Open Fortress and Team Fortress 2 Classic were taken down a while back, and were allowed back up. If I had to guess, it's a similar reason of reusing code/assets from the games like with OF and TF2C, or at the very least I hope that's the reason. They may be helping the projects behind the scenes to be "made proper." As much as it makes little sense for them, it's also just the corporate thing to do to protect their assets. OF and TF2C are up and running just fine still, even after being taken down by Valve. Most we can do is wait and see Okay so, quick edit. I just found out what happened to Portal 64. Turns out Valve asked the creator if he could try and rewrite it without using Nintendo's proprietary library, and instead the free N64 Standard Library, because they didn't wanna get in trouble with Nintendo for his project. He said he couldn't, and that he'll close the project instead so that neither of them get in trouble. Wasn't a DMCA, and they weren't trying to take down the project, just trying to have it in a state where it couldn't get either side into legal trouble with Nintendo
I think the last part proved Valve hasn't changed yet, both takedowns had a reason, tf2s2 was on s&box which isn't allowed to use Valve assets and it was still allowed by Garry on the platform despite them not being supposed to allow that, what happened to Portal 64 wasn't even a DMCA if what you said is true and it just sounds like Valve fears Nintendo
I saw on patreon a discussion about using libdragon instead He said he'd consider it if Valve agrees to allow him to do that since he wants to make sure it'll be worth the effort before making the big jump.

Valve is allowing AI generated content in games; HOWEVER, the store page must disclose what exactly is AI generated in detail, the AI content of said game cannot contain copyright infringement, only specific AI tools are allowed, and any game containing AI infringement content can be reported with a new report button. I believe Valve has always not had too much of a problem with AI but initially banned AI out of panic of potential legal issues since they had no written policies on it. I’m putting this out there because I’ve seen a few reddit posts and channels completely spreading misinformation about this to drum up drama.

Whenever a company removes something. It either means it’s happening or it’s canon. Like when meatcanyon’s rabbit season video was removed. It’s canonical. So this COULD mean that valve is making a S2 port. Or they’re becoming Nintendo
I hate to be the party pooper for everyone innocently thinking tf2 will get an official Valve port to s2 but someone has to say it You haven't had a proper major update in almost 2300 days You have like 2 people in total working on the game and only thing you get is community made maps, community made content, and minor map fixes No effort from Valve to even fix the already occurring issues Yet for some reason you think that they will take time to port the entire game AND deal with new bugs and exploits s2 will bring, they haven't even done that with cs2, that game actually has an active development team and it's in an absolutely awful state rn Valve hasn't cared at all about what happens to tf2 so far, so there is absolutely no reason for them to start caring all of a sudden and make these big changes, the fan made tf2 s2 project has been DMCA'd because they used tf2 assets in sandbox without permission, it's taken down for a good reason, not cuz Valve cares about making a port of their own
Wrong. Tf2 had the summer update, and the smissmas update. Which actually added some new content into the game (and allowed the usage of vscripts for servers). Even if valve’s employees are working on other projects, there’s no doubt they might make a source 2 port or sequel to team fortress (but are playing it careful).

Garry Newman also tweeted that S&Box (how TF2S2 was played) only had rights to the engine and NOT Valve's IPs so it wasn't surprising to him that this happened.
but then again, they took down Portal 64. I don’t think this really means Valve is working on some TF2, that or they’re working on a Portal too, which I doubt
It sucks tf2 source 2 got taken down in the way that it did, but tbh I think its for the better. They were pretty much making an alternative to tf2 and they were also going to open source it. Could have split up the community a bit with portions of the community wanting to play on tf2 source 2 instead, and imagine if anyone had and could use the source code of tf2, lots could make cool projects based off it sure, but then someone could make tf2 a alternative with cool features locked behind paywalls. It was a cool project and It sucks this is how the dev team got shut down, but idk if their project would have done a whole lot of good.
Wait what is this AI statement thing? I'm not against playing AI-generated games, but allowing to share these on Steam would mean one-man-armies flooding the store with random yet pro-looking stuff, discouraging real studios to commit to the gamble of spending their time on a game, against such unfair competition. AI also seemingly only takes from what already exists. While this happens to be the trend for AAA games as well, not only would there be a heck ton of games, but at the same time, none of them would push the medium any further. And I don't talk about all the space this trashware would take on Valve servers.
I really hope TF2 isnt forced into source 2 like CSGO was. I can’t play source 2 on my computer so it would kick a lot of players out of their favorite game.
the projects valve took down were either in risk from nintendo, or were taking tf2s assets. a port is not a mod, a port is directly taking a game n putting it somewhere else, so taking all the assets-
well they'd have to fix the issues themselves, all the while porting the game, and fixing errors from the ports. In short, it would be like remaking tf2 all over again...
@@me67galaxylife they managed to do it to csgo, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do the same to TF2. it funny how valve allow to use fan game like portal revolution black mesa and entropy zero 2 however they take down tf2 source 2 because they already said valve still never care tf2
They have guidelines for AI games, so at least there’s that. The portal64 was taken down by the dev after valve approached them and stated that they shouldn’t use Nintendo’s assets/library, to which the dev refused/stated that they couldn’t. As for the source2 port, from my understanding, someone was porting it using/to S&Box, which only had legal access to use the source2 engine. Apparently, Valve’s terms of service state that you can’t use their assets (unless you’re modding one of their games). Someone said that the stuff they were porting was from leaks/source-code leaks, though I don’t think there’s been any confirmation of this, but it’d make sense. Someone also said that valve must’ve hired a new legal team, which is why they’re cracking down on a lot of these. One person in these comments claimed they got copyright strikes for having (a) video(s) playing through a mod that apparently used assets from leaks. I’d say something’s up with the people handling Valve’s business and legal side.

watching the outrage on this one been great tbh “why is volvo taking down my heckin modders, they're just wholesale taking Valve's assets and porting them to S&box, a sandbox game by a third party with an explicit do NOT port Valve assets to our game line in their Terms of Service. I just don't get why they'd do this???” Like the terms of service of the thing they used literally said dont use valve things 😂
tbf i can see why they'd take down the portal port, they probably just wanted to avoid issues with nintendo like what they did with dolphin on steam
Whenever a company removes something. It either means it’s happening or it’s canon. Like when meatcanyon’s rabbit season video was removed. It’s canonical. So this COULD mean that valve is making a S2 port. Or they’re becoming Nintendo
I hate to be the party pooper for everyone innocently thinking tf2 will get an official Valve port to s2 but someone has to say it
You haven't had a proper major update in almost 2300 days
You have like 2 people in total working on the game and only thing you get is community made maps, community made content, and minor map fixes
No effort from Valve to even fix the already occurring issues
Yet for some reason you think that they will take time to port the entire game AND deal with new bugs and exploits s2 will bring, they haven't even done that with cs2, that game actually has an active development team and it's in an absolutely awful state rn
Valve hasn't cared at all about what happens to tf2 so far, so there is absolutely no reason for them to start caring all of a sudden and make these big changes, the fan made tf2 s2 project has been DMCA'd because they used tf2 assets in sandbox without permission, it's taken down for a good reason, not cuz Valve cares about making a port of their own
Wrong.
Tf2 had the summer update, and the smissmas update. Which actually added some new content into the game (and allowed the usage of vscripts for servers).
Even if valve’s employees are working on other projects, there’s no doubt they might make a source 2 port or sequel to team fortress (but are playing it careful).

I forgot to mention the zombie gamemode they added during the Halloween update.
@@Dr.Oofers you mean COMMUNITY created gamemodes that they simply shipped into officials, ones that you already had access to thru the community server browser?
I think the reasoning for the take down was that the team was accepting funds and donations like patron
They took it down because they want to make their TF2 casino run. Money, money, money, ...
I legit either a. Some CFO did some bad stuff and only recently joined in 2024. b. they had a new bot for youtube and it just went crazy. c. Valve closed the projects so they could talk to them personally about making them official.
Sadly the silence is deafening, hopefully all will be revealed in time and even more hopeful, it's not valve's turn to go bad like a lot of companies seem to do these days...
Im not 100 percent sure the Portal N64 take down was entirely Valve
Didn't they took down Open Fortress and TF2 Classic a few years ago too? I know those projects came back but still
what scout reanimation pack is he using?
My guess is that they took it down cos they were thinking about doing a source 2 port, but then like an hour later they were like naw let's drop this and do something else without allowing the original creators to re upload the prefect. Either that or they got a new legal team that's taking stuff super seriously in regards to fan projects and the like
The TF2 item server has been down 3 day now.
remember when valve said somthing along the lines "we hear you tf2" or some shit and the 2 years passed without a major update
they added some of the unusal effects in cs2 they might be working on something
I'm saddend by the work of the modders being taken down, but I'm hopeful for why they did it
They broke the TOS lmao, no biggie
I got copyright striked like a month ago I believe. My tf2 in vr video which was just contractors modded with tf2 guns and maps, I got striked for playing a game that the modders apparently stole assets from valve, and my video got removed just because I recorded the game. I don’t get how they can just do that.
I will say on the AI thing.
Valve just didn't know about the legality of ai generated game originally, and wanted to avoid getting into legal trouble
Omg Freddy’s back
Strange things are happing to my team
name of that scout overhaul? it looks sick as fuck if they actually planning to release tf2 in source 2 im really hoping the guys they dmca atleast get some kind of reward because imagine everyone praise the oficial source 2 but the people who wanted to do it just get forgotten and wasted their time and life
If they make TF2 only source 2 im gonna get really mad because i cant run source 2 on my crappy computer.
Also we are stuck to stock for some reason
They took down TF2S2 because it imported TF2 assets into S2, which violates valve's IP
Garry Newman also tweeted that S&Box (how TF2S2 was played) only had rights to the engine and NOT Valve's IPs so it wasn't surprising to him that this happened.
this is a good thing valve is getting bad press
but then again, they took down Portal 64. I don’t think this really means Valve is working on some TF2, that or they’re working on a Portal too, which I doubt
oh Valve no, what happend. we can't no longer have load items "oh c'est pas bon signe"
yes, they will add those games to source 2
Man they even stopped the use of items crazy new feature am I right
It sucks tf2 source 2 got taken down in the way that it did, but tbh I think its for the better.
Not all players cannot play without items, saw yesterday One guy on entire server playing with kritzcrig
Valve pulled a Nintendo
soooo... anyone else haveing problems with the item servers being down for the past 3 days?
maybe this is why they haven't made any major updates to the game, (maybe) they are making a source 2 port?
There is no chance thats happening, it would be a miracle if that was the case.
Valve make me go grrrahhhh
loadout connection
If I had a nickel for everytime I heard VALVe pull a Nintendo, I'd have 3 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened thrice
I can’t play source 2 on my computer so it would kick a lot of players out of their favorite game.
if this happened then I think there would be two versions of TF2
@@Stalinum1 why would they? They took down CSGO when 2 came out
@@poorlydrawnwizard idk this is just my guess, maybe someday they will restore the item server and everything will be ok
the projects valve took down were either in risk from nintendo, or were taking tf2s assets.
a port is not a mod, a port is directly taking a game n putting it somewhere else, so taking all the assets-
Just hope they don’t come after the TF2 vr mod for contractors
Tf2 s2 in the works maybe?
"I does make me kind of think that valve is at least interested in doing with TF2"
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
correction: item servers are still down
valve had a drunk party and then did allat, you cant tell me all of these things were concious decisions
Yeah cause Copyright isn't a thing am i right?😒🙄
Let's be honest, porting tf2 to source 2 would fix a lot of issues and allow for the devs to fix what's wrong with more ease
well they'd have to fix the issues themselves, all the while porting the game, and fixing errors from the ports. In short, it would be like remaking tf2 all over again...
@@me67galaxylife they managed to do it to csgo, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do the same to TF2.
Also is cs2 they standardized grenade throws by making it a feature instead of a bind, this can be brought to TF2 to make something like trickstabs an actual mechanic acknowledged by the game.

I really hope this isn’t true moving forward I honestly like valve over any other gaming company because they were not this type of company to be so obnoxious like that.
Honestly 2024’s starting of with bad news after bad news after even worse news so far.
@@Roonie.. every single year started with bad news
Remember, Valve has absolutely no problem with mods and fan games. TF2S2 was NOT a mod but a full recreation using assets that they didn't have the rights to.
well no more dead ringer, amby and kunai spys so ig thats good
So they care enough to take down fan projects that could lose them money, but not enough to make sure a fucking server works?
The source 2 port was illegal
good. you deserve it
it funny how valve allow to use fan game like portal revolution black mesa and entropy zero 2 however they take down tf2 source 2 because they already said valve still never care tf2
it's not just about tf2s2. they also took down a portal 64 demake and are starting to allow AI games on steam.
something is wrong at valve.
Valve took down tf2 s2 because they took tf2 source code that was leaked, it is illegal and it logical for valve to do that.
this is tf2 if it was realesed in 2007 but whit no likin park
Just here to spread awareness but they also took down a tf2 vr port that was a nonprofit mod. It was the best vr game out there.
TF source 2 was also non profit.
1:02 i want to believe but that too much copium for me. also cs2 is a lesser game compared to csgo in terms of contents (in years that will not be a problem). also i believe that the s2 port even if it will be amazing for tf2 on many levels. i am too worried about the butchering of tf2 artstyle (talking on lighting and how were the models of tf2 mercs look wired in s2)
good
Valve is doing this without control from parent companies. This is such a weird thing, honestly. If valve turns bad, the AAA gamjng industry is over.
HOPIUM!!!
Valve stopped caring. They took down Portal 64 as well, I doubt they are going to port Portal on Nintendo 64
Portal 64 was less of a "don't make fan game pls" type of take down and more of a "We want to let you know that nintendo might take a big ol' pee on us for letting you use their proprietary stuff in the way you're using it, so maybe you could use the free stuff that you can use instead" type of take down
Cmon man Valve didn’t take down Portal 64 the creator did after Valve asked them to do so to avoid legal trouble with Nintendo! Stop spreading misinformation!
@@shagarumedic The creator took down Portal 64 because Valve told him = Valve took it down. It's the same thing, because if he wouldn't take it down they would still send him a DMCA
