I got a pair of albino corydoras for clean up in my betta tank, and recently relocated them into their own tank in a group of 6 now, and they're doing way better as a group. One of my corys from the original pair was hyperactive and constantly zipping around, now he chills with the group.

Cory cats are so much fun to watch scurrying about taking care of business. To wake up and find a splotch of eggs on the glass or on a plant leaf is like them saying thanks for taking good care of us.

Being a CoryDora owner myself for over three years I personally have not experienced the toxin issue. I do think I even shipped three together in one fish bag from Alabama to Florida. Without any deaths, so I’m curious about the scientific findings on that myself. Cory thanks so much for this video I enjoyed it it was fun and it was informative.

Agreed they are very amusing. Especially when they school and scavenge for food together, super cute. Mine will sometimes "spaz" around the tank. Swimming up and down or side to side. Then relax for a bit. Search for food or they like to swim against the current I have in my tank that also produces bubbles of oxygen for them. I have a 44 gallon tank with 1 betta and 8 cory catfish.

I have a tip I hope u try.. I have a very small bowl shaped dish at the bottom of each of my large aquariums (the size of a small cupped palm). I take what I call a "feeding tube" and dip it into the water until it reaches the dish and it allows me to drop food directly into the dish. The foods stay in the dish and keeps the gravel CLEANER and the left overs can easily be found for later. I sink shrimp pellets, wafers, worms, anything that sinks goes down the feeding tube into the dish. Other than that I use floating pond pellets and never flakes and I promise I have to vacuum less than I used to with other feeding methods. I know u read ALL the comments so thanks for your time 👍🐙

Corys are a long standing addiction, as well as Plecos and more recently Rainbows. I have a variety from Lasers to Long fin Pandas, to Reticulated, etc. I have 18 tanks and each houses Corys except the tank of my 9" Jack Dempsey "Cobalt". The mistake I see most with Corys is they aren't fed and suffer long term effects. I use a turkey baster to by pass other fast and aggressive eaters, to help get blood worms, black worms, frozen shrimp, etc. down where they can access it. Great care video, combining care sheet facts with personal experience. Thanks!

Cory, on cories! 😍 I am addicted to pygmy species, but mostly because I have bettas. I am now thinking of a larger species for my 29 gallon with a giant betta. I did have a bad experience: I got 7 baby pandas that began to die, quickly. I chalked this up to a recent heat wave. Then a betta died... I found it odd, as the parameters were perfect. I got another betta, it died... Khulis and snails were fine! The third betta, I finally realized had internal parasites and I treated the tank. Lost some beautiful fish! (Cross contamination to 3 other betta.) Those pandas came from a fish shop I've never been to. I believe they were the original carriers. Unfortunately, the treatment wiped out most of my khulis, too. But it had to be done, and saved my dumbo platinum female betta! Not mention, future fish. 🙂

Only 2 survived... : ( I would have them for a few days before one would die so I would take it back to the store get a new one plus one more and they would die a few days later. That's $70.00 on little fish down the toilet.... I was so sad and gave up on having a small troop. And honestly, embarrassed about going back to the store with dead fish every other day! I would have the store test my water and I checked the water temp before I took the new ones home to make sure everything was ok. My other fish were all fine as well. The 2 survivors are active and well for more than 30 days so I think they will live. I want more but I'm scared they will just die. Any suggestions??

Peppered cory can survive in ponds in water temperature 40 f ( 4 celsius) . I keep them all year in pond outside and they dooing well . They still active and eating when water temperature drop to around 8 celsius. Very hardy fish. During winter they all ,,sleeping,, on bottom with koi :)

I just got 4 julii corys recently with 3 blue wags platys in a 10 gallon and I'm loving them, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to maybe get 4 more but I will at least get 2 more for sure to make it 6 so they feel safer 🥰

Wish I watch some of your videos before I brought 3 corydoras. I did a mistake buying three different species. The pet shop I got them from didn't advise me to only get one type, he said they all get on so upto you. I did ask the question best one type or different. Nevermind, as least it give me an excuse to buy more. I did plan to get more another week anyway, hope they still have some of the species I need

I have 5 in my 75 gallon. They are the main clean up crew in my tank, but I don't have enough. I constantly have to clean up scraps because they get full and don't eat anymore. I know I have to do most of the work, but still. I'm not sure how many I should have. I have 2 iridescent sharks, 2 Angelfish, 4 Discus, and 1 Glofish. The iridescents do not clean up. The iridescents have shrimp pellets that they eat. They dont touch the flakes. The corycats eat everything, but they get full like I said. My tank is 79 degrees and my corycats are fine. They even laid eggs (which my discus ate). I just don't have enough to clean up the food the other fish don't eat.
And I've tried feeding them less but that just resulted in one of my discus not eating enough and getting killed by the other Discus. I feed my fish just enough, but scraps still end up not not eaten and decaying on my gravel. 2 of my discus have Cloudy Eye disease, which is caused by poor water conditions. I constantly clean my tank, but with the scraps decaying at the bottom the nitrite and nitrate levels inevitably rise. I have restored the water conditions and the discus are improving, but I dont want this to happen again.

I believe they can give off toxic stuff with that gland. I was adding plants to my tank and had changed the water, when moving some pieces around, the cory got spooked and he freaked out bad,he started darting around the tank and hitting the sand ,he passed his school of other cory fish and they also began to freak out in the same way. Then they all became very still and would not move unless poked by my betta. I watched them for a while and they did not perk up until i added melafix to the tank. Definitely think the melafix saved them.

Hi from England, thanks for info, I've kept these before, I am now in a Hostel, We have a communal tank with goldfish, a Guy the other day just 'threw' a Cory in!, He seems OK, His hiding place is a log, the temp I have not checked,or PH, bet they are well outside the zone for Him, gonna get some frozen bloodworms, and some Mates for Him!

Hi Cory, I believe them releasing toxin when bagged is true as it happened with my Skunks. I got 5 and thankfully had only a 10 minute drive home. 4 of them were floating listlessly upside down when I got home, thankfully they all survived. I introduced them with no acclamation as I felt they needed out the bag asap. Had no problems with 10 Bronze Corydoras (bags of 5 2 weeks apart). All are well and are the best/most entertaining fish in my tank. Have a look in my channel if you have time ;-)

I'm obsessed with these catfish. I had 3 and then the bronze/brown ones started breeding and I saw catfish the size of rice in my tank then there were 30.....so I had to sell some to a local pet store in my town (and no it wasn't some chain pet store)

Corys are great, as you said a school of corys with a betta or gourami makes an interesting tank. I have 7 in my 15 gallons, they are doing great. Although they are still very timid and are not very interactive, although they are very cute when poke around the sand.

Might be brighter lighting than they wish, you could try creating some more dark spots or trying like half light for a few hours and see if they get more active.

@@AquariumCoop I do have low level lighting in the aquarium (3watt led bulb). I suspected that they are not getting enough hiding places and made three caves, but now they hide under them whenever I approach the aquarium. The only time they are out is the time when I feed them.

For that reason I was hesitant and purchasing them and I had purchased a Juli Cory more then a year back and the fish is still perfectly sound and healthier than I am

As owning 5 peppered Cory catfish and 6 Albino. I have noticed that mine love eating thier pellets and leftover fish food best! Mine will only eat fish poop if it’s the middle of the day and there’s no more left over fish food and they ate their pellets, then they will eat the fish poop. But they definitely try to avoid it lol

They are very scared and always hide and being so small I can hardly know if they still live, I just see a couple now and then and when I feed algae wafers I see lots but still not sure how many (1 corpse appeared yesterday...)
