  • Here we go from a traditional copper connection with 70mb/s down and 20mb/s up to a fibre connection with guaranteed speeds of 400mb/s and 60 mb/s up for the same price!
    We'll go through the existing copper setup (FTTC) to the new fibre setup (FTTP) and any changes that we had to make to accommodate it. Hopefully this video will help you make the choice to upgrade if fibre has become available at your property! Let us know any questions in the comments below.

    Hi mate so I'm a fibre engineer, what reason did the engineer give for not installing the fibre where you originally wanted it looks to me that the engineer just went for the easy option, on average as long as there are 2 power sockets and there's an external wall in the room you want it installed there is no excuse not to install it in that room upstairs or downstairs it doesn't matter there are a few exceptions but from the video they don't really apply, as for providers all they do is tell openreach what speed you're paying for and openreach sends that to your ONT/router the main reason you don't get the full 500mb/s all the time is based on how good the splice was in the CSP (grey op box on the outside) there will always be some amount of dust trapped in the splice and other impurities and where the cable plugs into the CBT (fibre terminal on the pole/pit) as it's not spliced in that connection is the weakest link but splicing on a pole it damn near impossible and dangerous due to weather and other factors sorry for the long comment but wanted to also give anyone who read this comment some insight to why they most likely won't get the speeds that they pay for and give some advice, the best advice I will give don't be loyal to any individual provider when your contract runs out figure out what speed you want then compare all the providers and go for the cheapest offer available also if one room in the house is getting weak signal tell your provider you've got a dead spot in the house most providers guarantee signal throughout your home and normally will provide boosters free of charge😉
    got to say i enjoyed your vid and have just subbed

      Hi, I am with sky and I'm on the ultrafast+ Im constantly getting speeds below 500mbs averaging 85 to 130mbs. Spoken to sky and they are saying the speed is correct going to my house but I might have router issues. Can you elaborate on that please. Engineer is coming out next week thankfully. But I've never achieved 500mbs as they stated I would. It's so inconsistent I feel I'm paying for a product that simply is not working. Thank you.

      @@wozzaclk7798hi so this could be down to many different reasons could be a faulty Ethernet cable from the ont to the router or the engineer who installed your fibre might have installed the incorrect ont inside your house this is a fairly common issue as the different types look identical except the Ethernet port is yellow on the slower ont and orange on the faster Ont but the engineer should be able to get this sorted pretty easy, if it’s the Ont it’s as easy as swapping it over and calling dcoe (openreach) to activate the new Ont

    I can't wait for full fibre to become available in my area. I'm still stuck with Sky FTTC. Connection itself is great and for the 10+ years I've had it, it's been rock-solid stable. My ping with FTTC is great (hovers around 4-5ms to servers nearby when directly connected via Ethernet). However, I want full fibre so I can download larger files much quicker. That's what I'm looking forward to most about upgrading.
    It doesn't seem like fibre is coming to my area anytime soon though, which sucks.

      We were quite surprised that we had the option to upgrade to FTTP considering we are in a fairly rural area, and we have been to very remote areas which still have fibre, so It’s very possible you’ll get the option sooner rather than later!

    Now, here’s the thing, BT OpenReach is installing all this fibre throughout the UK and BT engineers connect the fibre ONT inside your house.
    That’s fine, but then you need a service provider to get use of that fibre facilities.
    I have my copper connection, called FTTC which is ‘Fibre To The Cabinet” and I get my Telephone and Broadband at about 50Mb/s as well as an basic entertainment package from sky. I also have a Satellite Dish on Sky.
    The entertainment package and the talk package seems quite reasonably priced….
    BUT the Broadband cost is very high putting my total cost up to about £60 p.m.
    My wife and I are pensioners and would like to keep our copper fed phone.
    The thing that I do not get is why SKY charges so much for the Broadband feed when in fact it was all installed and maintained by BT and OpenReach.
    It seems to me that Sky is taking advantage of the Fibre Network installed and maintained by BT and OpenReach and charging an excessive amount and profiting excessively.
    Other providers also charge quite a lot for the Broadband.
    The entertainment and Talk facility is fine but the add on for Broadband seems excessive.

    We dont get as much speed as you and we're with fibre aswell. We dont have any boosters though, do they come in handy? We dont get wifi from across half out house and we are thinking of getting a booster. For some reason we dont have that purple/grey cable you have. Do we need to buy one? Our internet speed with fiber is up to 70. And it got installed today.. Other issue is We cant connect to our internet now. Im unsure whats the issue is im not an expert in this sort of thing. The highest we get is 10 on ethernet pcs.. And it says our DNS has an issue or something. It jumps from 10 and back down to 3.. Is there a way to solve this?

    • @everythingcubed4210
      @everythingcubed4210  7 днів тому

      Hello, so the purple cable is only for copper connections. Now that you are on fibre It’s no longer needed. Your speeds will probably be slow if you have a different plan to us - we are on a 500mb/s plan but you could be on a 100mb/s one? And yes we do recommend the boosters, you should be able to get them for free if you give sky a call. Any variations in your speeds are either caused by too much internet traffic in your area or your connection stabilising because it is new. :)

      @@everythingcubed4210 Hi, thanks for that! We might get a booster. We just found out our router was actually faulty! so no one was getting internet except the ethernet ones. We are getting a new router so hopefully it will improve speed! We are on the 100mb/s one i think! Thanks for helping out. Hopefully our internet isnt slow. They are sending another router out.

      @@kirahhAbout a month ago we also had to replace the router because there were weird issues where it would not let our sky box transmit ethernet properly. I guess they can often be faulty! (Although the router that was replaced was fairly old, the new one definitely was slightly different at least in terms of the material it was made from for better thermals I assume)

    Didn’t think you could use the sky q to bridge WiFi to Ethernet

    • @everythingcubed4210
      @everythingcubed4210  5 місяців тому

      Yep, you can either use it to connect a device to ethernet to provide wifi (e.g for us currently the sky Q box provides the wifi to the booster) or alternatively from a router (or booster) to provide wifi to the sky Q box. (This works for any sky product including the mini box). I think it automatically decides which provides internet to which device depending on which has higher internet speeds.

      All has been OK with stable high speeds, although recently it would appear that the Ethernet port on the sky Q TV box has stopped working (and so the booster upstairs in the study), sky have sent us a new router which they think will solve the problem. Other than that, we are extremely happy and It’s a huge improvement over the previous plan.
