This the clearest tutorial video I have watched and answered all of my questions. I have struggled with understanding how the G3000 functions work and you made it look like childs play. Thank you for taking the time to make this excellent video. I am sure it will benefit many like me.
Great tutorial! I particularly appreciate the two areas you help me understand: 1) why sometimes there is a gap in the flight plan and how to fix it; and 2) why sometimes the plane does nothing after pressing the NAV button. Through trial and error, I kind of figured out that NAV would activate more often if I flew in a direction that was similar to the course in the flight plan. Your explanation, which is flying in a direction to intercept the course in the FP, makes engaging NAV fool proof!
Great vid. There is a way to speed up the Altitude selection. Click and hold the knurled edge of the knob on the left to increase or the right to reduce. Then, still holding the mouse button down SLOWLY drag the pointer horizontally left to add height or right to reduce. Sounds complicated or even counter-intuitive because the slower you drag, the quicker the rate of change, but it soon feels natural.
Thank you so much for sharing this, and all the other, information with us. It greatly help us to take more advantage of the FlightSim. I really appreciate it 👍🏼
Amazing tutorial thank you. I got used to the ease of navigating and autopilot flying with the g1000 that I didn’t realize the quirks of using the g3000 nav button. Thanks!
Thank you for this! Sub'd & liked. I've been away from MSFS since they apparently upgraded the G3000 and I was sorta lost trying to get back up to speed with it and the TBM. I also immediately noticed the change you brought up of where hitting NAV on the AP from HDG doesn't automatically just push the plane onto the flight path until you intersect it. Great stuff! Will come back to watch you other vids.
great video! very informative, ty! not sure if anyone suggested anything for the altitude selector speed, but i find it's faster to just hold down the keybind for alt up or down, rather than mouse wheel or just clicking and holding on the dial in the cockpit. i don't know of a way to go by 1000s either, but i find the keybind the next best option. i think it's ctrl+ page up/down by default, but i may have mapped that... not sure
Thank you for reply hope to one day talk to you, I'm in the airline industry, I am a Maintenance Controller on the 757 fleet, maybe we can share some of our knowledge, take care.

I've found that to accelerate the input to a rotary knob, click on the knob, hold the right mouse button down and slew across the panel to the left or right. Right increases. Left decreases.
Good video! I have a couple of questions. 1) Is the TBM930 considered a Jet? I say no. The reason I ask is that SIMBRIEF will always give you commercial routes flown by airlines. When you look at the SIDS and STARS they frequently (more than not) are restricted to Turbofan aircraft. That is reinforced by speed restrictions of 280 Knots on some STARS that the TBM930 can never achieve in real life. So, if we want to be as realistic as possible, we need to choose our STARS and SIDS carefully. Most RNAV routes are for airliners and most nonrestricted STARS and SIDS are based on VOR waypoints. In real life I'm not sure how TBM930 pilots treat these issues. 2) If I set up a VOR to VOR route from point A to Point B and want to set VNAV altitudes for each waypoint on the route, I almost always get an X across my altitude. Or if I enter a SID and then want to add a cruise altitude to the next waypoint afterwards or perhaps amend the altitude to the last waypoint in the sid, I often get an X through the altitude as well. I thought it meant that it is not an achievable altitude, but I don't think that is case. I tried to enter below 2K, 3K, 4K progressively upon departure to to keep me under the class b shelf. Then as I clear the class B, I tried to set an altitudes of 10K and 10K at waypoints many miles out that should have been easily achievable but I got X through the altitudes I entered. Any suggestions as to why I can't enter altitudes without getting X'd out? Also, will the G3000 fly an ascending VNAV profile using a given Flight Level Change (FLC) airspeed? If so, how do you set that up?
For your first question, I can tell you that on VATSIM you won’t have any issues flying any SID or STAR that you file for, I’ve done it frequently. For your second question, my guess is that it won’t do an ascending profile, but I’m not certain. Sorry!
@@FlightSimSchool I figured it out and you are correct, no VNAV on ascent. The only I can figure out to handle it is to put your cruise altitude in the first waypoint or "the" first waypoint that you want to put an altitude into. Then each subsequent altitude you enter, must be lower than that initial altitude or you will get an X through the value indicating it isn't possible. I don't know if that's how it works in real life or not, probably so, but for sure in the similator, you can never enter a higher altitude than the first alititude entered in the flight plan. I do think the airline FMS work with ascending VNAV but clearly the G3000 and G1000 do not.
Excellent tutorial. I thought MSFS was broken! Thank you so much. But I still can't get the FMS intercept to work. My display shows "FMS TERM", which I presume indicates some mode that is preventing FMS grabbing control but I can't figure out what it is.
I had one in the past but I found it a bit expensive and I’m not flying on VATSIM enough to validate the cost. MSFS do a decent job of updating the AIRAC of late, so you shouldn’t have trouble with the TBM if you’re planning on flying on VATSIM without navigraph
I found that if I use the world map to set the flight plan it shows up in the PFD pointing in the opposite direction even though it’s correct in the virtual map. Other weird stuff like a SUSP notification. Same as in the NXi ! Works ok if I load the flight plan in the cockpit though.
@@FlightSimSchool thanks for the quick reply. World map flight plans used to work quite well. Oh well, will enjoy pushing all the buttons in the cockpit. Happy flying!!
I like the 930 in MSFS. One thing I find quite annoying though is how the switches on the overhead panel are nearly impossible to see when flying at night. Many times hard to see also in daylight. Can't imagine this is what the switches look like in the real aircraft and seems like a very easy thing for Asobo to address but been like this since release so I'm not holding my breath while waiting for the issue to be fixed.
Excellent! My only criticism would be that you talk so fast that I will probably have to watch the video several times while pausing frequently to absorb the information being given.
Great tutorial, thanks.. One question, Is there really any need to create the fp manually via the MFD. If I'm creating a fp in Simbrief, then why not just load it via the world map ?
That’s a good point, Mike. What I meant was to not let the world map automatically select your route, because that seems to generate some weird routes sometimes when it loads into the g3000
So, i learn something today, it is the first time i manage to be able to use vnav, and ils on this aircraft, it work correctly but not at 100%, it’s start to descent from cruise altitude, i have intercept the loc1 for ils landing, but after i press the approach button, plane line up himself with runway, but it has stop descent automatically, so the first desc, from FL150 to 6.000ft was ok, then he was suppsed to hit next waypoint after apr button at 4.000ft then descent again for the next one at 2.500 and so on, instead, one the airplane has reach first 6.000ft target it stop descent, and keep 6.000ft for next waypoint too, so i have to disconnect vnav and use vs to let the plane go down at 4.000ft, any suggestion why is this happen, what i have made wrong? I follow video step by step, i repeat that i have succesfully hit loc1 and airplane succesfully lined up with runway, but it stop to descent and he kept 6.000ft for whole time
Mark, do you use ATC during IFR flights? I tried following your guide from this video but for some reason the flight levels from my flight plan did not sync with ATC. When I enabled VNAV and commenced the descent at the TOD point, ATC instructed me that I was below my assigned altitude and needed to climb back up. Is there a way to sync the flight plan flight levels with ATC or is it best to fly without ATC?
Hi Julian, I don't really use the built-in ATC, it's kinda useless and very basic. I'll fly some flights on VATSIM but for the most part I'll make the ATC callouts out loud to myself rather than use the clunky menus.
By removing MANSEQ, we’re telling the flight plan we want to go from the waypoint before the MANSEQ waypoint, to the next one (SANTY), so it fills in the gap that way.
when approaching TOD can you just put in the lowest alt on the arrival ? I know in the CJ4 you can. it keeps you from having to continually change the alt.
I am new to FS2024 on newest series Xbox, Thrustmaster HOTAS, and MSFT controller. I am having great challenges navigating the screens with my hand controllers. Like no obvious cursor as I would have with a mouse. Is there a tutor I can engage to get me started? I am familiar with flying, navigation, AP, flight planning. I just can’t get comfortable getting started with my setup. Thanks!
My suggestion would be to get used to flying the TBM visually first, then learn IFR with it. It's a fun plane, and with the upgraded G3000 now it's a winner for any instrument flying, and the extra speed means you can get places and fly procedures faster than a C172 can.
Hello ! did you ever encounter all screens going black either in the tbm or the honda jet ? I purchase the honda jet last week on market place i keep loosing the avionics. So annoying, i am not able to fix the problem. I do play on xbox by the way i thing you're more on PC. By the way great channel i learn a lot from you videos since i start playing this amazing game 3 months ago. Cheers for your input.
It sounds like the batteries are draining down and you’re losing the avionics when they run out of juice. On the MFD, in the electrical section, both the volts and amps should be in the green. If they aren’t, maybe the Generators aren’t on?
@@FlightSimSchool i did try this yesterday night all battery system are in the green. it does it with the tbm from time to time but now the problem is with this add in that i pay 35$ ! what a rip off !
@@FlightSimSchool Actually - I've figured it out. Hold down the left mouse and drag left or right across the screen. You can go from 1,000 to 50,000 in a single swipe! This works for many of the dials. Yes!
It's been a while since I flew the 930, but if I remember correctly there is a way to configure it so that the prop controls the right side of the "H" to move into and out of feather.
Not sure if you can answer this question or not, but in the default King Air 350 for some reason when I activate an approach after having been direct to an waypoint (bypassing others in the flight plan), it will take me to the bypassed waypoint instead of direct to the IAF. Any idea why this would be happening?
@@FlightSimSchool not sure. I normally fly the Black Square Analog version, but it’s got a bug with the GNS 530 and autopilot that I’ve read is from one of the previous updates. I was trying the default because I was thinking of using it for Vatsim flights even though I much prefer the Black Square version. So it seems llike they both have issues.
The black square autopilot bug should be fixed now that the new sim update is out, i haven’t tried it myself but that’s what I had heard. There’s also a workaround for it you can do yourself to fix it if isn’t
@@FlightSimSchool for some reason I can’t select all waypoints for vnav the only option I see is direct waypoint for vnav but in your video, I seen you select all the Way points and altitudes ?
Thank you for your sharing this, but I am having a problem that you are not. Coupled VNAV is not functioning for me. All of my procedures for setting up the descent profile appear to be the same as yours (note: the only mods I have loaded are Navigraph and Bijan's Seasons). Here are my current setup procedures: -- Set the altitude of the FAF in the PFD -- Verified that the proper procedure is loaded in the g3000 and the proper altitudes are assigned to each WP -- Enabled VNAV in the GTC -- Enabled VNAV in the AP I get nothing. Sometimes a "PATH" indicator comes on in the PFD but no TOD appears on the MFD map now and the AP will not initiate (nor indicate) a descent. Any ideas?
Hi Randall, that’s a strange one. A few thoughts: - By no mods, I’m assuming you mean there is nothing else in your Community folder? I would try wiping it completely just as a test even if it is just navigraph and seasons in there. I had a problem with FSUIPC causing issues, but it doesn’t sound like you’re using it. - The other thing is check in your content manager to see if there is something else hiding in there that might be conflicting. - What do you see if you go into the VNAV page in the GTC? does it show you any waypoints or time to TOD?
@@FlightSimSchool I had someone recommend that I remove the aircraft, then reinstall it. I'll try that first. I'll try the Community folder folder clean-out after that if there is no change. As far as the VNAV page is concerned I'll have to take a look during the next flight. As I recall, it was already enabled when I opened the page and the IAF/transition for the approach procedure was preloaded with the altitude restraint already in place. The other info was blank (TOD time, descent rate, distance, etc.)
@@FlightSimSchool Still no joy, so I may have to give up on this - one of my favorite aircraft. I removed the Seasons but left Navigraph so I would have my charts. I can verify that the VNAV page shows that VNAV is active but DOES NOT display TOD or time to TOD. The FP does display all of the waypoints, times, and altitude restrictions (but VNAV ignores them).
@@FlightSimSchool I do have the Longitude and I look forward to flying it. It's on my To-Do list for the future, but I like to learn an aircraft completely before I proceed to the next - "it's in the cue" so-to-speak. I fly the CJ4 often and have no issues with it (though that is a different system). -- I was considering removing FS2020 and reinstalling it (something I've never had to do) but now that I've shared my issue with others I find that I'm not the only one experiencing problems w/the TBM g3000 update. They are rare, but there are problems. It's time to make a Zendesk report on this.
Entered the same origin and destination in Simbrief, but get KMRY/28L N0294F200 SANTY V25 OSI KSFO/28L instead of the DCT SANTY etc. you get. What do I do wrong?
Simbrief changes the flight plan sometimes for a multiple of factors. The route you have will work just as well, you’d only need to enter SANTY and OSI as waypoints instead of the ones I had.
@@FlightSimSchool I tried the Simbrief way and set the waypoints and also an approach for my ILS runway. But TOD does not show using VNAV (G5000 Longitude). I only get it to show if I use the ingame flight planner. Do you know why?
Excellent video. Very clear. I have a problem. When already enagaged on ILS and the green dot is alredy going to center, suddenly it moves until the bottom of the line and the plane continues over the runway at high altitude. What am I doing bad? Can you help me?
@@sebastiancarranza2185 Make sure the altitude that you've set for the autopilot is at the minimum descent altitude, and the GS should go from white to green, and then it should descend on the slope.
Good morning. After reading your explanations and seeing again the video I can do all correct but I need to practice more. Thank you Only two more questions: 1) why some times doesn't appear the transition? 2) In the bug section I can't see the different way points and its altitude so I can choose one of them.
Yeah I’ve noticed that also. What I do is use a bit of power to get moving and then bring the power to idle, and use a touch of brakes or reverse to slow down slightly when needed.
I'm having an issue where if I enter a flight plan into the MFD, I cannot get IFR clearance from the ATC list. I am hitting load and I do see the flight plan on screen but then there's no option to request IFR and get taxi instructions to the runway. Can anyone help? Thank you for your time.
I don’t use the default atc but my guess is it doesn’t know about your flight when you enter it directly from the cockpit and therefore can’t give you instructions. You can test it if you load a plan from the flight planning screen.
@@FlightSimSchool ATC automatically contacts me and gives me IFR clearance if I do it from the world map. Is that just a bug then? I just want to make sure it's not a user error and I'm missing something. 😂
@@hamsack981 Yeah, they would need to make it detect the flight plan entered in the cockpit, so it's either a bug or improvement depending on how they want to look at it.

I’m having issues with the weather radar in the TBM when you turn it on it continues to say standby any ideas if it’s a glitch in the system or has to do with an update
I just tried it out (sorry for the delay), the weather radar is working for me. You could try re-installing the plane from Content Manager. But remember, the weather radar only shows precipitation, it won't show you cloud coverage.
You could try uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the Content Manager. Strangely I don’t think you’re the first person to say that about this plane.
@@owenwalden4912Yes, but it's only temporary. Copy it to another backup folder first, clean your Community folder, try and see if it makes a difference, and then you can put it back.

Thanks!
Hi John, with Flight Sim 2024 coming out today, there will likely be a ton of tutorials walking you through all of it.
Is this a good first plane for learning ifr or ILS stuff or is one of the other slower planes better suited or more simplistic?
You could create a thread on the MSFS forums, maybe someone there has had the same issue (and hopefully a resolution). Best of luck!
Hold left shift to scroll altitude in 1000s.
That’s a great tip, thanks!
@@FlightSimSchool Sorry I told lies... It actually goes up in +200 increments, not +1000 :-(
@@ActiveDataTools Better than nothing
@@FlightSimSchool Actually - I've figured it out. Hold down the left mouse and drag left or right across the screen. You can go from 1,000 to 50,000 in a single swipe! This works for many of the dials. Yes!
Due to the weird throttle, how would you set up the a joystick throttle lever device to work with this plane?
It's been a while since I flew the 930, but if I remember correctly there is a way to configure it so that the prop controls the right side of the "H" to move into and out of feather.
Is it not right to set initial vnav altitude to final approach fix altitude?
Not sure if you can answer this question or not, but in the default King Air 350 for some reason when I activate an approach after having been direct to an waypoint (bypassing others in the flight plan), it will take me to the bypassed waypoint instead of direct to the IAF. Any idea why this would be happening?
Is this since Sim Update 15? I know they did a lot of changes to the G3X avionics...
@@FlightSimSchool I hope it is fixed in this update. I’ll check it out in the next day or so. Thanks for the reply.
so for v nav to work you have to set the altitude before each vnav way point right?
That's right. If you're flying an arrival or approach it should load some sensible defaults for you, but you can always adjust them afterwards.
@@FlightSimSchool for some reason I can’t select all waypoints for vnav the only option I see is direct waypoint for vnav but in your video, I seen you select all the Way points and altitudes ?
Yes, you should be able to input the altitudes you want for each waypoint by clicking on the altitude field on the flight plan page.
Thank you for your sharing this, but I am having a problem that you are not. Coupled VNAV is not functioning for me. All of my procedures for setting up the descent profile appear to be the same as yours (note: the only mods I have loaded are Navigraph and Bijan's Seasons).
Here are my current setup procedures:
-- Set the altitude of the FAF in the PFD
-- Verified that the proper procedure is loaded in the g3000 and the proper altitudes are assigned to each WP
-- Enabled VNAV in the GTC
-- Enabled VNAV in the AP
I get nothing. Sometimes a "PATH" indicator comes on in the PFD but no TOD appears on the MFD map now and the AP will not initiate (nor indicate) a descent. Any ideas?
Hi Randall, that’s a strange one. A few thoughts:
- By no mods, I’m assuming you mean there is nothing else in your Community folder?
That’s too bad. Do you have the Cessna longitude, which uses the g5000? If you try Vnav with that one, does it work?
@@FlightSimSchool I do have the Longitude and I look forward to flying it. It's on my To-Do list for the future, but I like to learn an aircraft completely before I proceed to the next - "it's in the cue" so-to-speak. I fly the CJ4 often and have no issues with it (though that is a different system).
-- I was considering removing FS2020 and reinstalling it (something I've never had to do) but now that I've shared my issue with others I find that I'm not the only one experiencing problems w/the TBM g3000 update. They are rare, but there are problems. It's time to make a Zendesk report on this.
I use ForeFlight for flight planning, way better.
In the top right of the PFD do you see if GS is written in green? It doesn’t sound like it captured it correctly.
Thank you. And what can I do to correct during the flight?
@@sebastiancarranza2185 Make sure the altitude that you've set for the autopilot is at the minimum descent altitude, and the GS should go from white to green, and then it should descend on the slope.
I will do. Thank you
Good morning. After reading your explanations and seeing again the video I can do all correct but I need to practice more. Thank you
Only two more questions: 1) why some times doesn't appear the transition? 2) In the bug section I can't see the different way points and its altitude so I can choose one of them.
Can you tell me why the Tbm taxis fast after you release the parking brake, it seems wrong
Yeah I’ve noticed that also. What I do is use a bit of power to get moving and then bring the power to idle, and use a touch of brakes or reverse to slow down slightly when needed.
was thinking the same thing...screaming along the taxiway haaa
Are you secretly Kermit the Frog in human form? Please be honest.
I can do an epic Kermit the frog impression. Hope you learned something useful in the video.
@@FlightSimSchool for some reason I can do a touch-and-go and then file for the IFR once I'm in the air. But I appreciate your time and thank you for the help!
I can't for the life of me find the climb rate for the altitude setting. Is there one? I love the tbm
Just look at the vertical speed ;) Whatever it’s showing is your climb/descent rate.
I have tried so many times for my Vnav to work- it just doesn't. I have uninstalled msfs and re installed it. I have used waypoint "direct button" still will not working. The aircraft just does not drop down to the altitude needed. The "autopilot is engaged. I have followed every step and still nothing I'm perplexed.
Do you see the TOD marker on the navigation display?
@@FlightSimSchool Yes I do see the TOD, Well I did that same flight this morning from Kmry to Ksfo and it finally worked I'm not sure why it was not before. The flight was enjoyable and the aircraft descended close to the runway. Any way your channel is very informative and you do a great job.
That's awesome, glad you figured it out :)
@@shoop4040 man, i have the same problem
I’m having issues with the weather radar in the TBM when you turn it on it continues to say standby any ideas if it’s a glitch in the system or has to do with an update
I just tried it out (sorry for the delay), the weather radar is working for me. You could try re-installing the plane from Content Manager. But remember, the weather radar only shows precipitation, it won't show you cloud coverage.
There’s this glitch on my plane where I can even press the heading nob! Any idea on how to fix it
You could try uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the Content Manager. Strangely I don’t think you’re the first person to say that about this plane.
@@FlightSimSchool okay!
@@FlightSimSchool for some reason I can even delete the aircraft it doesn’t show anywhere
For some reason for me its VORand not FMS and won't follow my path
You can press the soft key right below where it says Active Nav to switch it from VOR to FMS
When I load into a bunch of planes it doesn’t let me chose sids/stars and when I load in this plane I can only go direct! Any help?
That’s bizarre, have you tried emptying your community folder? It sounds like something is corrupted somewhere
@@FlightSimSchool wouldn’t I lose all my mods and livery’s?
@@owenwalden4912Yes, but it's only temporary. Copy it to another backup folder first, clean your Community folder, try and see if it makes a difference, and then you can put it back.
@@FlightSimSchool do you have a video on how to do that bc I don’t wanna mess it up
@@owenwalden4912Unfortunately I don't but I'm sure if you do a search on UA-cam you'll find someone else who has covered it.
Where is the latest update located?
The G3000 was updated automatically by the sim when it released.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I follow these exact steps and the plane just flies in circles. 😕
Which part specifically are you struggling with?
@@FlightSimSchool It’s weird, once I get to a higher altitude things seem to smoothen out, but initially the plane tries to end my life. It seems 50/50
Does the TBM auto land?
No, but if you leave the AP on it will continue to follow the glide slope all the way to the centreline; it won’t flare for you or reduce your thrust on touchdown though.
@@FlightSimSchool AP you mean autopilot?
@@Jebusite100 Yep
very unclear
