Hi enjoyed your video, I had a classic for 7 years and loved it, I traded it in for a P38 and have now had that for 9 years. Don't waste your money lowering it, as it wont be any better on motorways than it is now. It is designed to be flexible and has fantastic wheel articulation. My Standard height classic was all over the road on motorways, this was the main reason i swopped it for a P38.Just enjoy it on and off road but avoid motorways.
I bought a diesel, as we were told by the government to do !!! But i'm pleased i did as the running costs are now far less. P38s are a lovely ride on all terrain (motorways included) There are plenty for sale at very cheap prices. BUT GET FULL SERVICE HISTORY.
Nice Car. Don't worry about the sill strips, they look fine. you did a good job with them. I 've had loads of Rangey's .The only reason i don't have one now is FUEL !!!!!!!!!!!! Forget the price of the car + repairs, that is Pennies compared to a years fuel for 20,000 miles FRIGHTENING !! At 130,000 miles, they have used 10,000 Gallons of fuel @ £5.50 per gallon = £55,0000. it was only £28,000 New ! Convert to LPG. Underslung tanks if using mostly on road. It is possible to Remove the petrol tank completely and go 100% LPG. Zero Petrol. The internals of the engine will last longer & stay Very clean. Far less carbon build up. Same thing happened to me. Previous owner sold me the car then told me afterwards that he lost the original keys. Had to chisel out the twist off bolts, and reverse build the key barrel and cut new keys. So now I annoyingly have 2 keys (1 for ignition, and the other for doors).
Yes that's the one. Two keys after that. Doors and ignition. I had to grind them bolts off. Was really careful not to hit any wires. Was so tight in there! Annoying!! Thanks for comment
Nice, Alfas and Range Rovers.. bucket list for everyone. I have had four classics, 2 door and three P38's. Wished I hadn't sold my last RR, currently drive an ML270 and its not the same. Funnily enough I also have a 944 plus a few others, apple never drops far from the tree. Fuel never bothered me as they were always a second car and I as I used to say to doubters.. "if you know of a 4x4 which can take four heavily armed men across a ploughed field whilst towing a 5 tonne trailer and returning 50mpg, I will have one" it is what it is, a great off roader... diesel version didn't give much better return until the 200tdi came a long but still only looking mid twenties in the real world. Might be worth doing a 200tdi conversion though buyers want original these days as the prices rise.
Yes could not agree more with the Alfa too!! Yes if I were to use it weekends only I think I would be ok. But she likes a drink! 2 doors are just lovely. And going one way in price ! Thanks a lot for comment. 👍
I would sell a kidney for another classic, very jealous, restored the two door and sold on, big mistake! It won't be long before you start looking for a P38, it happens once you get the bug, I spent years slagging them off until I took the plunge and had no regrets... later 4.0 or 2.5 diesel are OK but avoid 4.6 like the plague.. I had both, diesel was reasonable on fuel and quick in manual! L322 and it all goes down hill from there.
A good 200TDi will do 31 mpg overall. Over 100,000 miles. mine had a fuel book in the glove box, from new . every gallon was logged in the book. mpg at the bottom of the page. I bought it off A friend who bought it new. 1993 'K' 200Tdi Vogue Manual in met Trocadero red. I wish i never sold it !! it was ACE ! It wasn't as Quick as the TD5, but handled twice as good. I had a 200tdi Disco, bit agricultural compared to the 300tdi but it was good on fuel and reliable... have a few friends who have spend £'s on their 300tdi Defenders... bigger turbos.. chipping.. huge intercoolers.. etc.. etc.. still a two tonne tin can with the aerodynamics of a bus! Best to leave them alone.. though I have heard that fitting a snorkel improves the airflow on a diesel?
