remember how mind bottled I was walking out of the movies and that's a bar that I don't think has been hit since.
There's something about the way that James is so unprepared to talk about something like this that makes it hit so hard. It just feels so honest and real. You keep up the good work boys.
Rest in peace, Josh. I wish his family well in an already difficult time. Now to poorly segue into my comment: if you erased a movie you disliked from your memory, you could watch it again with a new perspective or without whatever judgments you may have had from before and find you really enjoy it. I tried watching Juno when it came out, I did not like it and never went back. Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 I also watched as a kid and saw many times but never appreciated it the way everyone else does. If I saw these with fresh eyes now, I’d probably have a much greater appreciation and understanding of why they are so highly regarded. Might just go back and check them out again anyway
This may be "the dumb thing" you do but it brings joy and levity to people when there's a lot of messed up stuff going on on the world. That's important.

I shared this podcast with my girlfriend, she said "how come that one guy doesn't know what's going on?" I don't know which one she was talking about.
She could have been talking about you to herself /s
😂, this perfectly encapsulate the weekly planet

Oh man Josh is gone? I remember interacting with him on the G8M8s page. God Bless his family.
"A song people don't like" excuse me? I love it!
More seriously, though, thank you for being serious for a serious topic. Stay well, mates.

His damn voice, never heard him like that. A real sad situation

The emotion in James’ voice out of the gate got me. Sending my love from the US, fellows. We can persevere.

Y'alls accent is comforting. It might be the reason I listen.
The extended cut of the death of Sauruman also makes it clear how the heroes get the Palantir, without it that makes no sense, it just 'appears'.
