Shawn did not 'defend' her all-around title at Beijing-because she has never won an Olympic All Around before. She was the reigning 2007 WORLD All-Around Champion-and no one can take that away from her. Sure-she did not defend her World title in 2009-but perhaps she'll be back after some time off.
i dont think she gets enough credit for being so eloquent. She expresses herself really well, and never uses any "uhhhs" or "you knows." Yea, shes probably super smart.

Shawn is a national teaasure. She has no sense of her greatness and neither do her parents. They are just "folk" with a teenage daughter who does gymnastics. Her purity and innocence just add to her appeal and propel her out of the bounds of "just cute" to incredibly adoreable!!!! And THAT is why Shawn is who she is..... There are no tattoos, gang gestures, or any of the other "rot" that corrupt so many young women. This is the sweet girl next door who is also an OLYMPIC CHAMPION!!

sadly, she injured her knee when she went skiing, and retired :(, but she couldve made it into the olympics in 2012 if she hadnt injured herself.
