@@shamanic_nostalgia Right-on! "The Myth of Normal": Dr. Gabor Maté on Trauma, Illness and Healing in a Toxic Culture, is required listening. 🙃 #SaveSoil 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 🍄 Many psychiatrists and psychologists refuse to entertain the idea that society as a whole may be lacking in sanity. They hold that the problem of mental health in a society is only that of the number of 'unadjusted' individuals, and not of a possible un-adjustment of the culture itself.
The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not make these people sane.
As long as anyone believes that his ideal and purpose is outside him, that it is above the clouds, in the past or in the future, he will go outside himself and seek fulfillment where it cannot be found. He will look for solutions and answers at every point except where they can be found- in himself.
Exploitation and manipulation produce boredom and triviality; they cripple man, and all factors that make man into a psychic cripple turn him also into a sadist or a destroyer. ~ Erich Fromm
The abused child goes on living within those who have survived such torture, a torture that ended with total repression. They live with the darkness of fear, oppression, and threats. When all its attempts to move the adult to heed its story have failed, it resorts to the language of symptoms to make itself heard. Enter addiction, psychosis, criminality.
Till now, society has protected the adult and blamed the victim. It has been abetted in its blindness by theories, still in keeping with the pedagogical principles of our great- grandparents, according to which children are viewed as crafty creatures, dominated by wicked drives, who invent stories and attack their innocent parents or desire them sexually. In reality, children tend to blame themselves for their parents’ cruelty and to absolve the parents, whom they invariably love, of all responsibility.
Child abuse is still sanctioned - indeed, held in high regard - in our society as long as it is defined as child-rearing. It is a tragic fact that parents beat their children in order to escape the emotions from how they were treated by their own parents.
The only possible recourse a baby has when his screams are ignored is to repress his distress, which is tantamount to mutilating his soul, for the result is an interference with his ability to feel, to be aware, and to remember.
The knowledge that you were beaten and that this, as your parents tell you, was for your own good may well be retained (although not always), but the suffering caused by the way you were mistreated will remain unconscious and will later prevent you from empathizing with others. This is why battered children grow up to be mothers and fathers who beat their offspring.
For some years now, there has been proof that the devastating effects of the traumatization of children take their inevitable toll on society-a fact that we are still forbidden to recognize. This knowledge concerns every single one of us, and-if disseminated widely enough-should lead to fundamental changes in society; above all, to a halt in the blind escalation of violence.
The claim that mild punishments (slaps or smacks) have no detrimental effect is still widespread because we got this message very early from our parents who had taken it over from their own parents. Unfortunately, the main damage it causes is precisely the broad dissemination of this conviction. The result of which is that each successive generation is subjected to the tragic effects of so called physical “correction.
It is very difficult for people to believe the simple fact that every persecutor was once a victim. Yet it should be very obvious that someone who was allowed to feel free and strong from childhood does not have the need to humiliate another person.
Hitler, Stalin, Mao and other dictators were exposed to severe physical mistreatment in childhood and refused to face up to the fact later. Instead of seeing and feeling what had happened to them, they avenged themselves vicariously by killing millions of people. And millions of others helped them to do so. ~ Alice Miller

      Some reasons:
⭐️He smoked weed before every talk
⭐️He actually learned stuff by reading books and delved deep into topics instead of watching 10 minute videos on UA-cam

No culture on earth is as heavily narcotized as the industrial West in terms of being inured to the consequences of maladaptive behavior. We pursue a business-as-usual attitude in a surreal atmosphere of mounting crises and irreconcilable contradictions.
A global society is coming into being, a global society that is made out of information that was not intended to be ours, but is ours, by the mistaken invention of computers and the printing press, information is power, and information has spilled by the clumsy hands of the dominator culture so that the information is everywhere, never before has the situation been so fluid, we might be able to finally have a crack at this.
The Internet is light at the end of the tunnel. I don't care if it's being used to peddle pornography, I don't care if it's being trivialized in a thousand ways. Anything can be trivialized. The important point is that it is leveling the playing field of global society. It is creating de-facto an entirely new set of political realities. None of the constipated, oligarchic structures that are resisting this were ever asked. Their greed betrayed them into investing in this in the first place without ever fully grasping what the implications of it were for their larger agenda.
The smart people who are straight are involved in simply the media management of what has turned into a slow apocalypse, spreading starvation, exacerbated class differences, toxified agriculture, so forth and so on. I don't believe the Establishment thinks there are solutions. Their policy is basically the management of panic, which is hardly a forward moving approach to the adventure of human civilization.
I do not think that the government, under the guise of some phony, alarmist, pseudo-scientific rhetoric, should attempt to control the evolution of consciousness. After all, if these things truly are consciousness-expanding, it doesn't take too much intelligence to realize that it is the absence of consciousness that is causing our flirtation with extinction and planetary disaster.
What the psychedelic experience really is, is opening the doorway into a lost continent of the human mind, a continent that we have almost lost all connection to, and the nature of this lost world of the human mind is that it is a Gaian entelechy.
The plants are the pipeline into the Gaian intention. It's just not a coincidence that these plants carry this immense spiritual message. They are the pipeline of Gaian intentionality.
The fungi became, or is for some mysterious reason still to be discovered, a pipeline into a mind, an entelechy, which we can only image as feminine and can only associate somehow to the environment, to the ecosystem. This is the Gaian mind. This is what the goddess really is. The goddess is a network of connective intelligence that is operating on this planet.
If the ego is not regularly and repeatedly dissolved in the unbounded hyperspace of the Transcendent Other, there will always be slow drift away from the sense of self as part of nature’s larger whole. The ultimate consequence of this drift is the fatal ennui that now permeates Western Civilization.
What is needed is a spirit of boundary dissolution, between individuals, between classes, sexual orientations, rich and poor, man and woman, intellectual and feeling toned types. If this can happen, then we will make a new world. And if this doesn't happen, nature is fairly pitiless and has a place for us in the shale of this planet, where so many have preceded us.
    Terence McKenna ☯

@@ashtree3006 From your lips to God's ear. #SaveSoil 🌻🌻🌻🌻 "Optimism is a duty. The future is open. It is not predetermined. No one can predict it, except by chance. We all contribute to determining it by what we do. We are all equally responsible for its success." ~ Karl Popper
"Our ability to destroy ourselves is the mirror image of our ability to save ourselves. To me it begins and ends with these psychedelic substances. The synergy of the psilocybin in the hominid diet brought us out of the animal mind and into the world of articulated speech and imagination.
Think about this for a moment, we grow so inured to these religious forms, think about the notion of instituting at the center of your religion a rite where you eat your god is probably a memory of a relationship to some kind of a psychedelic experience of some sort." ~ Terence McKenna
"We humans are wired for empathy by evolution, but when children grow up in dominator families they internalize this male over female template for relations early on. They then automatically apply it to other differences, whether based on race, religion, sexual orientation, and so forth.
That both Muslim fundamentalists and the Christian right are today focusing their attempts to regain control in a rapidly changing world on frantic efforts to maintain control over women, particularly over women's sexuality. Moreover, given their mythologies about "holy wars," it is also understandable that they should use "divinely approved" violence to do so.
If we look at the last decades, we see that the US rightist-fundamentalist alliance demonized partnership-oriented families and painted women's rights as a threat to "tradition" - which of course it is to traditions of domination. These people had an integrated political agenda that recognizes that a "traditional" authoritarian, male dominated, punitive family is foundational to an authoritarian, male dominated, punitive politics. We can see this connection in sharp relief in brutal top-down regimes, be they secular like Nazi Germany or religious like ISIS in the Middle East.
People from authoritarian, male-dominated, punitive families tend to vote for "strongman" leaders and for "hard" punitive policies (prisons, wars) rather than "soft" caring policies (healthcare, childcare). Not everyone from this background does. But many people do. And this conditioning can be exploited, as Trump's campaign did, especially in times like ours of economic, social, and technological upheaval.
[On the ancient Venus figurines:] If the central religious figure was a woman giving birth and not, as in our time, a man dying on a cross, it would not be unreasonable to infer that life and the love of life - rather than death and the fear of death - were dominant in society as well as art.
This notion that man can, and should, have absolute dominion over the "chaotic" powers of nature and woman...is what ultimately lies behind man's famous "conquest of nature" - a conquest that is today puncturing holes in the earth's ozone layer, destroying our forests, polluting our air and water, and increasingly threatening the welfare, and even survival, of thousands of living species, including our own." ~ Riane Eisler

      Thanks Chuck,
      I enjoyed those quotes.
      -- One critique though.
I m not sure whos quote it is but Nazi Germany was far from secular. Their ideology was a mix of numerous religious/spiritual and philosophical beliefs. Many of which appeared to be for the benifit of the people . Which is one more reason that ideologies are suspect and must largely be resisted if not thoroughly scrutinized.
Not to mention herd mentality and dictators.
But yeah they were awash in different aspects of spirituality. Demented for sure , but its a reminder of how it can go wrong.
There's a really interesting audio book avaliable on UA-cam parsing out many details of this . When I find the name I'll post it.

@@bellezavudd Thank you for your kind words. The 💀Nazis☠ were heavy into the occult too. “In his childhood, Hitler was enthralled by the pomp and ritual of the Catholic Church,” wrote Fritz Redlich in his 1999 biography of Hitler “Allegedly, for a while he even considered becoming a priest.”
He began rejecting religion as a teenager, as he was pulled in different directions by his parents. His mother, Klara, reportedly the only person he ever loved, was a devout Catholic. His father, Alois, with whom he often fought, thought religion was essentially a scam - a “crutch for human weakness,” as another historian put it.
“In Hitler’s eyes Christianity was a religion fit only for slaves,” wrote Alan Bullock “Hitler, A Study in Tyranny,” a seminal biography. “Its teaching, he declared, was a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle of the fittest.”
In many of his writings, Hitler said that his intention was to replace that Judeo-Christian religion with his own Aryan religion, where he was chosen as the true savior.
Initially, he pretended to support the church. The "Deusche Christen" was a movement that upheld Nazi doctrine and many of their ministers (a lot of them dedicated members of the Nazi party), preached according to those teachings and convinced the churchgoers that this was a new awakening.
He "interpreted" Christian traditions and holidays and replaced them with Nazi rituals. Those theologians that resisted where thrown into prison or Concentration Camps, Catholics and Protestants alike.
      (Dietrich Bonhoeffer).
But for a guy who hated Christianity, he sure gave some mighty strange speeches:
"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter" (Speech delivered at Munich April 12, 1922)
"The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and co-operation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life.” (Proclamation to the German Nation February 1, 1933)
"National Socialism neither opposes the Church nor is it anti-religious, but on the contrary, it stands on the ground of a real Christianity. The Church's interests cannot fail to coincide with ours alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in the world of today, in our fight against the Bolshevist culture, against an atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for the consciousness of a community in our national life, for the conquest of hatred and disunion between the classes, for the conquest of civil war and unrest, of strife and discord. These are not anti-Christian, these are Christian principles." (Speech delivered at Koblenz, August 26, 1934)
The quote which you referred to, was made by Riane Eisler. She was born in Vienna in 1931 before her family fled from the Nazis in 1939 to Cuba. She and her parents lived in a slum in Havana for seven years, after which they emigrated to the United States, to Miami, New York, and Chicago before finally settling in Los Angeles. With degrees in sociology and law from the University of California, she is an attorney, legal scholar and author. She has published thirteen books, including one memoir, The Gate, published in 2000. Her first book, published in 1977, was Dissolution: No-Fault Divorce, Marriage, and the Future of Women. Her second book, published in 1979, was on the Equal Rights Amendment.
In her third book The Chalice and the Blade, published in 1987, she coined the terms "partnership" and "dominator" to describe the two underlying forms of society. Partnership societies are characterized by gender equality, peace, sustainability, caring, while dominator societies are characterized by sexism, chronic war, ecological destruction, and unsustainability. According to her research, which references the work of archaeologists Marija Gimbutas and James Mellaart, among others, for millennia human societies were built on partnership, in which human capacity to give, nurture and sustain life was held in the highest regard, and shared responsibility was the gold standard. The fall into domination occurred around 6,500 years ago. The Chalice and the Blade has sold over 500,000 copies and been translated into around 25 languages.
Eisler has argued that the switch from partnership to dominator has led to gender biased monogamy, prostitution and illegitimacy, women's dependence and the acceptance of chronic war.
"Women aren't more easily swayed by fascism than men, but I believe that their situation makes them in effect more slavish than men."
      Simone de Beauvoir

I’ve been looking for a long time. I figured I’d ask some Terence fans because the things I’ve experienced are along these lines and being “unknown” makes it almost impossible to actually find any real people. Terence was wrong on the population question... Planet could easily handle 10 billion people... its a question of efficiency of resources. The way we do things now, we are doomed regardless of population. He understood that about waste management. If we practise holistic waste management, proper stewardship of oceans and forests, the planet will be just fine with very many people on it

      Nope , he was correct.
And its more than than just management of the worlds resources. ( And many corporations care little about that beyond their own productivity since their bottom line is profits, which is unfortunately aligned with wasteful living habits. )
As terrence states there is also a waste problem (which is clearly related) but not just nuclear waste. It's also sewage waste, agricultural waste, chemical waste and more.
Overpopulation has a negative impact on many facets of life. The most obvious and pressing considerations are: the environment, space, clean water, food supply, medical resources, mental health, crime and various types of societal conflict.
Population growth exponentially increases the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, the main cause of global warming.
It increases air, water, soil and noise pollution, as well as consumption of resources like water, food, and mineral reserves like metals and fossil fuels.
It speeds up the extinction of species, reducing biodiversity, by diminishing habitats like tropical forests and coral reefs.
A vast growing labor pool means business owners will offer lower wages, which guts the middle class and widens the economic divide between the haves and the have-nots. This causes higher crime rates, undermines education, and forces young women into prostitution to survive.
The poor have less access to food and medicine, and there are increasing levels of sickness, starvation & disease.
This scenario isnt a theory; its played out in underdeveloped countries every day. But no nation is immune to these dynamics.
The present declining quality of life of the working class in the USA is a perfect example of this process.

@@bellezavudd honestly I see Terrence Mckenna's vision of the future as an almost pessimistic viewpoint, life will go on yes. but I think the human collective will eventually come to a conclusion that we are all the same and the only thing that really separates us is the illusion of being an individual, or our brain patterns that were programmed into us via genetics or external environmental factors. this awakening of critical thinking and ability to deconstruct your surroundings without "borrowing" somebody else's way of thinking is almost unavoidable with the size of our brains. we CAN coexist with the forces of nature, we just have yet to learn its language. and yet so many people in power are working to make that an impossibility, despite the attempt to control the masses. There will be a revolution, but not a violent one. a peaceful one. a revolution of the mind, as a rejection of what those in power have told us what to think, what to believe in, and what to blindly follow.
I will not accept a "mass suicide" as our end, I understand we are the next extinction event but as many philosophers have said: as much potential you have to destroy, you have that same potential to create.

We already failed though, things are still going the wrong way overall. No coincidence the Georgia Guidestones were recently destroyed. What are all these people going to do?! 'reality' currently revolves around work. Farming would remain essential.
