Is it possible they didn't have the full crew on Saturday? There wasn't supposed to be that much going on on Saturday. Practice and heat races with only a handful of cars on track at once. Maybe they had a smaller crew with more coming in to fill out the crew in Sunday that couldn't be brought in when nascar decided to do everything Saturday at the last minute.
Im just not prepared to put all the blame on Fox without considering that the schedule change could have contributed to their issues.

I made the same point Saturday and should have brought it up again here.
It's very possible FOX didn't have their full crew at the track. But I'll also argue that fans have made similar complaints about them for a couple years now.

@EricEstepp I keep hearing that, but I've honestly never had much to complain about with fox.
I have more of an issue with the second half figuring out where I can find practice, qualifying, the race, post race etc on USA, NBC, peacock, etc...

@johnhaas2523 you don't really need as many cameras or production crew to cover 6 or 8 cars at a time.

    • @EricAlexander-ry7ks

I'm old enough to remember when TV was free & commercials were just accepted & more or less appreciated. It wasn't until greed took that away & since I've had to pay for what we used to get for free (welcome to the 21st century) it is very frustrating. A couple of years ago I timed the race vs. commercials (including the "bought to you by" crap following the commercials) & commercials took up 1/5th of the broadcast. So I/we missed 100 miles of a 500 mile race. And we're paying for that?? 😒 I usually watch the broadcast live (but mute all commercials which I do for all TV. I refuse to accept the forced propaganda) but if I miss it for one reason or another (it rains & then it's on a channel/network I don't get) I will download a pirate version where someone has gone to the trouble of editing all commercials out & it is soooo nice to watch the race with no commercials. It's a couple days late but it's worth it not to have to watch the same commercial over & over & over. Years ago now there was a website called JustinTV that somehow got the broadcast in real time with no commercials or breaks. It seemed to be a feed right from "the truck." Those were the days my friends! 👍

I used to be a camera man for college football. Now I know it's a bit different and Im not sure what Fox tell's their camera men and women for motorsports but rule of thumb is to keep the shot wide and if anything the networks production staff can zoom in if necessary. However, I notice that for the past couple of years that the camera operators for both Fox and NBC are not keeping the shot wide enough which is why they are missing a lot of the action.

Ya shoulda been here when Jimmie Johnson was racing. There's no WAY the cameras could've gotten any tighter on that 48. Out of 4, crop out 2nd place, pass slow car at S/F line get flagstand to track angle; into 1 car goes high and 2nd cuts low - crop out 2nd and switch to infield up to middle of 1 & 2 angle. Cars side by side down backstretch, 48 falls back to 2nd, new leader, stay tight on 48 into turn 3; end of the lead lap car blows tire in front of new leader going in to 4, crop out both victim and leader, go to pit road up to turn 4 exit angle on 48 only. It was like that lap after lap after lap. Infuriating! Lots of racing going on, but the production trailer must've gotten steaks and potatoes grilled and served by Lowe's during late lunch at the track because it was like that every race.

I’m an advocate for running the clash in Mexico. I think they start with Mexico City next year at the local Mexico NASCAR track - Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. F1 races there on the road course, NASCAR Mexico races there and Xfinity has raced there in the past, it should be a quality facility, and it supports a few road course configurations and a 1-mile oval. If it is well received, they go back annually and move the event around the country. If it’s not a winner, then back to the drawing board. Also, it is closer to NC than LA is. They may need an extra travel day to deal with customs, but that can be worked out.

I feel that they should race there... as a POINTS race. Mexico has already shown NASCAR that they want racing Cup over there, and this is a prime opportunity to do so. They just need to remove TexARSE, or take away a 2nd date from any track that has one, and it's gold. The Clash feels like something domestic, to be held in US soil. Seeing the multiple configurations, they can put Xfinity on the oval, and Cup on the F1 layout just to spit in their faces after that Chicago scandal

About the broadcast, it's really weird what happened. I'm a technical director and producer of live events (including racing) for Brazilian television and looking at the clash footage I'm puzzled. I know that Nascar is developing a new remote broadcast center at NC and debuted it with the Daytona 24 hours a few weeks ago. And to me, what we saw during the clash is a sign that at least some of the broadcast was done remotely. The camera panning abruptly to the other side of the track is a sign that you lost communications with that operator and/or lost network connection with the equipment that cuts the cameras. That also can result on messy on time replays, that you can recover easier hours later, as we saw in social media later. I don't think those gigantic mistakes will happen again at Daytona, but I'm concerned that Nascar and the TV broadcaster may be cutting expenses way too agressively...

I chose 2 but thinking about it, I would like to see the All-Star race evolve. Keep the Clash as an experiment with heats and knockouts at new venues. Stop doing 3 year deals move it around. Then let’s bring back the shootout. This allows us to expand Daytona and make it at least SpeedWeek. Give it its pole winner qualification status and have someone sponsor it for a big payday for the teams/driver who wins it. Plus it’s a bonus Daytona practice for those that qualify for it.

I personally thing nascar should bring the clash to Rockingham. I think it’s a convenient opportunity to bring back another forgotten track. It has a shape that the other tracks don’t have and i think it could bring back some old fans.

My pick for a renewal of The Clash would be at El Dorado Speedway near the city of Chihuahua, Mexico. The NASCAR México Series was in my opinion a great addition to the weekend, so why not broaden NASCAR's market even more. The speedway itself needs renovation for both surface & facilities (lighting is already installed around the track). Track facilities need a huge overhaul though, as it looks very vacant at this point in time.

I might be in the minority here but IMO the Clash should stay in Los Angeles until Auto Club Speedway's renovation is finished. I know there's no clear timetable on when that will be completed, but the LA/SoCal area is too big of a car culture hotspot to not have some kind of NASCAR event there for a few more years. If the city or region doesn't have something, even if it's only for a few more years, interest might go way down. They have to consistently have something in or near LA. Once the Auto Club renovations are finished, then it would be cool to see them experiment with something somewhere else.

On top of the production (and i get having to move time slots around and whatnot) but i wish they wouldve just kept the basketball game slated after the race on FS2 and kept the Mexico series race on FS1. I feel like we could've had a proper post race/pre race part 2 and possibly more views on the race. Especially since the race already went over and was already about a quarter through the first half when the broadcast ended.

I’ve been complaining about the audio quality on NBC since they started carrying NASCAR. The back ground or ambient sound is always covering the voices in the booth, the pits and everywhere accept the commercials and you can bet you ass that production is perfect. The TV sound person must be watching the blinking lights on the mixer instead of listening to the quality of the master control. Mic checks done before the race with no cars running or on the track is one thing, fixing it must be beyond their abilities.
Fox video production is lacking and most of the cameras are remote ran from the truck by one or two people. The director could have been phoning it in from his girlfriend house.
After 40 years of radio production and engineering I went to work in a TV station. I ask why the audio was so bad. The engineers told me that’s the way television works, we have pictures, and it’s not the same as radio. I wish I’d had a camera on their millennial faces when I said
“What part do you not understand; television is still just radio with pictures.” ABC and CBS had a better NASCAR broadcast back in the day than what we get from FOX or NBC now. Oh, might be because boomers were in charge back in the day. Watch a race on radio. MRN and PRN still do a fine job.

It is pretty sad, LOL, like a first family VHS camcorder at a Nascar event in 2024.🤣I've seen some really good footage of local track racing that is a lot more in depth with better zooms and complete on track action from folks in the stands recording some good late model racing. Floracing has incredible short track and dirt track footage and has some really great camera angles in different camera spots, maybe Nascar needs to start watching some old school short track racing over there.

Problem is, NASCAR is not interested in returning to Rockingham at all, and if they did, they would just put dirt on it and call it a race like they did Bristol. North Wilkesboro only made it back because Dale Jr did 80% of the work by cleaning up the speedway for an iRacing scan for his private use, and that attracted attention of the fanbase at the time, and started a movement out of it

Fox needs to re-think how they approach directing their broadcast.
Commercials are happening at the same rate they always have. The actual broadcast is the true problem. They just miss so many things. I remember they came back from a break and they had a 15 second bumper that was slow motion of the cars going through one corner. But we could’ve gone to a wide of the track instead so we could see the action.
The racing seemed AWESOME. It’s a shame it couldn’t be appreciated. It reminded me on Gen 6 Martinsville almost.

The last two times Toyota changed their model, a veteran who started in the Gen 4 era drove a Toyota to a championship, both the first of their respective careers.
The last time Ford changed their model, a Toyota won the championship that year.
Both Toyota and Ford changed their models for 2024, and Denny Hamlin is the only Gen 4 veteran driving a Toyota without a title.
