The Awful Truth, Arsenic And Old Lace, Charade, It's A Wonderful Life, Bringing Up Baby, and White Christmas are some my favorite movies of all time! I saw Invasion of the Body Snatchers when I was a young teen and it still haunts me today!
Ah yes, Mae West and her famous lines "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you happy to see me" or "I used to be Snow White, but I drifted". Many people don't know she wrote her own scripts.
Miss West was a true genius. I admire, too, how secure she was in being herself. Here she was, in what was supposed to be a "moral" ( I know - William Hays...) society but since I was brought up SO strictly and so negatively, I'm a mess in many ways and she just seemed to be so happy with herself.
I love watching bnw movies coz it has more substance n an enigmatic plot n no vulgarity !!!!! Thanks somuch for xharing this video on yt keep it coming 😅😅😅😅😅
All very worthy films. But ARE WE FOREVER DOOMED now, to being subjected to clumsy AI narrators on videos like this? Repetitive language, mispronunciations, and odd cadences make these videos a real challenge to get through, regardless of the content. SOMEONE put this video together, so GET a living person to narrate it!!!
None of these films are underrated. They're all famous and highly regarded. And why don't you use your own voice instead of a canned voice that pronounces names wrong?
Mildred Pierce, It Happened One Night, She Done Him Wrong, underrated???? Some of the best films ever made in my opinion including the original 1939 version of The Women!!!!
I agree with Some of the "Underrated" choices like Arsenic and Old Lace and Indiscreet...but Mildred Pierce and It Happened One Night remain Universally celebrated / critically acclaimed films that have "Transcended" their period. They are University Film Studies courses "Staples" on Film Noir, Screwball Comedy, and Film Censorship discussion. Remember the Night fell into some obscurity but is being "rediscovered" again as the bone - fide Screwball - Christmas Classic that it is ! No disputes about Bringing Up Baby or Wizard of Oz.
Acclaimed movies such as Mildred Pierce and It Happened One Night may be studied in film classes and are familiar to older audiences with even a passing interest in or exposure to classic films. However, many younger people are completely oblivious to old films. You could say that virtually EVERY black & white film is underrated where that crowd is concerned, inasmuch as some of them outright refuse to watch them. I've observed that for many (though not all) young YT movie reactors, film history starts about 1990. Any film over 2 hours challenges their attention spans and elicits complaints. Even when they condescend to watch, say, color sci-fi or horror classics from the 70s or 80s, their first concern is often "whether the FX will hold up," not whether the cinematography, writing, directing, or acting are any good.
Interesting presentation. True that 60’s-and-after movies have allowed for more controversial topics…..the downside is that there are no more boundaries at all. Some call it “progress”, but it’s also made decency practically indecent.
Why show clips of the "colorized" versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and It's a Wonderful Life? I guess AI does not know these are popular movies to begin with, and originally filmed in B&W.
I've seen all but 3 or 4 of these but my absolute favorite, which isn't covered here, is The Women (the original and even the 1st remake, but the 2nd one with that whiney Meg was an absolute waste of film). Thanks for this list; I'll be keeping it for future reference. I love the old films.
@@catlover34fl Yup, that's the one I meant. Love that color insert of the fashion show. The 1st remake with June Allison is just as good, but with the men actually present.
The director the stars and the writers of Invasion of the Body Snatchers had NO idea they were writing a 'commentary on McCarthysim' all have openly said so. This is a critical fantasy.
You forgot "Thief" starring Ray Milland with not a single spoken word of dialogue start to finish. Also, "The Razors Edge" with Tyrone Power in his best role and Ann Baxter in her's. Herbert Marshall's narration is beautiful.
I strongly disagree with all your list of underated films I've seen them all some multiple times and they are to me some of the best films of all times.
Amazing that Cary Grant was in 5 of the 10 "Most Underrated Movies From Golden Age Of Hollywood"... Then again it may show why he sadly never Won an Oscar...
Yes. Because they didn't contain what was cited, they were 'more' wholesome. Your remark was inane. It's like saying 'because they couldn't show gore, they were less gory.' But they were only less gory because they couldn't show gore? Yeah, less gory. They couldn't show blood and bad language 'because, they were more 'wholesome.' Who wrote this?
Those were movies that you laugh with cry with and great acting skills those actors are surly missed none compare to what they brought to the silver screen now what we have is violence sex and nothing else i dont go to movies any more but i enjoy the old movies.
It's Michael Curtiz, pronounced "curteeze". Don't they ever edit these? I caught this the first time through and wondered how many would pick up on this. There have been some -- one even said, "Hire a human." I don't believe I will ever subscribe to a channel that makes this many errors.
You must have been a grant fan..lol should have included more Chapin,West in the underrated films, and could have put some under recognized excellent so call race films since black folks didn't get treated equally in Hollywood like my favorite pinky
Your list is ridiculous, why are you talking about good movies? The underrated films come from studios like PRC or Monogram or Eagle lion, Universal. None of these studios were known as big budget studios. Stop picking the usual classics.
Who exactly defines these as 'underrated' I wonder? Most of these are undisputed classics.
Wow, the number of Cary Grant films is surprising yet expected. I always rewatch Holiday (1938) each year during the holiday season.
The Awful Truth, Arsenic And Old Lace, Charade, It's A Wonderful Life, Bringing Up Baby, and White Christmas are some my favorite movies of all time! I saw Invasion of the Body Snatchers when I was a young teen and it still haunts me today!
"It Happened One Night" is one of my favourite movies! Colbert is so underrated, and I absolutely LOVE Gable!

Old films are much better than new ones. Because they were and are encouraging politeness and good manners and class among people in the world.
I still love "Christmas in Connecticut" and thought the whole cast was just wonderful and I still watch it even when it's shown during the summer.
I love watching bnw movies coz it has more substance n an enigmatic plot n no vulgarity !!!!! Thanks somuch for xharing this video on yt keep it coming 😅😅😅😅😅

The original The Women, 1939, is surprisingly modern and one of my absolute favorites.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a black and white movie not colorized as here.
Tell your cheesy AI narrator that Mildred Pierce’s daughter’s name is pronounced “VEE-da”, not “VAY-da”.
Sal min ay oh
Mildred Pierce, It Happened One Night, She Done Him Wrong, underrated???? Some of the best films ever made in my opinion including the original 1939 version of The Women!!!!
Silly AI voiceover you revealed yourself! It is director Micheal "Cur-teeze" not "Curtis." Hire a human being.
OK. I'll watch all of Cary Grant's movies.
Not a bad goal 😊! He was a very versatile guy; he could play comedy, drama, and everything in between-

Yes. It's a tough one.
It's a Wonderful Life is NOT underrated. It is on every single xmas
It was not listed in that category
Ava Gardner was at her most beautiful in The Killers.
Why show clips of the "colorized" versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and It's a Wonderful Life? I guess AI does not know these are popular movies to begin with, and originally filmed in B&W.
These are a lot of my All-X Favorite Movie's.
A movie that is overlooked that was nominated for best picture is test pilot I think it is often ignored

My favorite is the 1939 version of The Women. Hilarious and also touching at times. Never tire of watching the 1939 version.

Just watch Cary Grant movies and you will see most of them.

The Awful Truth is my favorite Comedy movie.
I visit Bell, Book and Candle often ❤️

Underrated means "not given enough recognition for its quality." The narrator is agreeing with you.
@@Clio-x9g oh OK I see what's meant now.
Amazing that Cary Grant was in 5 of the 10 "Most Underrated Movies From Golden Age Of Hollywood"... Then again it may show why he sadly never Won an Oscar...
Some of my fav movies here
The Holly and the Ivy is a wonderful film but it an English film, not from Hollywood.
C’est lamentable de montrer en couleur des films qui ont été tournés en noir et blanc comme le fantastique Invasion of the Body Snatchers !

I like Batchelor mother better with being overlooked

Check the box movies!
Swearing in movies has never been necessary for the plot. Swearing merely means the user isn't educated in their language
We have all but 9 of the movies listed here. Part of the reason is that we don't like MGM musicals.

1:30 Mae West, very mannish.
I always disliked Mae West: vulgar, superficial & cheap!👹👹
