- ,,,, a short 3 part, plus 1 follow up video,,, in this series on removing a couple of gib keys with broken off gibs,, this has to be done in order to adjust the side play or to repair broken or worn out parts,, so let's get started,, leave a comment, subscribe, pass it on, to be continued, the engine is a 1 1/2 hp, type m, McCormick-Deering built by the International Harvester Co,,, but this way of removing a broken key could be adapted to any one of the many other brands of hit and miss or throttle governor engines,,,
Whoa, that really is a tight one! I'll be really interested to see how you get it out, Sam! Thanks for showin' us.
That's one stuck gib! I was gonna say try a NF thread but that is not where it failed. Looking forward to the next installment! Thanks Sam
Just like a "cliff hanger" at the Saturday afternoon picture show !
Can our hero save the day and defeat the villain ?
You'll just have to come back tomorrow to find out.
Another good one Sam !
Thanks for the video mate.
Plenty of oil in the impact. Wow that's a tight one.
Gib on NCIS
Good stuff 4sure
Sam, have you tried to heat the area and apply wax? I have used this method very stuck block plugs and exhaust studs. Works well! Song of the day, anything by Pasty Cline.
Later
torch
we gonna nut up brother
yep works every time.
I watched all four chapters and really enjoyed your work Sam thank you. I notice that it is not your practice to soak the parts in penetrating oil overnight or just set up a light tap with a hammer to try to break the rust weld have you found over the years that these methods are simply not effective and that is the reason you do not do that
GettingSquaredAway ,,, thanks for the question,, and the answer is a little to long to type in as a comment answer so I will talk about it in an upcoming video (I am getting back to the 1920 engine in a few days),, but the quick answer is,, I have found long time or overnight soak with penetrating oil to be of very little help,,,
Tighter than a bull's behind in fly time!
If the flywheel is moving along the crankshaft can it do any harm on the far side from what we are watching! ie can it be destroying something behind the flywheel?
If it might be at risk of doing damage and you get something that will pull on the end of the flywheel to pull the gib key out?
My thoughts otherwise are possible soaking with penetrative oil for at least 12 hrs and then heat on the flywheel centre with your puller arrangement in place and under tension.
like
Bigger hammer or some C4
Put some heat on it.
S**T HAPPENS
