  • In every hobby, you will make mistakes. That’s part of the game, also when you make cyanotypes.
Some mistakes are final and other errors can either be covered up or corrected. And some mistakes have a surprising effect. Beautiful results came from accidental errors.
In the video, I list 6 common mistakes and there are 7 more in the accompanying article. Have a look here:

Thank you for this video! I got my first cyanotype kit for Christmas this past year, and I am still learning and having some of the same issues.

How exciting! It's so much fun, isn't it, and after you have mastered the basics, there still is such a lot to discover. Are you making your cyanotypes in the sun or with an UV-lamp?
      Have fun and greetings.

@@HannieMommers Yes, it is so much fun! And it is very true what you said about not all mistakes being a bad thing, I've had some happy accidents happen as well.
So far, I've been using a UV light that I already had for my houseplants. It's been working well, but one thing I just covered last night is that I was underexposing some of the prints that I thought were under the light for long enough. With my light, it seems that they need 30 to 40 minutes minimum

@@elisaxsimmons Oh wow, that's a long time. Indeed it's easier to under-expose than to over-expose. The advantage of UV is that once you have the appropriate time, it's constant. Yet, using the sunlight has its own charm, so I alternate as well :)
Where are you located? I am in Spain, so most of the time the sun is abundant.
      Good luck!
