I bought a couple of weeks ago (though I live in the US now) a book of Panini sticker collections of 1978 to 1986. I remembered every Liverpool player from the album I bought as a seven year old! The 1978-79 album.
Olde Channel, Thanks for this Big Match episode well-compered as always by Brian Moore. Good match highlights with Manchester derby suprisingly relegated to third in match order. Fine performance though by Peter Taylor for Spurs!
Its a tragedy what football has become now. I dont find it exciting, as it bears no relation to how football was like this. A proper pitch with wear and tear over a season & a ball that allowed tackling due to its pace when hit, unlike the ping pong ball now.
I think most that lived through the 70s/80s as a boy watching football would agree. I wouldn't pay the exorbitant prices to watch football today and in fact wouldn't pay to watch it on tv with a subscription service either.
After losing the opening game of the 1977-78 season to newly promoted Notts Forest, who went on the win the title that season Everton went on a unbeaten run until the Christmas period to qualify for the old EUFA Cup. Just prior to his sacking in December 1976 Billy Bingham brought in Duncan McKenzie, and Bruce Rioch who made and immediate impact has shown here. Everton unluckily lost an FA Cup semi final and League Cup final replay in March April 1977. Bruce Rioch was a class player at all his clubs and what Everton would do with players like him, rather that some overseas players who seldom fit in.
Everything was miles better then especially music and the football going experience if not the game itself I know this is an old bastard opinion but it's true! Hardly anyone was on antidepressants and hardly anyone was fat. The world's gone to hell.
Why can I remember the names of so many of these players but not what I had for dinner last night!!!!

I loved the old wedding cake White Hart Lane. Now looks like a Dubai branch of IKEA.
Brian Kidd denied an obvious hat trick for Man City in a derby game there.
