Marty is a treasure trove of guitar secrets...I was lucky to have grown up with his masterful playing...
Marty's half-step bends are how you know it's him... instantly. He throws them in, in the most unexpected places and it adds so much character. It's the main reason he became one of my favorites. Just a totally original style of rock guitar. No one sounds like him and not many can truly recreate the essence of his lines.
yep! truly an authentic player
Agreed!
Rick is very quickly becoming the premiere interviewer for these legendary musicians. He has this quality that just makes everyone he speaks to just relax and get really passionate about what they're talking about. Absolutely love these clips, too. There's so much to take from these guys even if you're not a guitarist.
These other people on UA-cam are merely journalists. Not music producers, musicians, etc. That's why Rick gets the quality musicians
@@user-gl5ld9vm7idm4🎉8GKCSUECA ITS AS GOOD AS DIS SHOW😂❤🎉
Marty practically treats guitars like pens, doodling out music in thin air. It’s always mind-blowing.
had the honor to speak with the man once , listening to him makes ya realize you know nothing. kinda heartbreaking really but the man is on another level
@@user-vw9ei6vv8k Agreed! Saw him performing this spring and he was fantastic. Never had a chance to speak with him but I’d be speechless anyway. 🤣
His solo for train of consequences is literally a work of art
Most of his solos are! Love Marty
@@ZEBASS I agree, his megadeth solos are all works of art
Marty has divinely mastered the most difficult and expressive thing you can do with a guitar: bends
Marty's explanation of dynamics explains why Jeff Beck was so good and easily identifiable. He approached phrasing dynamically, and never played the same note the same way - each was louder, softer, longer, more or less vibrato, etc.
Martys rust in peace and countdown leads are the best compilation of leads any album has had
Marty is a master guitar player! I attended his clinic with my son when he visited our country a few years ago. So humble and intelligent and a really unique player. Thanks again Rick for this video.
No one else sounds remotely like him. He can play one note and you know it's him
Marty is so spot on. Such a great player and teacher. too.
He has given us all so much. I wish you well in all you do Marty. Such an influence on me.
Between talking and playing, Marty is one of the most informative interviews ever. What a guy! Wow!
The wonderful thing about Rick's work is that even without being a musician (I'm an visual artist), we can still appreciate all what's said here. Even more: we can trace parallels with other disciplines in arts.
Well said
How awesome to see Marty with you, Rick.
Marty never fails to get me inspired to play music
Legend. If you watch his mouth, he’s singing the notes as he plays. Amazing musician. ✌🏼
This is why Marty is so great! The non technical advice is so inspiring. After I heard scenes and got the videotape and tabs I was mesmerized how clean Marty plays and had a big part in my love for the guitar.
Marty will play the most amazing thing that no one else does and sounds completely original then say it's nothing to write home about
Him and Jason are the two guys I listen to for learning how to play. They don't get you to copy them, but to be unique and create beautiful melodies and your own sound. No one else comes close to the lessons Marty gives as far as learning to be yourself on the instrument.
This is gold
More Marty so soon, yes!
@4:30 to the end basically. Pay attention.
Marty is so awesome. The dude is timeless and looks ageless too..
Marty is the level of brilliant where you don’t realize how much smarter you are than everyone else/how far ahead of them you are.
One time I was playing a show in Arizona, when I came out onstage, I saw Marty in the audience. I suddenly got so nervous, but after a few minutes, I realized he was talking to a friend and not really paying that much attention. Then I relaxed and just let the music come out. But obviously, it's always intimidating when you play for someone that good who you looked up to your whole life practically. Now I teach his riffs to my students. It's all very rewarding.
Marty’s style is unique!
For me personally, Marti and Nuno are the best metal guitarists !!!
There's something about Marty that has always put a smile on my face. A beast of a musician and player.
This is huge! I quit playing because the culture at the time was simply about shredding and practicing was just boring scale exercises. Having a purpose is everything. It means you flex the need to SAY SOMETHING, which is so much more important than shredding. Practice isn't, or shouldn't be practice, it should be playing for yourself.
He is so melodic! That's key!
One the most beautiful things about Marty is how he tells a story with his solos, always felts that way since he was in Megadeth, first noticed it with his solo on Tornado of souls, not the usual runs and licks and tech show off, it was a lot more profound
I like the age we live in we get to see more of these guys, and interviews, and insights. Had to find and pay for an instructional video back in the day, and those were mostly trash
Holy crap Mr. Beato. I love the guests you get to interview. I'm definitely watching this when I get a chance. It's got to feel awesome getting to interview all these legends. Keep it up man!
Damn that little middle finger flick was awesome
Loving this
Great guitar player, so humble and inspiring for all of us. Thank you so much Marty!
Man I love these kind of interviews, Rick asks the questions others don't, so you get gems like this.
It makes you appreciate the incredible depth of the creative process, and how many hours might have been spent on just a few seconds of music.
People like Marty don't give themselves an easy ride, I can easily imagine there's a lot of agonizing between the idea and the finished product.
That goes for all true artists. Appreciate the video.
Thanks Rick, what a cool, humble guy & great player !
His passion comes through both his playing, and talking about music. 😊😊
Most important guitarist to listen to of anyone out there. He gives you the secrets to being unique and making your own sound
The lighting in the studio is awesome. The place looks great! 😎🤓
Thank you Marty and Rick! Appreciate this insights.
A true master class! I love the inspiration I get from Marty’s thought process.
100% inspiring, he echoes my thoughts, and influences, which I could never put into words properly, he just laid it all out, Thank You !
Marty is a wizard. Living his best life out there in Japan.
i dont even believe a word from this guy's mouth: he is THE Marty Friedman, he can do whatever pops up in his mind and stamp that thing with his own fingerprint, as mortal as we are just shredding and play as fast possible as we could.
This is so important
I went to high school with Marty. He was a year older than me. He was best buds with my neighbor. He has a 1968 Cutlas, and I has a 1966 GTO. He was in a band with a few of the guys I knew called Duece! Man did they rock. Used to practice at a place they called “The Barn” that was on the Property of the guitar player and singers mother’s property. It was frickin awesome to be able to hang there and listen to their music! Marty’s parents moved to Hawaii,
I was lucky enough to meet Marty and Jason when Cacophony played The Thirsty Whale outside of Chicago in the 90's, what a great memory.
As a guitar player when I’m doing a lead melody, I’m not thinking about the nuances of hitting notes harder or lighter, my emotions of how I’m feeling the music in that moment determines how I’m hitting the notes. Nobody has time to think about each note lol you have to feel it
Great interview as always. His hair falling on the strings and messing up the note was very relatable haha.
One of my first favorite guitar players.
God bless Marty Friedman
Damnnn!!! You asked such powerful question I always wanted answers for. 😮
Another legend that I love :O>
Keep up the amazing interviews and thank you yet again.
great interview what a cool guy
This is insanely helpful! I’m going to pick up my acoustic and take his advice, thank you!❤
Marty is a awesome guitarist 👍😎🎸🤘
Men!! A Master class 🤯 Love it
Best lesson for me. Not shaping not duplicate just creative. I love rick and marty .
Wow...Marty,the great guitat player...😎😎😎
FUCK I love this guy
!
First...
always love your interviews, Rick.
Когда-нибудь я научусь играть как Марти!
Yeah, “just do them differently”, Marty. Give me those 40 years
As great as Marty is if we wanted to hear how to develop a theme that would be Mr.Satriani you would want to interview Rick! And his last groupings exercise sounds like Blackmore so again, another master for an interview!
Holy shit! Marty got jackson!,!!
I’ve been playing with purpose since 2007. It’s rare when I’ll crank up a Dio album, and shred some Vivian Campbell solos. If i pick up the guitar, and not have logic running, 9 times out of 10, I’ll have found an interesting riff, and curse myself for not getting it tracked! So i always play with the daw running….
that haunting clean tone that Marty has really reminds me of his instructional videos
good ol days.
The guitar is literally an extention of Marty's personality.
Yo Marty!
I never noticed this before?
But as I'm watching Marty Friedman talking.
I was thinking, he reminds me of someone else, but who?
Then I remembered another Rick Beato interview with
Kirk Hammet.
And that's who he reminds me of.
I have no idea how he plays so great holding his pick like that and the angle his wrist is at?
⚡️💫😊
I've found every little thing in every note counts. How hard the note is hit, a bend, a pinch harmonic, how far to bend a note, which kind of vibrato, there's so many small things to consider for every note. It all adds up to make a quality lick thats all your own. The most minute things add up. The devils in the details.
Nice new custom Monarkh
Marty has an unusual picking style but he produces the most beautiful tones. I zoomed in on his picking hand and noticed he uses his thumbnail as a second pick. He also used one of his other fingers to down pick with. Good luck trying to copy it.
Its pretty funny how he holds the pick: seems just as he holds it like it was some dirty thing😂
Marty plays what in my mind could be called Boudoir Blues… it’s as if he’s watching an old school striptease in a hot and humid old jazz club. I say jazz, because to me Blues and Jazz fell off the same tree. 🤘🏼
The Secret is = All roads lead to ULI JON ROTH
When are you going to talk about Manic Street Preachers?
He loves those pants almost as much as Rick loves that shirt 😂
Muat be weird leaving a band 23 years ago and still being introduced as the guy from that band
4:35
To get a lesson from him would be awesome! He probably charges $1000 like Joe Satriani does or did a few years ago. I teach every once in a while but I don't charge but I'm not in their level.
Guitar is a toy for Marty...
He rules..🤟
Is Marty playing through a boss katana 50?
it's a vox vt40x
We know he's a great guitarist, but is there a nicer person on earth than Marty?
I appreciate hearing the vets talk about the importance of originality in a day where every band wants to sound exactly the same, use the same exact gear… its all so UN-special lately.
Probably the smartest guitarist on the planet.
Yes everyone else plays notes. Marty creates things that have never been done
how to put all bedroom "famous" youtubers in their place.🙂
So im not the only one that move his mouth while playing a solo lol
What guitar model is that one? He is a master 🔥
Jackson Monarkh
It's funny that this both guys are the same age...😯🙊
Just play tornado.
Ok so I've noticed multiple KILLERS musicians with this "chewing" twitch when they play.....
Awesome. But now- We need a Dave Mustaine interview.
ex-megadeth
Weird Al plays guitar?
Hella make up on Martys face.
marty ? hey can I barrow your guitar ? yes im serious , wtf
My favourite
Martie Friedman🤘🤘
