I think I've commented before but I'm just watching again and you've nailed it Sam 👍 like your other nick Drake covers I can hear the other instruments in the background, weather it's my familiarity with the songs or your playing in m not sure, but it sounds sweet Sam, keep it up 👍🙏
It’s wonderful you hear the instruments between the notes. I think it is because you have listened to Nick Drake a lot. Often when I play I can hear them too which is very comforting. Robert Kirby’s arrangements are all comforting in many ways and I think this is why he had to bow out for Riverman which was perhaps too haunting even for him to capture. You are very kind and I remember your comments fondly. I really appreciate your vote of confidence and there are still so many Nick Drake tunes to bring you which will come at some point. Sorry it is taking a while.
Thank you, Natasha T. I appreciate it! I am glad you like this Nick Drake instrumental, it flows nicely. It was a particularly good day recording this one because it is one of favourites to play, often playing it repeatedly, and I remember things being very pleasant and peaceful, which so happened to be on a Sunday… Thank you for listening.
@@sam-lynch No, I thank you for playing and sharing. :D The atmosphere of this video is incredible and the fact, that it was on Sunday makes it even better!
Great man you nailed it, love your playing and thank you for posting this on UA-cam. This is such an underrated song and thanks to your video I could get a better perspective on how to play it well! Keep it up ❤
Thank you for saying that - it means a lot to me! I’ve been meaning to record a close-up version of it with my Sony camera, rather than the dodgy focus camera on my phone I was using during this take - at distance (so as to stay in focus). Alas I have not felt inspired. This piece has always stood out to me as one of Nick’s most underrated pieces of work, often referred to as ‘library music’.... Anyway, I wish you all the best with this piece. Take care.
Thank you. In the summer of 2004, I rented a room in a cottage and worked nearby doing bicycle repairs. By then I was obsessed with Nick Drake and everyday I would spend around four hours working out several of his songs, either holed up in the cottage or at work between jobs. This was made easier by Chris Healy having already scored most of Nick’s work, with those left unscored still with hints towards tunings and possible chord shapes. He published his workings online, which since then has become a masterwork. You can see his workings here nickdraketabs.co.uk I also came to know some alternative ideas at The Annual Nick Drake Gathering, by observing and speaking with musicians, which is where I met Chris Healy funnily enough. In 2018 I revisited Nick Drake’s work in a similarly obsessive manor when I became seriously unwell. I thought by working on his songs again would make me feel better.
This is most kind of you to say, thank you. I had relied heavily on Chris Healy’s tablature with this composition. It is in BEBEBE tuning, capo 4th. Perhaps he has updated things since the old aglonet site, but this way works for me and I’m grateful for his work. A tutorial is certainly something for me to consider, thank you for suggesting it. I will need a lot more confidence and composure to be able to provide one though.... Take care.
This is the first time I've heard it without the string' arrangements and it's Great, , , a lesson would be great or a closer video so we can work out what your playing, ybhat goes off you you 👍
@@definitely_not_louis1895 thank you, this is very sound advice and I will look to record closer video with higher definition. I hope to get to record Sunday for you in this manner after a bit of experimenting with the bass-notes. Take care.
@@sam-lynch Awesome! I've been trying to decide between a ls-18 (if I can find one) and an FG-180 for the next guitar I buy. Both fantastic sounding, but we know for sure Nick played a Goliath, so I may try to find one.
@@andyshriner5443 That is wonderful. The FG-180 is great and I am sure you know a lot already. What I can say that may help you to decide is the FG-180 is slightly bigger than the LS-18 in body, however I found the Yamaha easier to play - I do not know why this is. The Yamaha, in my opinion, has extraordinarily little bass response and the Levin has the most bass response I have ever encountered, which is perhaps one of the reasons why Nick chose it. I wish you all the best in your endeavours and I am sure you will love either of the guitars you choose!
@@andyshriner5443 Pleased I can be of help in some way. One more thing is to perhaps listen carefully to my video of Road from the Annual Nick Drake Gathering where I am playing a Nippon Gakki FG-180 Red Label. It will give you a comparison of sorts. Peter Rice was engineering the sound for that evening, so he extracted a precise representation of its qualities!
he was such a unique artist..
Thank goodness! Just got the tabs and I couldnt figure out from the song how the main riff goes. Your cover helps a lot. Thanks!

Truly beautiful brother. May I ask how did come to learn Nicks songs?

Back of the net. Lovely stuff
Beautiful tone!
Thanks Marcelo.
Great cover of a great song!
Thank you Carrandas. I agree, this is a great song. I may cover it again soon as I have had requests to play closer to the camera. All the best.
Lovely Sam. Are all your tunings CGCBbCE?
Hi Andrew, it is BEBEBE. Sam answered in some of the older comments.
Nick Drake is hard to play. How's your chops now 3 years later brother? Peace
Never too far away but playing his music on guitar comes in waves I find
Amazing, 😃 great playing, what is the tuning? And you should do a tutorial, 👍👍

Is that a Levin you're playing on?
Hi Andy. Yes well spotted, it's a Levin LS-18.

Is it standard tuning
Btw great job
Hi, this is in BEBEBE tuning.
