A couple of weeks back we were invited to visit the Soma Sound Machines factory in Warsaw, Poland. As well as a look at the first production models of the expressive Terra instrument, we got a look around their place.
PCBs and components are delivered here, the Through Hole hand soldered components are put onto the boards, any SMD (surface mount design) parts are sent off to the machine, units are tested put into the cases and shipped to distributors and customers.
Lyra 8 , Kosmos, Pulsar-23 and Ether are made here and pretty soon the new Terra will be too.
Its actually a pretty cottage style industry, surprisingly small but also very efficient.
Check out the other videos we show while we were there.

Full disclosure: we paid for our flights, they put us up for the night.

I never again want to hear someone say “Soma synths are expensive”. After watching this superb video they seem to be an absolute bargain.
Something can be "expensive" without being "overpriced" or "poor value".
Soma synths are expensive.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
People are stupid, modern Moog, Sequential, Korg etc are expensive as they are made like Behringer inside but soma gears are worth every penny for people that understand a bit about circuitry and how it effects the sound quality
@@Bigger-Circuitry-Bigger-SOUND "Built like Behringer inside"?
Serious question- Have you got a learning disability I should be aware of before I start making fun of you?
words!
They aren't
Kudos to Viktor: that was quite an amazing testing jam👍
Masterclass! Had everyone bopping to his sick beat! Shows how much you can do with it in 15 seconds... a lot!
This dude is like a beast basically
11:45 Best moment for me in this interesting informative video... Seeing them grooving to electronic dance music... You just know this company is legit.
Epic!
I love Vlad's revolutionary creativity breaking old patterns. This is now joined by my sympathy for the work ethic in the place where his works are created. You can see with the naked eye that the work is carried out in an atmosphere of mutual respect and performed by enthusiasts.
And I am also glad that it takes place in Poland and thanks to the positive energy of the main person behind this project, it breaks at least a little xenophobia prevailing in my country. Because Russia is not only violence, contempt, murder and Putin. They are also people who, despite their high standards, are unable to change the world they come from, so they change it elsewhere.
Man... This makes me love these people even more.
I adore my Lyra 8. These guys are legends.

Wow, after watching this, Soma synths are past awesome. Really wish I could afford one. These synthesizers are phenomenal. Go Soma😊
Good to see Vlad's safe in Poland!
11:47 Nick cracks a smile when the beat kicks in.
Absolutely excellent,
I hope all the people who whine that SOMA is too expensive get to see this.
Ain’t no cheap way to produce quality.
Thanks for this, excellent 👌
i was one of those guys, and my mind has definitely changed
We don't have money, at least let us complain ;)
Vlad is a genius and an incredibly creative brain.
Hey Nick, really enjoyed this tour through the SOMA factory. Am hoping that you'll do many more like this as everyone has an idea on how and where they're manufactured at... but being able to tour the area makes it more tangible for your viewer's. This was an "11" out of "10", great Job SonicState!
Nice testing jam at the end! Quite weird (for me) in green but I LOVE my Pulsar-23 in white. ❤️
You're the man, Nick! Thanks for the tour. And thank you to the Soma team
I had no idea it is a company from my country. I'm impressed. I hope that soon one of the SOMA devices will appear in our studio.
I believe Vlad - desigeer is Russian, who established operation ie Poland.
Russian.
I enjoyed watching that and thinking "my Lyra 8 was there!"
Soma's stuff exudes quality. This video gives you an idea why. These people work hard, and produce excellent stuff.
Love these videos! I'm excited to see more.
Great team, all very nice and open individuals, superb products, well done!!!
Great tour. These SOMA people do amazing work.
Excellent tour. Thanks.
The last minutes jam was fantastic :) thanks for the video :)
What a amazing place thank you for the tour.
Damn, guess I'm gonna have to pick up a soma machine after this :P
Wow. Super cool. Thanks for taking the time to nip over to Warsaw.
Wonderful video. From excellent people comes excellent gear. Love my SOMA gear.
Wonderful to see the siblings of my beautiful Lyra-8 getting lovingly hand crafted! Thank you.
Excellent video - thank you for sharing. There is a lot of talent going into those units. I can't wait to get my hands on one of their units. Cheers!
It was nice! Thank you for sharing with er'body, Sonicstate. :) Awesome factory and people, SOMA Sound Machines in Warsaw! :)
Yes, I enjoyed that too. Really interesting seeing how it's put together. I love my Soma stuff. Great quality and superb sound.
Absolutely fascinating. I am fortunate to own a few bits of SOMA kit and this video confirms the build quality. Excellent. Thanks for uploading!
This is what we want to see! I adore this company, how it works, what it produces, how it shapes the contemporary musical landscape. Kudos to Vlad and his team(s).
Thanks for this Nick.
P.S. I'm steadily moving towards the purchase of my second piece of Soma equipment, and I don’t intend to stop there. Exciting stuff!
Out of nothing a fat drum track to test the machine...absolut fantastic..🎉
Awesome. Great video. Inspiring company.
Wow, absolutely fantastic 👍
Thank you Nick for your tour.
Pleasure to have someone actually pointing out how much effort and dedication it takes to produce and test something as complicated as Pulsar 23.
You rock!
Interesting to see how the synths are made... very cool tour.
I always love factory tours - love my SOMA Labs kit :)
That amazing tech at the end performed one of the most effective publicity out there! Now I want one. Give him a bonus!
Great to see SOMA "internals". My Lyra8 was a wonderful instrument. I sold it and regret it. When I opened the Lyra to take a look inside ... not only the sound is fabulous also the Lyra internal is a masterpiece.
lovely video. thanks for the insights
A lot of respect to the people working in this factory.
Can't wait to own a pulsar, Soma is an amazing company with real integrity!
A super cool device!
The new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. DLC looks insane!
Great video btw
love these people....i met most of them at the superboot. amazing human beings. regards to all them. especially much love to Grzegorz.....what a lovely man he is!!!
thank you so much for so nice words! hope to meet at SB in Berlin again! Grzegorz

Glad to see Lyra-8 still is in production. Really special gear.
Thanks, Soma and Nick for an interesting tour. Great to see how my Soma products are made. Looking forward to the Terra but not sure I could sit tests a Pulsar all day every day.

I built a DIY Lyra-8. Took me hundreds of hours [originally said "1000+"; that's a silly guess and wrong]. I'm amazed at the talent of all these people!
1000+ hours, what happened with your build, a lot of troubleshooting? I started mine 2 days ago, In/out, main pcb are done, I still have to finish the ctrl pcb, waiting for some toggle switches. Anyway, I hope that your beast is up and running and that you enjoy it :)
@@ElCamelloLocoO First major project, built an extended version which added a number of complications & parts too. Really wonderful learning experience! Enjoy building yours!
I really enjoy seeing independent company tours and the people behind the instruments. Cheers!

@@vexdata2445 I like Russian people, in fact, I like people all over the world. You're a banker's tool promoting evil, know this.
Great video
Great company! Just want to support them more and more.

They are brilliant! I have bought the Cosmos and am hoping to get the Lyra-8 at some point!
😍I love Soma Sound Machines.
Nice one
Brilliant vid thx
whata rare behidn the scenes view :)
when you are in poland, visit the opther polich companies as well. Xaoc for example.
Cool!
I bought a Lyra-8 last year and it's probably the best quality build I've seen or felt on a piece of electronic music equipment. Now I have a better understanding why.
Wowww that pulsar jam 🤩
It’s super interesting to see the factories of our favorite studio gear. Thanks for the tour! I would love to own a Soma synth one day.
I WANT TO BUY THEIR PRODUCT. GENIUS POLAND.
I tried them at Superbooth but recently I borrowed a Lyra 8 it's ace!!
That was amazing, and it's clear that the Soma staff give a shit. Awesome.
Still out of my discretionary income range but wwwwow. I can see that every penny spent would be worth it. Super cool to see this hands-on process up close.
Soma rules!!!
super cool
F! Nick visited Warsaw and I didn’t knew about it! He managed to sneak here silently, like a PWM’d square wave to the full!!!
I love soma
They are very close to making my KINGDADDY-MACHINE🎼
So good! Happy to own two pieces of kit from them. What was that patch at the end during the impromptu jam? What he did with the effects was awesome.
unexpected liveset from the man himself Viktor
I need one of those olive green Pulsars.
EPIC
Brawo panowie.Nie wiedziałem że w Polsce to robią.
SOMA Labs factory tour satiated my organization fetish.
I wonder if they need a custodian 🤔I would volunteer just to witness the magic
Fantastic insight and great to see Grzegorz. Dealt with him via email, great bloke! I've got two Lyra 8 and a Cosmos. They are unique, quirky and VERY well made instruments. Worth every penny.
thanks a lot! happy to see you and meet at Superbooth if possible! Grzegorz
@@somaeurope5288 ah, don't think I can make it. Have a successful time!
Kind regards, Mike.
i love the some guys
If you can't watch the whole video, skip to 11:15 to see an awesome jam
My baby was made right there
What kind of fancy camera-equipment is Nick wearing on his chest?
Maybe a bit off topic but, nice to see these people having a descent job in Poland where a lot others have to work outside the country.
Cool stuff they make btw.
interesting to think about testing an electronic instrument by really *playing* it in the same way one would a guitar or piano versus just checking certain parameters, speaks to a concern for the functionality of these as instruments, not just sound modules
That gentlemen hello was very strange.
Great Made In MOSKOW and Building in Polonia...great!
So they are in Poland now?
"What are you doing, Viktor?! You are supposed to test our products not lay down a sick beat!"
"This is the sound of me testing, boss."
Oh, Soma gear is made here in Warsaw? I didn't know that. I might try to find the place and go through their trash just in case I find a discarded Lyra 8, or Ether, or whatever 😉
You guys gotta focus on this kinda content. The moog content with the matriarch and the engineers is what made me buy a matriarch. Really hoping there is a 30-60min (at least) interview with vlad coming up.
Thanks. We have done a couple of interviews with Vlad in our Meet the Makers series and there is a 30 minute piece on the Terra also posted today
@@sonicstate watching the terra video now. Thanks guys!

SOMA'$ PIPE came close to the D.Machine but I need hands free with zero latency in order to play drums and vocal synths simultaneously.🎵🎧,(preferably Bass sounds split with brass on upper register )
I have had no idea that SOMA is from my country. I am proud and a little sad that i already bought Volca Modular instead ROAT (if it only have CV or MIDI😢 it will be nobrainer).
A yellow Lyra does it for me
Vlad, my dream is to work with you 😍
So glad to see SOMA moving out of fasist Russia to Poland. Great decision from Vlad and his team. I only wish that music instrument shops around the world do recognize this brave step and re-list Soma products back again as Polish product, not a Russian one which caused Soma be de-listed by many due to restrictions.Rspect to Nick and Sonic State for doing this.
They had office in EU for EU customers long before war, but they still based in Russia, actually Vlad is from Donetsk wich was shelled by Ukraine since 2014. You watch to much of a western trashnews, try to switch on your brain.
I dont understand why you mix music with your petsonal perspective on politics.
such a great video and I must read firs your comment which would sound on a loudspeakersystem pretty like I go Home
build your synththepeacethesizer that sounds propper love & then maybe yea you added smthng improving instead of outsourcing your inner mp3 rips
some spellars sorry but you get my perspective... its just so not adding anything productive at all your comment no matter what opinion / side you have. Its a rare gold company and it really buzzes my brsin to read things like that here ..
peace & nice time i whish
and restrictions/sanctions is s big topic but we from the west do that and force them to leave .. megacool.. no its not
It's FASCIST. FASCIST. Do you actually know what the word means? There are 150 million people in Russia, you know? Do you want to cancel them all? Do you want to force them all out? Have you been watching CNN?
So a pulasr 23 or a perkons? Fk disicions
8:48 this was for Andrew Huang
Viktor getting paid to DAWless jam… 😮
A bit unrelated but how long you plan on being in Warsaw?
We were there for 24hrs
@@sonicstate I see. Anyway, that is great you visited Poland. :)
11:47 :)
