  • Sammy Davis Jr, during his early 70s Satanist phase, made this unsold tv pilot with a plot that plays like a satanic reversal of 'It's a Wonderful Life', complete with a Christmas-time setting. Sammy is a zany, misfit demon who is on the outs with Lucifer (Christopher Lee) because he hasn't captured a soul in over a thousand years. He gets one last chance when he is assigned a burned-out salesman (Jack Klugman) who is thinking of selling his soul. Sammy scambles to satisfy Jack's desire for wealth and revenge and the usual sitcom merriment ensues. Also starring Gino Conforti as Sammy's demonic rival and Adam West as Klugman's sleazy boss. Originally broadcast by NBC on Valentines Day, 1973.

one of my favorite lines from this movie by the way, was when Jack Klugman kissed his wife goodnight and Christopher Lee said I do believe he is getting ready, and Sammy said don't you think we should turn off the screen and Christopher Lee said for us and I just thought that was hysterical

I don’t like posting comments back to back like this but hopefully it’ll help this get noticed by the algorithm because it’s unique and worth the weird watch. However the more I watch the more I can see what Burton was probably imagining in the infancy of beetlejuice. In an alternate timeline perhaps Keaton wasn’t cast as the titular Beetlejuice but it ended up actually going to Sammy. Imagine just how different that movie would be tonally.
