I think that the more laid back drums in the later albums isn't "worse" drumming. I think it just shows that Helders is a good team player because he holds back when the song demands it, and that's very important when you're in a group. There's no one-upmanship, just synergy.

Steelb 0907 - you need to listen to their debut album and humbug more. they're both a million times better than AM, but am not implying that AM is bad, just average
@@lewisjones284 I'd say that the drum part itself is pretty easy, the hard part is playing it like Matt does on the album. It's like playing a Beatles song, the beat itself is pretty simple, what's hard is mimiquing the feel Ringo (and Matt, for that matter) gives on the drumset
Wow. I'm a guitarist & I've never really appreciated drummers until I watched this video. As an Arctic Monkeys fan I really enjoyed this video & now I want to buy a drum kit & start learning !
that transition from Star Treatment into I Wanna Be Yours gave me the chills. It’s crazy how different Alex sounds now compared to in AM, not to mention how different the music itself is.
Matt Helders didn’t even play drums on “Batphone”. Other than a synth and baritone guitar, Alex Turner played all of the instruments. There are many other songs on the new album where other drummers are credited. It’s really too bad since I love Matt Helders, but I guess his style didn’t fit with a lot of the new slower songs.
i mean yeah, he composed most of the album by himself because they were getting dried up in ideas until someone gifted Alex the piano and his mind started working again, they eventually got together to record it all but Matt does play the drums on the song, its just that he didnt compose them.
I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE BACK DUUUUUUDE !! THAT'S AWESOME! You're one of my fav drummers. I always comeback to ur channel to watch QOTSA's and AM's chronology.
What a great video! You did good taking the exact part of each song to make a super drum chronology cover as you started with the first seconds of the last song and ended with the last seconds of the first song. You can hear how the song become more "alive". Matt is such a great drumer.
I don't know much about the drums as an instrument, but I always watch videos of people playing them because it is really crazy the amount of skill it takes to play it and make it sound good. From my humble and quite ignorant perspective, this video is great and you're a very good drummer. Great vid!
God damn, absolutely flawless again. Great production quality on this too. Keep up the good work, I hope this gets the recognition it deserves because that is no easy feat!
Blah Blah listen to tool. Then you’ll get the satisfying feeling of listening to a god play drums and you can learn a shit ton of insane bass lines. Just a recommendation.
I remember when Matt Helders was an AGILE BEAST and the music of this band was improved by his talent. Now everything I hear is Alex's ego. They used to be my favourite band but now I just like them. Sorry if I offend someone but that's my opinion. I perfectly understood your point by doing this video on reverse chronology.

Jamie Warren how tight do you put ur ride/crash cymbal
Great vid
James Nuttall Not really tight at all man! Just keep the screw barely touching the felt. Thanks for watching :)
Jamie Warren just wanted to come back to say that I’m making one of of my own because u inspired me
The right way tho
Impressed with Only Ones Who Know, that one’s notoriously difficult
I think it’s one of their better songs
It’s one of my favourites, different pace to a lot of the others but it always sounds great

FUCK YES
4:38 - voice transition from mature man to squeaky fun teen is phenomenal and emotional, wow
Mature man for a teenager finishing his adolescence
5:45 And then for a teen discovering new horizons
am i the only one on this earth who loved tranquillity base?
No
I think there are one or two others
Probably not even though I fucking hate it
Still play on my car for midnight drive though, relaxes my mind and body
No tranquility base is a good album it will grow on real arctic fans, it’s like humbug for me
Smart. You reversed it because it only gets better this way
Brandon Hambright very good
hah
God Damn
Absolutely
Not really
once again, love the cover for Only Ones Who Know mate!
Jasper Brokaw Haha thanks! Maybe I should do an Only Ones Who Know cover in full? 😂
Jamie Warren I would definitely watch it!
Brilliant! I think Humbug was his peak but is hard to tell, Matt is such a great drummer
moodforaday 1969 he features in Iggy Pop’s “Post pop depression”. Listen to that album, top drumming.
Personally, i think favourite last nightmare was the best album, followed by AM. Just saying

not lia tuazon I do. Im not saying any of their stuff is bad, just personally think favourite worst nightmare is one of the better ones
moodforaday 1969 favorite worst nightmare was beautiful as well
Awesome! Do you think you could do Pretty Visitors as a whole? I think that's Matt's best work, what do you think?
Ok, if this comment gets 100 likes I will do a full Pretty Visitors cover!
Please make full cover for other songs, you are a pretty badass drummer. !!
Jamie Warren Time for preparation man :)
Ok, that went faster than expected! I will see if can get that recorded this week!
video or it didn't happen :p
Wow, the way he played Brianstorm is impressive
The transition from Red Light to Riot Van is amazing
you can see the increase in energy and passion with each album
pablo binch calvo yeahh
Nah, Matt's drums at TBHC are surprisingly hard. Those jazzy patterns might not be flashy, but they sure are masterful
Elvis Isn't Dead as a drummer I can say they’re pretty easy

This video just show us how Matt works less each new album ;c
I don’t think it’s his fault tho
Hahah
alex haha
i mean its not as fast as before but the rithyms of the new songs are not exactly easy either
Nothing wrong with that. Just different style. U gotta play for the song
This is amazing ! How is it even possible to have a memory like that ???!!!
Because most of this is in 4/4 and because matt helders uses the same pattern for everything

I can’t decide which album is the best and honestly it could be any of them
I love how smooth he switches drum beat for each song
i cant think of a more perfect song to end a drum chronology on that The View From The Afternoon.
Waiting for AM7 just to see your amazing job again
This makes me want to learn how to play the drums
You totally should start!
HOW CAN YOU PLAY ONLY ONES WHO KNOW? FCK YOU'RE AMAZING!!!!!!!
matt138 lol pffff I learned that song 2 days before I was born

I think Humbug was the peak of Matt’s drumming. Great video, mate!
Never seen someone look so exited playing 4 out of 5
Love the fact that this was the first thing on my recommended!
Do you know how excited I got when I saw this???
This video shows how good each album is, so many good songs! Good job creating this.
Matt rules
This is amazing! But they’ve really done matt wrong in the last album
Drums are not about playing fast. Keeping the tempo in slow songs tends to be even harder. Also there are some great drums in this album too
Arthur of course it is not him giving everything. But it is what I would have expected for him to do in this kind of songs.
No one is bigger than the band 🤷🏻♂️ not even the members
