      I am not an expert but on another analysis video, the pacers were actually a bit too fast, and you can see a big gap between them and Hicham in first half of the race. But Hicham had the presence of mind to stay on the pace he was expecting from the pacers. I am not bashing the pacers, i just wanted to report what i learned from another source (could be wrong), and this takes nothing from the pacers as their job is very hard ... To mentally pace yourself to a speed to which you are not used is incredible.

    To put this in perspective,...he is essentially running four 56 second laps. I don't see this record ever being broken. Only 3 or 4 in the world can run 3:46 - 3:49....& no one has even run 3:45 for over 22 years.

    • @the-gn2zn
      @the-gn2zn 9 років тому +29

      DRUNKDONKEY100 Hey Einstein.......the record has stood for 16 and a half years with the closest person ever running a 3:46. 3 seconds at that speed is equivalent to 30 feet. Take the fastest miler in the world right now (3:46) and Hicham's record would beat him by 30 feet. Sorry drunk donkey, but 3:43.13 will never be broken. But you can still dream.

    • @the-gn2zn
      @the-gn2zn 9 років тому +25

      ***** Do you realize that since 1980 only 5 men have run under 3:48 besides Guerrouj? I understand that records are meant to be broken but not this one. Ponder this......IF, you could find someone who could run a 3:48,..Guerrouj would have beaten him by 50 feet. This isn't 10,000 meters or 5,000 meters where you can shave seconds off, this is full bore speed for 1609 meters. If 3:43.13 is ever broken, get in touch with me & I will personally send you $100.

    • @the-gn2zn
      @the-gn2zn 9 років тому +17

      ***** I fully understand what you mean, but at some point, the record for whatever distance will be unbreakable as it will reach the maximum for human potential. SOMEONE will eventually have to hold the record forever. Like in the summer Olympics, world records are rarely seen anymore (relays excluded). The ONLY person in history to even come close to 3:43.13 is Noureddine Morceli's 3:44.39 in 1993, making him OVER a second slower. That's the reason I say it will stand forever because literally no one in history has even come close.

    • @christopherwhite7502
      @christopherwhite7502 9 років тому +20

      +the777 It was once thought that nobody could ever beat 4:00 in the mile. Once one man did, hundreds were able in the space of decades. Even a high school kid has broken it. Very short-sighted to say "never." Take nothing away from the incredible accomplishment. That guy challenging from the second-place condition did El Guerrouj a heck of a favor. It may take another decade but it will certainly fall, just like the 2:00 marathon will be broken.

    • @the-gn2zn
      @the-gn2zn 9 років тому +7

      Christopher White No one has even run 3:45 in 16 years. IF someone could even run a 3:45 , at the speed he was running (3:43.13), that's 2 seconds faster. He would beat them by 20 feet. FEET!!! This is NOT a distance were you can shave much time off like a marathon, 10k, 5k, etc.. This is all out (sprinting) for 4 laps. He is coming through the 800m mark faster than any high schoolers can even run the 800m in. You will always have people saying that records can be broken, but at some point SOMEONE will have to hold the record forever. This is that record.

    Ran the mile at a high school distric meet. (1991) Fell at the start and had to make up 50 meters on the leaders. By last lap started kicking last 300 m to pull in first with 200 meters to go. Locked up with 20 m left and lost by seconds. Still humbled by the experience. This feat by EL G is just astonishing! Great Inspiration to never give up and you' ll probably never see this happen again in your lifetime.

      Noah Ngeny played Volleyball during his school years and didn't take up running until he was 17 yr. old in 1996 and by the time he was 18 yr.old in 1997, he set the World Jr. Records for the mile in 3:50.4 and 3:32 for the 1500 m. And in 1999 he ran 3:43.4 in the mile & 3:27 in the 1500 m at the age of 20. And he beat
      El Guerroui in the 2000 Olympics in the 1500 m and his time of 3:32.1 broke Seb Coe's Olympic 1500 meter record. Not too shabby for a guy that didn't take up running until he was 17. Noah's rapid progression over a 4 year period in which he had never run competitively, to winning a Gold Medal in the Olympics and running the 2nd fastest mile time of All-time, points to EPO!
