To address an open bite with increased gingival show, it is recommended to refrain from using elastics if it is feasible. However, if elastics are necessary, you may consider utilizing 5/16" medium-sized elastics. I hope this helps.

When do you recommend the use of class 2 or class 3 elastics.. Can it be used on light alignment wires like NITI or should it be given on more stiffer wires.?

Class 2 or Class 3 elastics are usually recommended during the space closure or bite correction phase and should ideally be used with stiffer wires like stainless steel or rectangular NiTi for better control. However, they can sometimes be used early in treatment with light alignment wires, but only with light forces to avoid unwanted side effects like tipping or excessive wire deflection.

Do we have to ligate upper anteriors together whenever we are using class 2 elastics? what is the reason for that? thank you!

Not always... however if you run the elastics without the undertie or power chain or overtie - you may get a space mesial to the canine. if that is your intention, then don't lock them together. the canine should always be ligated correctly (ss ligation) to prevent rotation.
