I don't think Mary Lou was making fun of Nastia, specifically or at all. She just simply stating what she likes. Everyone has their preferences, some like the more graceful gymnasts and some like the more powerful ones. I love both aspects in a gymnast but I do tend to lean more towards the powerful ones just because, as Mary Lou put it, they're explosive.

yeah!!! Grace is very important in gymnastics. I mean, I like Sam a lot. I think her beam routine is awesome, but I love every Nastia's move because they are so beautifull.
I agree with Mary Lou about power. Gymnasts like Sam, Shawn and Jordyn are what I like to see because I find them more interesting to watch than girls like Nastia. Nastia is great, but I find the "ballet" gymnastics boring because there is no power to it. I find the gymnasts who can to a double double on fx and a standing full on beam way more interesting than the girls who are all legs, flexibility and splits. Sure dance is important but I'd rather have explosive tumbling before elegant dance
nastia does not do a double layout on floor - all her tumbling is twisting, except for a double front. shawn and sam peszek both do a double double on fx.
Did I say Martha was special? I understood both her and the Chinese coach without reading the subtitles. Maybe we are more used to English spoken with an accent in Europe as there are 23 official languages in the EU, and around 230 languages in total spoken throughout Europe. ( I googled it just for fun to see how many there were). English happens to be my second language btw and this has nothing to do with 'being cultural' or not. Their accents aren't THAT bad I think, but that's just me.
You know, I actually just re-read my first comment and I actually mentioned the coach as well as Martha and questioning why he was subtitled too. I was simply annoyed that they subtitled that bit only because they obviously don't speak English without an accent. I don't understand everyone who speaks English with an accent. I never claimed I did.Why so angry and offensive? I LOVE NYC and all the diversity it has, just as I love London for the same reason. I never said I was more special.
elegance is only half the game, power is the other, the AA gold could have gone either way because Shawn was outdoing Nastia for a couple of years, i like artistry as much as the next person but people keep referring to it to try to sound smart, and Russians has won much since 92, no team gold for them
Pathetic! Do americans not understand english when it is spoken with an accent that isn't from the US? Martha and the coach are subtitled but not the rest of the program. I'd feel really offended if I was one of them. If it is for hard-of-hearing purposes maybe the whole show should be subtitled.

one of the best underrated gymnasts of all time.. she had too much competition .. Shawn, Nastia, Chellsie .... with them 3 she was never on the podium

Carly and Gabby did. Shawn was always beating Nastia until the Olympics. Shawn even won qualifications.
