PSP Slim Joystick Analog Stick HOW TO FIX IT

- Hello guys,
I have a PSP slim 2001 and my joystick wasn't working properly anymore, so I decided to change it. Once I opened my PSP I thought why not try to fix the joystick instead of changing it !
So I disassembled it and cleaned it from all the dust and put it back on and it was working perfectly fine after that !
So why buy a new one and change it when you can fix it yourself !

Just found a PSP at the thrift shop for 8$ it was taken apart. Honestly have no idea what the guy was trying to do.
No speakers, the film around the screen is off. Parts here and there. Screws flopping around inside. Didn’t even put it back together. Hell they didn’t even bother putting the shoulder button back on.. what the hell were they doing???
I put what I can back together. The films damaged so I can’t have the dust protection on my screen and some other parts I couldn’t figure out in a single night. Might open it up again and see but from the videos I saw everything was back to the way it was (I havnt seen the back of one so I’m assuming that’s where these go, and the speakers are still gone) other than that I put her back together.
I doubt this thing works but hey! I finally can say I own some sort of psp! I can hold it in my hands which is a cool feeling for me. And add it to my collection! So it was a win for me.
If it DOES work however. I watched this just incase the analog stick is funky. So thank you :)
Easy to disassemble, hard to reassemble. Expect the spring to dislodge from the head many times. Let the professionals do it instead.

I'm glad I watched this because I was wondering if the 2000 was built the same and its identical on the inside. The only thing Sony changed was the way the analogs contact the mother board. The 1000 analog sticks were very bad out of factory, they end up feeling like crap very catchy feeling like plastic against plastic. My 3000 is super smooth compared to my 1000 so I'm ordering some aftermarket analogs to see if they are smoother. The build quality of the psp1000 is amazing but the screen and analog ruin the experience, if I was into modding I'd love to use parts from the 2000&3000 and put them in the 1000.
I would say the ribbon cable of the 3000 is far better than conductive rubber the 2000 has a tough disassemble to the analog stick the 1000 slightly easier and the 3000 almost similar to the 2000 but easier cuz of the ribbon cable

Why have to remove so many things? I just remove front panel, remove one analog screw & pull up slowly pull left and clean contact, that's all
But does it work though?

Hi, can you tell me how fluid you did the clean analog stick?
It is recommended you put just a small amount of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) but just a small bit.
Use Isopropyl Alcohol for the Analog Stick
The HOME button from my PSP is not working, you think that may can be a case of dirt, or something like that?
Igo Dreamer maybe you've damaged the ribbon cable...trying pressing on it without cover, you'll feel the clicking sensation...if the click is felt, see the button doing anything on your screen

My analog stick is stuck and wont move
Most probably the stick got stuck between the sides of the 3 slides if it’s solid stuck don’t force it just disassemble the bottom part be careful not to open the spring since that part can cause lots of problems

I have a weird issue, everytime I move joystick or direction button, it goes into home screen o_0 might be a ribbon problem
I took mine apart to find out the spring inside was bent.

Muhammad Rizaldien It’s ok, just buy a new analog stick from eBay, they come already built so all you need to do is take apart the PSP and attached the new analog stick. I’m doing my one tonight

no matter how many times I try to switch the orientation of the gel piece on the joystick facing up of course and no matter how many times I tighten or loosen the joystick screws, my stick at the end of it still controls itself and I can't make it move up without it wanting to left..again I hold up on analog and it goes left...etc :(
Chair-Person hello, sorry but maybe your joystick needs to be changed after all... the probleme I had was mostly because of the dirt and it only needed cleaning.. but if it still doesnt work after cleaning than it needs changing :/
Just buy a new one, they're actually remarkably cheap

i changed the (whole) housing. it was successful but the analog went totally nuts. its going circles, i even tried removing the analog and still it goes circles on its own. RIP 😢

@@BlitxWasTaken i fixed it already. i figured the cause. the new housing i bought was loosen because it was a cheap knock off.. clever, i just put a small paper just above the analog (corner of the screen) to tighten it. yeah and it worked haha
It does this because if you look closely when taking off the analog part, there is a small rubber clear pad ontop of the contacts. If you lose that part then the joystick won’t make great contact when put back. This happened to me when I ordered a new one and failed to realize that they didn’t come with the clear rubber pad, thankfully I had the broken one with everything still saved.
