An Bairille (Rocky Road to Dublin) - LYRICS + Translation
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лют 2018
- N.B. Because of the speed, repetitons are omitted (in the English lyrics). They would literally go:
"I would make my way to the two bottoms, the two bottoms,
I would make my way to the two bottoms of two barrels" (and so on)
Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh learnt the song "An Bairille" from the singing of "an Pound" (Seamus Beag Ó Luing), a great storyteller, raconteur, wit and Irish language exponent from Dún Chaoin/Dunquin (a Gaeltacht village in west County Kerry), who passed away in 1975
Live performance: • Julie Fowlis and Muire...
The second jig is "Boc Liath Nan Gobhar" (also know as "The Further, The Deeper")
Performed by: Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Julie Fowlis, Éamonn Doorley and Ross Martin

"Avoid women and drinks"
* PROCEEDS TO DRINK MULTIPLE ENTIRE BARRELS OF ALCOHOL *
Ocareening you say that like it is a problem.
twinlion b I mean, it's a bit counter-productive, wouldn't you say?
It's probably not the same person saying that
He is actually avoiding ¾ of what he said, because he's swallowing, not drinking
avoid woman when you drink lmao
FINALLY I CAN SING IT I SOUND LIKE A DRUNK PIG BUT I CAN SING IT
🤣🤣🤣
Baby steps
@@sienafinlayson478 💚Keep shining!💚
Well, the song is about drinking so... GOOD JOB!
I think that's the point!
...and we thought the English version was difficult to sing?
6 months later: I still cant sing this...my tongue/mouth cant keep up...
My brainhead can't even keep up...💚
@@MasterMichelleFL English version is easy
@@paddyoconnell4703 Yes, I love singing it. I'm STILL working on this... 😂💚
@@MasterMichelleFL a couple of attempts
And boom
Nailed it 😎
im already can sing the en8ver now im going to train this one no matter what time it took
I kinda have a strong feeling, that if anyone tried to do this and they WEREN’T irish or part irish, they’d have a stroke
so that's why I can sing it
Can't decide whether you mean singing it or drinking it....
Both
I have heard it many times before reading the lyrics and I think I can XDDD. Not Irish at all just passionate about Gaelic culture.
Good thing I'm Irish, it's much easier to sing after 3 pints trust me hahaha
Wow that is some fluent Irish skills
As someone who speaks Irish fluently, this is extremely hard to sing. Especially the "four barrells" verse.
@@isaac_aren Its even difficult to play on a banjo tofor some reason
@@dubhainoceanntabhail5262 It's in 9/8 time, maybe that's why?
My eyes fell off trying to read the subtitles
That's really impressive! No way I could learn this song without it sounding like a confused slur
Alcohol. It's what makes Ireland Ireland :D
@@vikingsailorboy then that makes Wisconsin Ireland too
That's piss poor advice, beautifully played and sung.
That made me laugh out loud, thank you :D
Actually, it is extremely based and wisdomous advice
The words look like so much to pronounce before you actually hear it and realise there are a lot of silent and combined letters...
My favorite version by far...
Irish doesn't really have silent letters. It just uses different combinations of letters to indicate different sounds, whereas some other languages like English use the same single letter to indicate a wide variety of sounds. This is why in Irish you can tell from the way a word is spelled how it is supposed to be pronounced but in English you need to learn the pronunciation and the spelling of a word separately.
@@jodofe4879 That's a very good point!
I understood 'seachain go deo na bearta seo' to mean 'always avoid this advice', which would explain why they proceed to drink barrels upon barrels all the way to the bottom!
so im already in love with irish culture and music and the rocky road to dublin by high king is my favorite of them all and this is has heen recommended to and now im like shiiiiiit i wanna live in Ireland...lot of love from Morocco 🇲🇦💜💙
High Kings are for tourists. I have heard much better version in pubs and by buskers on the street during Fleadh Cheoil. Maybe some day if you get a chance visit Ireland during Fleadh Cheoil its then you will see all the musical talent of Ireland from the young to the old.. Not just from Ireland either musicians come from all around the world to play on the streets and pubs..

This is actually easier than reading the lyrics in the video. 😅
@@anselmareich3549 I agree haha! Its the only way I have even a chance of keeping up lol
I can’t believe all that’s in just 48 seconds
I'm originally from Philadelphia. When I moved to Cìll Rónáin I learned this to fit in. I only got it down pat because my mother raised me fully fluent in Gaeilge .
this channel is really something special
George Constanza sad it doesn’t upload anymore
This song is the Irish version of hundred bottles of beer on the wall
I love this but MAN it’s hard to learn how to sing this
Keep at it, nothing beats a failure except a try.....
You will get there, this song is very fast anyway. I think the air to it is a slip jig.
Cathal Ó Diubháin You would be right, it is a slip jig, based off the 9/8ths time. Pretty distinctive, not many other pieces of music use that time signature.
Thanks very much.
Cathal Ó Diubháin No problem, I'm just glad my dance classes let me help answer! :)
My favorite version. It sounds so much better with a lady singing.
This is hands down my favorite UA-cam channel.
tried to listen to it on 0,5x speed to figure out how the lyrics match up to the melody, now the demon this lady summoned for me is helping me out
Lol
I could listen to that flute for hours and I still wouldn't get a head explosion💖💖
This is the music you can still hear in the pubs in south Ireland 💜
Wow ! Brilliant playing and singing !! GO Go Muireann !!
Thank you so much for these lyrics and translation! You're the best!
I swear this has got be my favorite channel on UA-cam
Awesome tin whistle!
Absolutely fantastic
Elves
This was a beautiful song.
I can manage alright up until it gets to the fourth barrel.. 'Chuirfinn ceithre thóin' srl is too much alliteration and too many syllables for my poor teanga.
In looooove 😍
So I have a playlist of songs like this and was singing along and before this one I went “never tried this before but time to mess up” and I actually did pretty well and didn’t get tongue tied too badly and I am proud of myself lol
Beautiful Song . Love is Song 🇮🇪
I just played that at 2x and it's legendarily intense. Lol love the song
Thanks for the laugh. 😂

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😅😅😅😅😅😅😅.O HOW I CAN SING AND DANCE WITH THE MUSIC TO MY SOUL AND YOURS😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I love this first of all and I couldn't pick up on some dialect but it sounds very familiar. Some sang before others heard!
I'm from America with Irish and English descendants. the culture, language, and people make me proud im irish. Eirinn go Brach!!
Hahahahahaa it's so fun to listen this
The words just slips from her tongue

figured, the Irish sounds so slippy
What a nice version of the song
It took me FOREVER - and I mean FOREVER - before I realized that this was to the tune of "The Rocky Road to Dublin". XD
The thing about Irish drinking songs… you have to be drunk to sing them 😂😂😂
I'll have you know that I can sing a fair few Irish songs while sober, so I think it's probably just anyone that isn't at least half Irish that has to be drunk to sing this sort of thing.
Guys. Help me. I AM ADDICTED!!!!!!!
God, this is so marvellous, but I can't even keep up with reading the English lyrics :D
Wow it’s a hundred bottles of beer on the wall cooooool
Me with my tin whistle: *blows* *pause* *blows* *pause* 「くそ………」
The fact that you're supposed to sing that while drunk
🙂

Пьянства беги тем более.

Следом до дна, до дна -

Ok, I have to say it sounds better in Irish than in English.
Lmao Avoid women and drinks always avoid such things 🤣. In all seriousness though Máire go raibh maith agat. These videos have been a huge help for me when I’m learning Irish ☘️
can you do Oran an tombaca that Ellen MacDonald sings?
Anyone know what the second tune is they play on the whistle?
"Boc Liath Nan Gobhar", it's in the description

This is much like rocky road to Dublin... the tune... I say...
I know this video is super old, and I doubt anyone who knows Irish will see this, but this is bothering me: doesn't cúig trigger lenition? Why don't the nouns in the cúig verse lenite?
As an Irish UA-camr I bid you good day, and am happy to share your appreciation of this beautiful song, masterfully sung, and accompanied by genius tin-whistling and guitar chord changes played by a percussive wizard! The word cúig doesn't soften or alter other words in gaelic so don't bother your head with that stuff! Oh, the song is called an baraile, meaning the barrel; Rocky Road to Dublin by The Dubliners is another mighty tune, I urge you to check it out if you dig this stuff. Slán (bye) a bhúachall (lad, or boy). Pronounced slawn a vookal.
@Robert Thomas thanks for your response. When I was learning numbers in Irish I learned that cúig triggers lenition of the following noun, so that's why I was confused. Thanks for correcting me. And yeah, I have been listening to a lot of Irish music because I want to learn irish (and also these songs are just plain good). Go raibh maith agait agus slán!
My bad this is maybe beautiful to me
Aileinn Duinn?
Excuse me, but... What is that language?🤷🏻♂️🤔
gailige/irish
Does the words make the song or the song make ??
Nani?
Irish is....so fast....
The thing about a language is that someone else understands what you are saying. Without that
