Excited for the Bug Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke in LGPE. My first shiny in it was a Weedle in Viridian Forest, full odds, and before even getting halfway through Viridian Forest to get to Pewter City.
You know, the reason so many dragon trainers have non-dragon pokemon is because most of them are still part of the dragon egg group. It might be interesting to run with that, as a sort of breeder-locke run where you only use pokemon from a specific egg group.
I’m just letting everyone know, the Vanilla versions of the gen 2 games are impossible to nuzlocke with psychic types because the only possible encounter before falkner is Exeggcute through Headbutt trees
@@theepickyo Other than being pretty bad in the stat department, you run the risk of getting one with HP Ghost or Ground and they can run. That's even if you can get one before Falkner
@@workingdad813 Look at the spreadsheet and see that he marked it that it wasn't possible because of Level caps because he believes Totodile will be Level 10 before Falkner

Taking it upon yourself to try to complete that missing run spreadsheet is cool. Best of luck to you! Having to abide by a Level Cap and having to ration experience is a time and a half. Luckily Dratini was in the slow group, but I can definitely see this posing an issue for you in the future. Will be interesting to see how you handle it! Also, just in case it slipped your mind, Blizzard in Gen 1 has 90 accuracy which may be worth using over Ice Beam if you desire the extra power (less PP is a trade off too, but who needs that!) Good luck with the future runs!
Jrose11 has a series going where he does this mono-mon run with every single mon in the dex (even not allowing mid-run evolution) ... and so far there are only a few that are actually impossible due to the ghosts at pokemon tower
Legends Arceus with Ground should be a lot of fun considering the overpowered Ground types you have access to. I'd pen that one in fairly soon if someone else hasn't claimed it.
My man decided "Nah, let's solo this" and did it, absolute lad. Even got two 1/256 glitches in the E4, otherwise known as a Pokemon Stadium 1/256 glitch proc chance. Also uh, why's the Gold/Silver Dragon monolocke impossible? Just what about it makes it actually impossible compared to the explained cells for Fire and water going over the level cap? Asking because I don't remember if you ever explained that one specifically in a video.
Thats because wrap doesnt have the same effect in gen 2. The moves doesnt provide the opponent to move anymore in gen 2. So you are stuck with only wrap which deals 0 damage and thus need to rely on struggle but falkner has 2 pokemon that deals you decent damage. I m not even sure if you can beat the first trainer in the gym since he has a lvl 9 spearow with peck.
@@razorshell3049 You'd have to tweak the rules a bit because the only other dragon in gen 2 is Kingdra, so it may be possible if you allow Horsea/Seadra to be used.
@@Giosue3465 I mean, theoretically that is in the ruleset for monolockes. As long as a pokemon evolves into the used typing you can use their previous evolutions. Ok so I looked at the list….is A Nuzlocke of ORAS/RSE with Ice Types on Cartridge Even Possible? Most of the Encounters are either at Shoal Cave or DexNav
They really need to revamp more gen 1 and 2 pokemon with new evos. I can see some of them be good dragons or find some special typings to balance then out. Would make when kanto gets another remake more interesting
Great video! I saw the chart and since I really like monotype runs, I was looking into FR/LG because they're my favorite games. And uh... I'm pretty sure FR/LG Rock Hardcore Nuzlocke is mathematically impossible. First, your encounters. Oh, sorry. Encounter. Geodude. Geodude's moveset is... fine. It gets things like magnitude, rock throw, etc. So, it can deal damage, that's not the problem. What is a problem is the level cap. Before Misty, you have a cap of level 21. Even with exp from Staryu, you're only at level 22. At level 22, Water Pulse from Starmie is a guaranteed ohko. Even if you have 31 IVs, 252 Evs, and a SpD boosting nature, AND the Starmie gets the lowest possible damage roll, it still deals I think ~105% damage. So, uh, you're not tanking it. That leaves Geodude with one option: Outspeed and one-shot the Starmie. And then comes problem number 2. You also can't do that. Again, 31 IVs, 252 EVs, Spe boosting nature, even though the Starmie has no EVs or IVs, it's still faster, by a lot. Funny enough, if Geodude COULD actually hit the Starmie, they could win. All it would take is good luck with magnitude. Also, the next rock type after Geodude is Onix in Rock Tunnel, and... good luck getting there without going over level 21. It actually MIGHT be possible in Red and Blue, though. Why? Because gen 1 AI sucks. Starmie has Bubblebeam, but ALSO Water Gun. And while Bubblebeam is a guaranteed OHKO on Geodude, if you have High DVs, are at level 22 from the Staryu, and have a smidgeon of stat EXP, you have a CHANCE to not get one shot by Water Gun. Then, if you crit with Dig, which is your only viable move for this fight, good luck not overleveling, you WILL OHKO the Starmie if you have High DVs, good stat EXP etc. I'd love to see you prove me wrong though, if you could do either of these, that would be mind-blowing just because of Misty. tl;dr: Rock hard.
Perhaps you can add retroactive types for certain pokemon like for fairies pre Gen 6 just use the pokemon that become Fairy types in Gen 6 like Clefairy, Jigglypuff, etc
The most ridiculous Elite Four fight I had was a damageless bout with Caitlin using a Zoroark disguised as Emboar. Other than one miss with Thunder, she kept using Psychic the whole time
I am actually attempting a Dragon only run of Sword right now and the only hurdle was Ballonlea This is not a HC Nuzlock and I am allowing mons in the Dragon egg group So with that said, D. Dance Gyarados with Waterfall/Ice Fang was the saving grace I needed for Opal
What about Gen 1 runs with Steel, Dark, Fairy? Steel would be a run with Magnemite and Onix. Dark could use Eevee and Magikarp (since Mega Gyarados is part Dark). Fairy would do with Clefairy, Jigglypuff and Mr. Mime. If not feasible with such small encounter pool, counting the regional forms as well would add a handful of mons.
I'd argue it is possible in a vanilla copy if you trade your Starter for a freshly hatched Dratini from gen 2 IF you used ACE or RNG manipulations to give the Dratini the same OT/ID so it would always obey you instead of behaving like a traded Pokemon.
The real challenge was mostly surviving the early game. Once you got access to real moves and the power of Dragonite it was basically a free win as long as the RNG gods didn't curse you with a miss at a critical time or awful status luck.
Fun Fact: Outside of Unova, Lance is specifically a "Dragon trainer," not a Dragon *type* trainer. This is an important distinction, since not all dragons are Dragon-type, and not all Dragon-types are dragons, so that's why Lance usually uses non-Dragon type Pokemon
Do a "Fairy" only run in gen 3 where you only use mon that will be fairy in the future. I've looked into it a while back and you can get a team of around 5 including Gardevoir, Granbull, Clefable, Azumarill, Mawile
Yeah you can get Infernape, Machamp, Heracross, Medicham, and Lucario and if you can beat Yellow with only one encounter that should be a walk in the park. Especially with the Fire type only being beaten with only Infernape and Rapidash. I got fixated on this but great video keep it up
I suggested once and I'll suggest again: to make a dark-type run in FRLG, why not using the dark pokemon encounters you can find at Kanto on Johto games? Not only you can find Houndour and Murkrow at Route 7, and Eevee at Celadon, but you can also find Poochyena at Route 1, Seedot at Viridian Forest, Sableye and Absol in many caves, using Hoenn Sound, in HGSS. You could give yourself a new dark pokemon after each badge or each of these guys after going through the maps they appear.

If you’re already using quality of life hacks and others to get a new starter you may as well using one that stops giving you experience at the level caps so all the runs deemed impossible due to over-leveling are now possible
Steel type Emerald locke? Impossible? Hm. Imma try it anyway for my first recorded monotype run. The encounters are Aron, Magnemite, Skarmory, and Mawile- not a terrible team, though Beldum would have been nice, so what’s the problem? First encounter’s not until after the first gym in Aron, and then you just have to go beat Br…awly. With a steel/rock type. Ohhhhhh.
