Thanks a lot for the detailed comments on the process for each print. Now I understand why vinegar and soap are used.I love the different effects you obtained. Cyanotype is so much fun!
Wow Devon, what a process !! Thank you for sharing you’re experiment with us. Oh how I loved watching the colour change, and the movement when you added the soap and thenDipped it and instead of going dull it became the most amazing blue colour. Wow magic ! it’s how they made blueprints ! ? this is all so interesting, what amazing results. Wonderful to see how you created the lampshade thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your process - your instructions were very well explained. You got some awesome results!!! I might give it a try, you made it look so simple!
I love what you got with this. I've been wanting to try this for a while, just got some books about it, now I need parts A & B. Those bubbles are gorgeous! Your mention of Turmeric was intriguing.
Thank you for doing this. I was planning on buying the kit but after seeing what it took I don’t have a place to do it. So you saved me spending money on something I couldn’t do. Now I’ll spend it on something else..hehe
They do sell premade sheets that you could cut smaller and can set out in the sun. You still have to wash them afterwards but if paper is small enough, you could do this in the sink. The peroxide bath is just an optional step and they will turn darker blue over time without that step. Whatever you decide to do I know you will have fun, I just wanted to point out some options for you to consider. Thanks for watching Liz 💙
@@devonrex4 thanks, good to know. Till next spring my deck doesn’t get sunlight but after that I could do some. I live in a condo so I don’t always have options. Have a great week..
this all turned out wonderful. I did not know about the wet technique but will try it. I bought this same product back in the spring and had intended to use it this summer but never got around to it. I may have to wait until next summer now.
I’m not done watching yet but I just have to comment! OMG THIS IS SO COOL! I love that the color changes right before our eyes! Also I had no idea the history of Cyanotype, that was fun to learn about too. Thank you so much for taking us through the process, I’m really enjoying this video!💙💙💙
Thanks so much Leona! Blue is my favorite color 💙 They do sell premade sheets that you could cut smaller and can set out in the sun (but you still have to wash them, however the peroxide bath is just an optional step and they will turn darker blue over time without that step)
Hi Devon! You always do such awesome videos and techniques! Don't know who your camera man was.. but thanks for doing a great job too! Love this technique. The papers all turned out beautiful! It seems like a lot of work though. TFS 💕
Thanks so much Gail! Yes, it is quite a bit of work to set up but it seemed worth it. I hope to do a few more sessions next spring💙 My 18 year old son was my videographer, I will let him know you appreciated his efforts.👍
Yes, I think lace could would. Probably if it was black lace you would get a better contrast but the white lace may give you some nice subtle details. Have fun Maxine, let me know how it goes. I hope to do another session next summer. 😄
Hi! I have just bough the jacquard cyanotype kit and I was wondering how much water I have to put in the bottles? Great video by the way, very helpful!! thanks
You fill them each up pretty much (from how I understood the directions). I used distilled water because it is my understanding that they can keep well for quite some time. You don’t mix the two solutions together though until right before you are ready to use it. Have fun! Please tag me on instagram if you post your results 💙
I started by buying the raw chemicals from Bostwick and Sullivan...and a couple of other chemical supply houses. To mix the chems, I sartet with some YT formulae. It was difficult because the recopies shifted (internally) from English to metric and from solid weights to liquid measure with no regard to logic. When I finally worked it out, I had problems finding a suitable paper. The paper is not only a matter of surface texture but also absorption. The next issue was brush strokes. I want 0 but have not solved that one yet. It only took me a year to find the best useable density for transparent material inkjet negatives. I am looking to print photos; Urban scenes, architecture and nudes. Still working on it and it may be a while
Thank you for your comment! Love the info. I would like to try using transparencies in my cyanotypes but probably not until next summer. Thanks for watching!
oh wow Devon this is fantastic - this process created some beautiful results - and you may want to remove and block one of the below comments - they pop up everywhere!!
Ok, thanks for the tip. I will leave it longer next time (probably won’t get a chance until next spring). Thanks for watching, I appreciate your advice 👍
It would be better to do the preparation inside and only take it out when you are ready to do the exposure. You are getting too much exposure on the paper before you even begin. The wash should also be done away from UV light ideally. When you do the wash, let the water run slowly into the tray for 4 minutes. The bead of water should have the thickness of a pencil. Your bins are really too deep for this. You can get photo trays from a photographer retailer. The high pressure spray will damage the paper. Good luck exploring this process.
@@michaellevy9638 Thank you for all the tips. I will definitely keep these in mind the next time. I know my set up wasn’t perfect but I had a couple of factors that led me to some of my decisions : I wanted to do a very large piece for a project (the lamp I revealed in the video prior to this one) and I also wanted to film the project (which requires a certain amount of light) so these factors necessitated me filming in my garage (a lower light situation where I could accommodate the large pieces). I have wanted to do this process again and the next time I won’t be filming it and I will be doing on a smaller scale so I will definitely come back to review your comment again and heed your advice. Thanks so much 😄
You are so brave trying all these methods. They are always a success.

@@devonrex4 With premature/stray exposure, you get haze. It will decrease the clarity of the print.
