Check you service book, probably done 220,000 ks , most have. The speedometers gets changed every few years as they break. There will be a record of when in the book. Mine has 9000 on clock, has had its speedo changed a while ago. A good upgrade is an electronic replacement speedo
centre plates are for a centre seating config. basically the side flip and lock in to the middle do you can quickly disembark. drove these for years, with the right tyre they would climb a wall, also 8 revers gears.
We bogged one of these years ago and we open the door and stepped straight onto the ground. The rovers didn’t break the ground and the loaded mob just cracked the dry top and sank. The cupola was always fun on a hot day. Those small lights and the cross on the back are called “blackout” lighting. The dash has blackout panels as well. The bull bar can be fitted with an enormous winch between this bollards. They are also attachment points for winch rope doubling. Top speed of the Unimog was 90kph (56mph).
Your comment on those rear plates at rear of tray are designed to be removed so the vehicle can be lifted by crane onto rail or a ship. Two lift points beneath on chassis and the two at the front.
The canopy bows are most definitely NOT a roll cage. They fold almost as quick as the canvas when a mog is upside down. Unfortunately I have seen that.
Hey mate front what i can hear in the vid your shift seal is leaking air. Its the piston that selects the range on the gearbox when you go from 4th to 5th. Normally the seal on the piston gives way.
The reason for the f/r lever having v for forwads is that its in German (vorwärts for forward and rückwärts for backwards i think) also as a few people have said . . . Get better tires the Michelin XZL being a better choice than those tires on it (don't know if this is the case with your truck but i heard that some Australian military umogs came with reg street truck tires from the military for interchangeability with some of their reg trucks).
Those are extremely capable vehicles, given they run on proper tires! Let me suggest checking the engine (OM 366 A?) for what causes it to smoke, change all liquids and clean the fuel tank, check and eventually have the injectors rebuilt, and this truck will last for all eternity, no EMP whatsoever can do any harm!
Those points at the front could be used for lifting, but I'm sure they have other uses because they are too complicated to just be lifting points. There's plenty of pictures on the internet of unimogs with front end loaders attached to the front. You need four heavy duty pivit points for a front end loader attachement. This vehicle has 2 large pivit points up high and two below the front bumper which looks just right for a front end loader attachment.
2WD and 4WD? I thought they were all AWD, and you could simply lock center, front and rear diffs independently. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm about to go looking for one to make a mobile home out of in the next 6 months, so searching for as much knowledge as I can get on them.
Aussie Unimogs had 2wd, 4wd, and 4wd with diff. lock. Once 4wd is selected, the entire drivetrain is pressurized to prevent the ingress of water. You can then safely ford 1.2 m of still or slow moving water or mud.
The "V & R" on the leaver for forwards and backwards stand for "Vorwärts & Rückwärts",
they never translated this from German. :)

German for forwards is vorwärts
And "R" is not for "reverse," but "rückwärts."
thanks for the answer!
@@kkazphx which means "backwards" or "reverse" in German...

The two heavy duty "horns" on the front are mounts for a very big winch
Actually - They are for lifting by helicopters. The winch goes between the 2 'horns'.

That 1 is for types. To prevent truck from moving when it’s stop.
Nice. But it looked like those tires was from 87 as well

Probably just needs a good deglaze , load it and give it a hot supper
Only 5000km with such warn seats.....maybe its clocked the odometer?
Army replace speedos on most of them. Check the service book that the army kept for each vehicle. It'll probably have done ~200,000Kms.
Is it synchronomesh?
Yes, 8 speed box with syncromesh correct
What’s the wadding depth
Normal version 80cm, with the pressurized gearbox and axles 120cm.
your so called "minilights" are blackout convoy lights to drive inkognito, best used with nightvision goggles.
Is it possible to buy one ?
Yes they regularly come up for sale
Arent you supposed to go neutral before you switch to 4x4. I drive a mercedes actross and have to go N before i switch diff lock

I believe that it is high points for lifting and low points for tying down on vehicles or ships.
You would also require quick connect points for the hydraulics to run the loader bucket. Not standard Army fitment.
I thought that's where the winch sat for these vehicles.
@@markfryer9880 Tying down in planes too
After an EMP your engine still will start
Yeah, no computer, no electronics to speak of. Good old Back to Basics where everything is mechanical. Nothing for an EMP to fry.

TheRaptor1967 Mate these vehicles is the best. Currently building a Mog camper. Enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/WG2i9B1qj5M/v-deo.html
@@markfryer9880 Thanks.
I’m looking for a rig just like your mog, long and 87sh. May I ask how much you payed for it and how you got in touch with the military surplus?
Go to ‘Australian Frontline Machinery’ they run the ex-military auctions and from memory they start at around $30k
Nico Brits thanks! I will. 👍🏼
it cost 15k I think, plus about 10k to fix a trans issue lol
your foward and reverse was your PTO.
There Is Another Lever That Wasn't On That Mog For The PTO.
Parts will be hell to find
Wrong... unimog parts are cheap and easily accessible world wide!
@@NorthernMigrationTravel cheap?
Ha ha
Wrong
That was more of a test of how crappy the tyres are you're using on that mog.
YOur tyres are crap..... get chevrons on and be amazed....wading depth....vids on YT of mine in up to the windscreen????? no problems.
V was for victory
Too much exhaust smoke for a mere 5000k.
Excelente...
I'd change axle to dual wheel . Dana axles
Wrong tyres. those are roadtyres. You need ofroadtyres and lat som air out.
5000 ks, I think the army wound the clock back🤣
or possibly ran it right around, its actually 1,005,000 clicks
old
Tires suck.
