    A pretty great experience. The first one was an encouraging success, and the second one was an encouraging failure. Of course there are still good aspects of the second self-portrait, it looks like a cartoon caricature of sorts, but there are still parts I shaped well. I think I failed early on in the piece where I didn't get the basic shapes and structure down correctly. It wasn't until far too late in the piece that I realized everything was really "off". So in the future I need to step back and assess more often.

    Great video Peter! I actually love both of the drawings. Your first was closer to being proportionally accurate , but the second has lots of character and is still a great drawing.
    I would have called the video, 'Peter Draws Peter Draws!' My top tip: keep doing what you're doing

    I love to watch you draw, but more so I love to watch you goof around. It makes me feel less alone in my own weirdness. Like, I came for the art, I stayed for the personality.

    The talk was indeed a tiny little bit creepy, but I don't think the dude that watched you realized that. Your work looks great as always, Peter. It's nice to see you trying new stuff, about the tips I think it's a back and forth thing you look at them, then add your thing to it and repeat till it feels right

    I actually like the second one. The first one was going great but you lost what was an amazing likeness with a bit of overwork towards the end, whereas the second one, though not as anatomically correct, reads like a viable stylisation and I really enjoyed it! It had a panache about it the first one lacked for my taste anyway, the first one looked like an exercise, the second one really struck me as a quite remarkable portrait and I just love it. And you, as always. Long time listener and all that :-xx

    You captured the expression and character in the first one perfectly, even with some things out of proportion it is still very recognizable. These turned out amazing. Great work, Peter. I know how it feels to not like your own portraits initially, but your use of cross hatching and tones in the shading give such depth and life to your piece. I really like how you capture the highlights in areas like your ear and eyes. As well as the way you interpret hair is very cool, has a certian flow and chaos, in a good way. Thanks for always making videos that inspire me to make art!! ❤❤🎉

    Do you know the artist Thomas Fluharty? He's one of my favorite portrait/caricature artists. He does the "blind contour" technique. That's something that I wanna get better at. It seems relatively easy to do, but really hard to master. Capturing the likeness is pretty tough, while also pushing and pulling proportions.

    When it comes to drawing anything, remember it's okay to use your eraser! I remember when I was learning back then, I tried to avoid using my eraser by trying to perfect the sketch the first time. It's OK to make the drawing messy. You can go back and fix it.

    Can you do a self portrait made of "random" lines that have more to do with eachother than the structure of your face? Like, make a huge "mess" of lines and art and then form them into a visible head structure, eyes, etc. Kind of like drawing with dots but instead of progressively making the picture more detailed you are trying to "erase" using more lines to form the portrait out of something. #randomdrawingidea

    Nice! Why wouldn't you draw from a photo?

    • @BeardedBarley1
      @BeardedBarley1 5 місяців тому

      Drawing pictures from real life models is sooooooo much better. There is no interpreting what you are seeing in a photo. There is just real life. And the depth and the movement brings the drawing to life. If you can get someone to sit still for you for a while, you should really try it. The difference is truly amazing. But it might help him to take a photo of himself and place it next to his image in the mirror. For some reason, when people see themselves in a mirror rather than a picture, the focus changes. So the proportions turn out a little better. A person may more likely get an accurate depiction of oneself when the two are used rather than when only one is used. It’s actually true with any subject. That’s why so many commissioned artists ask for multiple photos of the subjects they are going to draw or paint or sculpt. They get more of a feel for their subjects that way.

    🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
    I dunno, Door to door internet service? Then he watched you thru the window?
    Now I've seen the movie, As Good As It Gets, and I'd get a friggen doorbell camera and one of the mats or strips that trips a sensor even if they don't ring the doorbell. It sounds like a dude casing your neighborhood and going door to door to see who is the easiest target. I'd ask for his card and then call the cops to see if they have had any scam artists or burglaries recently as it is the Holiday Season.
    Nothing about that seems right and if he was looking behind you to see what gaming systems tvs and other things you have that's worthwhile to him while you had your front door open that's a big red majestically waving 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩of a situation.
    Even if it wasn't a dude and it was a female or any other preferred personal pronoun affiliated scam artist or theif. It's usually an opportunity thing but if he's casing the places like the burglars from Home Alone, remember you can't boobie trap your house,(cause that's somehow actually illegal, don't ask me why or how or in what circumstance but someone told me it was once and Im not sure if that applies to all boobie traps or just deadly ones cause fly paper sticks to everything and a theif running down the street with his new fly paper wig would be a pretty good description to be able to give the cops in my opinion then again Im short and I can duck🤷‍♀️) but you can take steps to ensure your personal security. And this is a case where even an ounce of protection could be worth a pound of cure, not just to you, but your neighbors as well.

    • @commentnocomment3246
      @commentnocomment3246 6 місяців тому

      And fly paper is one of those things you have to cut out of your hair and if you try to wash it out it just makes more of your hair stick together and it's one of those things that really sucks so even putting them up is something you have to do with finesse cause thumb tacks actually come out of the material you stick them into pretty easy. So be careful if do you go that route cause if they get stuck close to the root or scalp area of your hair you're gonna end up with a bald spot where you had to cut it out until the regrowth gets long enough to blend it back in.
      Same if it gets stuck to your clothing and leaves the glue on like a raised collar or whatever cause it can spread to other things and stick them to you and that's a crappy situation as well.

      @yugdails 6 місяців тому

      Guy works for a company and is working in Peters neighborhood right now and saw Peter drawing the night before and said himself he didn’t want to bother him. You can make up as many scenarios as you want but honestly I don’t think we are gonna hear about Peter getting robbed by this random salesman who was literally on the job.

    • @commentnocomment3246
      @commentnocomment3246 6 місяців тому

      As long as he checked, two nights in a row, though? And feigning the I hate to bother you thing is like the easiest method that scam artists use to give the appearance the person they are trying to get something from the upper hand in the communications or encounter. Home invasions and thefts happen every day, especially around the holidays, when dishonest people think the occupant is gonna be out of town. BUT people have even been known to impersonate actual law enforcement at several levels and go door to door asking questions and being invited in, and with it being the holiday season people stealing packages from doorsteps isn't uncommon either let alone gifts wrapped that they see piled under a tree or what have you, and there was also someone who got scammed just the other day regarding legal services to represent someone else in their family which exceeded the $20,000.00 range but that happens with people impersonating other peoples family members too. So I guess it must just depend on the area you are in and there is also apparently a correlation with trusting people and the number of scam artists and thieves that flock to them and their areas, which can also happen in groups.
      Kinda like the opening of Bedazzled when they go thru the cities of the world deciding which ones are too high on the difficulty level to be able to infiltrate and corrupt verses the ones that are far too easy. The overall logic there isn't wrong however and you can see it applied even in marketing campaigns in certain areas logistically as to which people are more likely to purchase a product based on the wording and visual aspects of design used in the ads or product branding, (which conartists, people in the entertainment industry, sales people,and even politicians use everyday so that they give off the ambiance they want in order to get the reaction they deem desirable or needed from their surroundings and people they encounter) and one is just usually more honest than the other but they can all have their shades of dishonestly incorporated into them even if the advertising itself is honest or that's just actually how they really are and not a product of a conartist trying to take your money or whatever happens to be valuable to you.
      That one movie with Stockard Channing, Will Smith, and Donald Sutherland Six Degrees of Separation WAS actually based on the true story of the conman David Hampton and so there are multiple levels and scales to which people are taken in: Romantically, Monetarily, Emotionally, etc., and these mix and intermingle as well even in your subconscious selection of friend groups and reasons for liking or disliking something, unfortunately you can't take issue when you waste a bunch of time on someone just to find out they didn't care about you at all and just wanted to crush you after they had gotten what use they could from you, but it is what it is.
      People are what they are, and some of them really suck. Go figure.🤷‍♀️
