Hi Chris, thanks for doing this one. I've wanted to see an overlay of new & old fireblades since i tested the new one in 2020. It confirms what i thought, that it's seriously quick at the top, but otherwise gutless. Can you show an overlay of the final run vs the old rr? I've heard you ask several times why the bikes have throttle restrictions at high revs. Here, in the UK they don't. It's because of the different noise regulations in EU and USA. Euro 4/5 noise tests are done by riding the bike into a closed loop course and measuring noise as it accelerates out. The intention was to get a more realistic reading of the bike under power, but the Japanese factories saw an opportunity to cheat it by putting a valve in the exhaust which opens at high revs when the test is over. The US EPA noise test is done at half the RPM where peak power is made. To get through this test would need a bigger, quieter exhaust which would make less power than the Euro compliant one. Sport bikes are not selling well in America so it's not a priority market for the factories. They just take their Euro compliant bikes and chop the top end power off. This means the EPA noise test is done at lower RPM where it will pass.
That’s bad ass from a stock bike just with a tune. almost 200 horses impressive. Back in 99. I had a double RR had head work cams full hindle exhaust and tune bike made close to 160 HP It was impressive for the time. Now in days, it’s a whole different story. props to the engineers at Honda.

I had a dynojet 168. I went with that dyno because it has dual rolls. I learned so much about making power, and a peak number don't mean shit if the rest of the curve is garage. Biggest horse power I'd even got to run on my dunk was a ZX10 on ethanol made 198 hp. The customer did all his own tuning so I was just there to operate my dyno. It was still a wild ride
