Hello Kari, Thank you for your honest and insightful information as a Funeral Director. I’m a professional Master Cosmetologist for over 40 years. I actually worked on my Mom and Dad to do hair & makeup when they passed. I wasn’t sure I could do this until actually put to the test. However, I have to say I am so glad I did. This was my opportunity to have private time alone with them before the visitation. What a wonderful experience. I was able to talk to them and make them look Amazing for their departure. It was a final gift of Love and Respect that I could provide. Some people have told me that they think it is creepy. But I know different and don’t regret it at all. Someone told me my Mom looked so pretty that they were expecting her to “Sit up”. I take that as a great compliment. Thank you for all you do for the deceased and their families. You provide a most valuable service that many may not appreciate. However I think I get it. Blessings your way my dear, Kevin LaMartina
As someone who worked in a high volume funeral home (Los Angeles) 1,500 cases a year...I can say this is an EXCELLENT video, Kari! You really give people a glimpse into a day in the life of a funeral director! Great work!!!
I don’t understand why people would tell you “oh you just want people to die”... your their to service that person and their families and help give the family closure.. it’s a beautiful thing what you do. When my father unexpectedly passed away, the staff at the funeral home we went to were so nice and caring, they honestly really helped me try to calm my mother and make things easy. Much respect to you and everyone else in the business
Thanks Kari, Its nice that the owners of the funeral homes you work with give you the freedom to walk around and share your daily work and the workings of your days. Its always insightful with the subjects of your video "classes." I'm amazed how you can start your day so calmly and "balanced," showering, doing your hair, getting the kids ready for school and heading out the door to work. Marvelous! No director, make-up person, grip, video technician, grief counseling coach, etc., just you ! - Glad you were "called" to do this. 🙏❤😃
You are what most people are not meaning efficient, prompt, organized, friendly, caring and the plus list goes on. I never get tired of your face or your voice making everything understandable..Thanks Kari and be good to yourself and find a day for just you...spa, massage 😊
Kari, Your compassion, empathy and professionalism are palpable! I've only watched a couple videos of your work, but I feel like your the good neighbor next door. Totally someone I could relate to and laugh with! Anyways, be safe out there and continue being who God created you to be! God bless!
You are the reason why so many people are and will be comfortable with this subject when the time comes. I hope you understand the true value of your work ethics, videos, and words. Thank you.
Hello Kari! Thank you for all that you do in the mortuary business. Such a very busy, almost non-stop job. And you perform your duties with serenity and sensitivity. Thank you! 🌻
The Florist!!! Only a decent, reliable, trusted one though who works in conjunction with the Funeral Director. I have cried while making casket covers for many people. Most I knew, working in a small town and being an aged care nurse in my early 20's. Viewng flowers, a corsage or buttonhole, Small flowers for babies... I have so much respect for everyone involved in the heartbreak and complete care of our beautiful work.
I love your videos. I’ve gotten a little behind. This has always interested me and I learn so much from you. The more I listen to you the less fears and the more peace I have regarding death. You have taken something that in some ways has seemed a bit dark and scary and brought it to light in a way that is very un frightening. Just a natural part of life but no one really speaks of it so naturally there are many fears and questions. You do a wonderful job of answering these questions in the most compassionate and professional way. Removing many fears for many folks I am sure. Thank you for the time you put into these videos.
Hi Kari , The last four years of my working days I had to start my day about the same time you do. Now that I'm retired it would take something special to make me get up that early ☺
Y'all popped up randomly in my feed so I thought I would check it out. I'm not at all afraid of death and I really appreciate how y'all humanize the process of caring for the deceased. My mamaw died 9-1-22 entombed in her mausoleum 9-2-22 she was 97 they did amazing she was so beautiful. Died of dementia so she lost a little weight by 12th day no food or water. But she had everything paid and set up. Even obit written. It was so nice . And you’re beautiful! I love your voice and way of explaining
You are too kind, thank you. And thank you for sharing about your experience. Having things completely in place in advance can be very helpful to family members.

Hi Kari, I really enjoy watching your videos. You are so informative and respectful. I love your Q&A videos as well as showing us around the funeral home and preparation rooms. You rock!
Thanks for making this Kari because my husband just died last month November 11th of 2021 we weren't even part of knowing what and how they were going to have him laid out because I have a rotten MIL and rotten but the funeral director Paul he was so nice to me I was even allowed to be at the service but I caught Paul and he told me that was allowed to come before anybody else the Funeral was 3 to 7 and I wanted to bring my son my cat and myself and he let us do that we spent like an hour and 45 minutes there by myself because when we went we had my best friend my son myself and my mother Gigi and boy was there a ruckus from my ex husband's mother and the niece but Paul the funeral director told them how it was and he really made me feel welcome there even though the family did not!! So thank you for taking us through Kari and telling us what actually happens when a loved one dies cuz I really appreciate it 🌹♥️♥️
Hubby and I were the cemetery sextons locally for 11 years. WOW Had forgotten all that was involved even for us once your job is done. Getting cemeteries where service is to be done all freshly mowed and weed eating done watered but withholding water in certain areas to be able to access the grave. Lining up the backhoe. Locating the grave site and mostly even meeting with the family so they can choose the plot. They always called at diner time and I had to drop everything to meet them out there. Tried to always relieve as much of the stress off the family as possible. Setting up for the burials, parking the cars when needed leaving space close to set up for those physically disabled to be able to get close to the shelter where the services were done. Trying to answer questions that were not answered by the funeral directors. I can not even imagine doing your job. Just our part was so emotionally draining. A burial took us all day and some times finishing clean up using truck headlights. Winter burials in deep snow and bitter cold were the worst. One time we had to do two burials back to back in 2 below one day and zero degrees the second day. In the end it was good to know we did our very best to not stress the families further. Bless you for what you do.
@@ashesnegron3632 LOL Thank you. I would not have a clue how to do so. No camera or even cell phone to use. I am pretty techno challenged. From viewing the funeral home in this video, I confess that funeral directors and directresses work as hard like other typical people in their jobs. The funeral director has great responsibilities as an important asset to the community, especially during this coronavirus pandemic.

Thank you Kari for sharing your work with us; We just lost an Uncle in the Philippines.....who was cremated.....We’ve been praying a 9 Day Novena for the repose of his soul (on Zoom) with All the relatives throughout the world; We all followed the procession from the Church (after the Mass).........then all of a sudden we see his body out of his white casket.........and he’s on the gurney in front of the (what i assumed was the Crematorium). The young man pressed a button (we couldn’t believe they were showing this to us)......and then they slid his body into the machine and lowered the shiny, brass door covering. Anyway, i became curious about cremation and discovered your interesting channel. You really help to educate the public about matters such as this. GOD Bless you in ALL you do.......and your Family!!!😍
Wish more funeral directors were more like Kari. She presents the funeral business with professionalism, kindness & truth...a rare combination today. When she is at the neighborhood picnic, does she have that 'welcome look'??? Kidding, of course...I couldn't resist a little funeral-director humor. Thanks for sharing a day-in-the-life of a funeral director...something we all should know.
Wow that's a huge funeral home, my local funeral homes only have two visitation rooms.. that funeral home is four times bigger than my local funeral home.. very interesting vlog Kari I loved it.. you are the best funeral director in the world..
Curious, how many people have their arrangements done in advance? Thank you for what you do and caring about the families and the deceased like you do. You hear all too often of the horror stories about funeral homes doing awful things. I know I personally couldn’t do it. I’m way too sensitive and would probably cry all the time.
Goes in spurts really. Used to be more people walked in to make prearrangements more and it slowed for a while but I think it is picking back up again,
You are one busy gal. I enjoyed tagging along with you at you job. If I was in your vicinity (I am in SC), I would highly recommend you. You are very professional and obviously trustworthy, caring and respectful in all aspects. Definitely a thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You're videos are so interesting and educational. Thank you for taking the time to explain so much. The families you help are truly blessed to have someone like you at such a difficult time.
Lol! I can't imagine u being cranky. U just seem so nice. I miss when my kids were little because I loved snuggling with them. They're adults now 😪. Balancing a job and a family is hard work so I think it's cool how u can get a workout in.
I'm amazed by the amount of detail that you put into taking care of one funerall. Have you ever had a casket not deliver on time? If so, how did you handle that?
man i can’t even get up to hardly make it to work in time - snuggles will have to do WHEN MY EYELIDS stay open - ur so disciplined. AND you have too many things to do , my word
I remember before you saying you did free lance work. Were you filling in for someone at this particular funeral home? I hope you're able to do more vlog style videos like this in the future!
Motherhood and work balance is definitely my challenge. I work 911 and 12 hour shifts so between days off and life, being mom is a priority but the balance is an art for sure! My son will be 5 soon and just started Kindergarten.
Soooo much busy work! Sooo much product. I guess we just never get away from the consumer life, even in death. A bit sad, that part. Wish it all a bit simpler. So complicated. And I’ve been a nurse for 30 years, not much surprises me.
Wow......who knew!!! Thanks for sharing this info Kari. Very interesting, I'm used to just walking in, never behind the scenes or thought about it. I love your videos. 🌹🌹
You are such a caring beautiful soul. I think families are happy or made to feel better about their loved one. Your so caring that you would be my choice if I lived across the US...I am in Washington State. But I have lost my only 2 brothers at young ages in two seperate accidents, my oldest sister to Cancer and my parents...it is just my sister and I left her so I wonder a lot on what happens. I am NOT afraid of death as all my family except my sister are passed. Thank you for explaining things so well
Hi kari i like that you show yourself with without any make up and hair messy it shows you don't take yourself to seriously and that I find very attractive in a women.
I have those jammies!! Lol. After watching several of your videos, I’m so grateful for the time that our funeral home took with each of our parents when they passed. My Mom was in a nursing home, which was awful. I was shocked at how natural and “normal” she looked. In regards to the snuggle with kiddos, never turn it down.... it’ll disappear before ya know it.
Have you ever arrived at the cemetery following a funeral and found that the grave had not been opened yet? I know of one situation where that happened and of course it had to be opened while the family was present.
Kari, a look into one day of yours is a lot. Even though it was slow at this facility you did fantastically at staying very busy. Thanks for showing us around. I'll bet it's so different at every individual funeral home. Where do you get most of your knowledge? Hands on experiences? All your communications with many others? I'll bet it's a combination of everything. Thank you for all you do.
Kari, I just saw three of your videos. I am very impressed with your professionalism and well as your true concern for the entire process! I'm not sure where you work, but would love to use your services...when my time comes!
Hi Kari...I do BB workouts too. Four years this May...although I have fallen off the wagon a bit. Gotta get back at it. Your videos are interesting and you are so polite about being sensitive towards families. 💖
Kari Northey I Hard started 21 DFRT and was feeling stronger and then pulled a muscle, making me have spasms that almost made me cry. So here’s to both of us getting back at it! ❤️
P.S. After hearing that my mother worked in the funeral home, (in her teens)…..I always thought I’d want to do the same but my life had twists and turns. I do wish we had many lives, there has always been so many things I wanted to try….I have always been called “a Jill of all trades”….just never had time for the mortician, not anyway yet! Won’t be long though…I’m 83yo!😉
On the ironing.. Downy wrinkle releaser is a God Send! Hang pants or what ever up the night before( or when you pull them fro the drier) . Spritz and run your hands down the legs . You can snap them seem to seem too if you want. BAM fresh pretty looks ironed pants but you didnt!
Liberty Hussein wow I have lived in ct for allmost two years now and didn’t know that , because I lived in mass before I moved and I know back home where I lived . They were a family owned business and the houses definitely were not old homes
So I had a interview/meeting with some funeral directors at a local funeral home. They have done a lot of my families funerals when there was a passing and I know the owner really well. I am about to start shadowing and possibly doing a career change!
I work in a dental office and ppl always comment that “it smells like a dental office” Eugenol (cloves), glutaraldehyde, etc…I love that you said “It smells like a funeral home” cuz some people don’t have a strong sense of smell. For me…Walmarts always smell similar..😂..can you describe what a “funeral home” smells like. I just found your channel and it’s wonderful! It’s such a helpful channel, because most people are very curious about the whole process of death and prep of the deceased, but don’t want to necessarily announce that. I feel that in the past, ppl were much more in touch with mortality and these days, it’s rather “whitewashed” as we don’t like to think of death and the process there in. I read about a psychological study done in the 1950’s, where one could have a whole room filled with people and within 15 mins have everyone in an absolute panic state when they actually really understood that they will, someday, cease to exist. It’s a fear we push to the back of our minds.. thank you for helping us deal with our own curiosities and fears. Also thank you for telling us that you occasionally have the same fears we all do about dying. And truly, thank you for what you do, it’s a special person that can handle this occupation with sincerity, compassion and respect. Sry such a long text 🙂
I Kari, im a subscriber and just started watching your feeds, I do have a question. I have my future cremation for myself arranged but I was wondering if I have to be embalmed for a viewing before my cremation. the place I chose I am not able to get straight forward answers. Im paying towards the cremation at this time monthly..I had set it up while I was very ill and in a rehab center to get better. I wasnt expected to survive but here I am..i survived..I felt forced to make the arrangements and I dont think i get a refund if I cancel the plan and go somewhere else..the crematon facilility is far from my home but now having 2nd thoughts. most funeral homes I looked at online dont seem to offer monthly pmnt plans . im in Pennsylvania. if you cant offer your opinion thats understandable. thanks

Thank you!!
She's amazing!!!
You're videos are so interesting and educational. Thank you for taking the time to explain so much. The families you help are truly blessed to have someone like you at such a difficult time.
YOU are SO SWEET! Thank you for sharing with us.
Wow, that's a lot involved. Thank you for your hard work.
Your beautiful inside and out thank you for your caring of families at the hardest time in their lives
Thank you so much!
Thank you for doing this video. You seem to be a perfect fit for your job. Knowledgeable and so kind.
Thank you!
Love this video Kari is so confident and does a great job ..
I appreciate that!!
😁 have a great day , Kari
I really loved this!! Thank you
You are welcome!
Makeup & Menopause good question!
Never a casket, but I always worry I ordered the vault or called everyone
man i can’t even get up to hardly make it to work in time - snuggles will have to do WHEN MY EYELIDS stay open - ur so disciplined. AND you have too many things to do , my word
Kari, This video is great! So much information, so many functions ! You need a bigger coffee cup to get thru a day like this! Thank you!
I don't know if coffee works anymore lol
I use to work with the Pre-Need Dept for the Catholic Cemeteries in Los Angeles - Holy Cross in Culver City being my favorite!❤️❤️❤️
Such a huge market there
I remember before you saying you did free lance work. Were you filling in for someone at this particular funeral home? I hope you're able to do more vlog style videos like this in the future!
I do quite a bit at this one location.
Kari, is it common for funeral directors to work free lance like you do?
Can you explain a little more about how that’s done?
Kari you are an amazing person an INCREDIBLE ROLE MODEL ❤LOVE WATCHING YOU WORK You have Soothing voice
Thank you so much!
@@KaritheMortician you're welcome 😊❤
Motherhood and work balance is definitely my challenge. I work 911 and 12 hour shifts so between days off and life, being mom is a priority but the balance is an art for sure! My son will be 5 soon and just started Kindergarten.
Focus on him!
Soooo much busy work! Sooo much product. I guess we just never get away from the consumer life, even in death. A bit sad, that part. Wish it all a bit simpler. So complicated. And I’ve been a nurse for 30 years, not much surprises me.
It is simple in the grand scheme
Wow......who knew!!! Thanks for sharing this info Kari. Very interesting, I'm used to just walking in, never behind the scenes or thought about it. I love your videos. 🌹🌹
You are welcome!
You make it feel at ease when I go one day I 🙏 I have someone like you handling my case
Thank you!
Did you record the career day you did? I'd love to show my 15 year old, who is trying to figure out what she wants to go to college for.
I did not
You are such a caring beautiful soul. Thank you for explaining things so well
Now that's one AWESOME video!!!
Poor kari we pray for you every morning before we start our day here at Laughter-Earley your awesome
Awww thanks!
@@KaritheMortician I wanted to ask you something what is the worst thing to ever happen to you in a crematory just curious
Ms. Kari, you definitely get me excited to start my line of work!
The snuggle is real! This was such a neat video! Thank you for sharing!
So basically you are an Event Planner! Cool!! That is a lot of details that I never thought about. Thank you!
Pretty much!
Hi kari i like that you show yourself with without any make up and hair messy it shows you don't take yourself to seriously and that I find very attractive in a women.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Very informative video. It answered a lot of my questions. Thank you.
You are welcome!
I love your schedule I bet your day goes by so quickly!
It does!
Your family should be so proud of you and i've learned a lot .
I'm a new subscriber and i wanna say that your videos are very interesting and instructive..Thanks!
Have you ever arrived at the cemetery following a funeral and found that the grave had not been opened yet? I know of one situation where that happened and of course it had to be opened while the family was present.
Not yet thankfully!
Excellent video! Very informative and interesting. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Thank you Kari for all of the information that we need to know. You are certainly a professional. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much!
Kari, I just saw three of your videos. I am very impressed with your professionalism and well as your true concern for the entire process! I'm not sure where you work, but would love to use your services...when my time comes!
Thank you so much! I am in SW Michigan :)
Kari the Mortician I'm near Boston! 🙃
Hi Kari...I do BB workouts too. Four years this May...although I have fallen off the wagon a bit. Gotta get back at it. Your videos are interesting and you are so polite about being sensitive towards families. 💖
Yes I need to start hard again this next week and stick to one program.
Thank you :)
Awesome!
That is like funeral homes here in Massachusetts. Most are old homes.
:)
Same here where I am in Connecticut. Actually, every funeral home I can think of is an old house.
Liberty Hussein wow I have lived in ct for allmost two years now and didn’t know that , because I lived in mass before I moved and I know back home where I lived . They were a family owned business and the houses definitely were not old homes
I don’t know why but I like funeral home tours plus old styles Hearses
:)
Aw your baby is beautiful omg he’s sooo cute.
I have no boy babies
So I had a interview/meeting with some funeral directors at a local funeral home. They have done a lot of my families funerals when there was a passing and I know the owner really well. I am about to start shadowing and possibly doing a career change!
That is awesome!
@@KaritheMortician thank you! I feel it could be a calling because I love working with others and helping people so I feel it’s up my alley
:)
Good job, Kari!
You were made to do this job . Very good video !!!
Thanks 👍
I Kari, im a subscriber and just started watching your feeds, I do have a question. I have my future cremation for myself arranged but I was wondering if I have to be embalmed for a viewing before my cremation. the place I chose I am not able to get straight forward answers. Im paying towards the cremation at this time monthly..I had set it up while I was very ill and in a rehab center to get better. I wasnt expected to survive but here I am..i survived..I felt forced to make the arrangements and I dont think i get a refund if I cancel the plan and go somewhere else..the crematon facilility is far from my home but now having 2nd thoughts. most funeral homes I looked at online dont seem to offer monthly pmnt plans . im in Pennsylvania. if you cant offer your opinion thats understandable. thanks
Awesome video, very helpful. Please do more “day in a life of” videos
Yesss. I agree!
I will!
I just started my apprenticeship today I love it!
Yeah!!
Great video, how often do u take a vacation? Or do u not take one? Whew what an exhausting career, but someone has 2 do it. Thank u for ur work, well done❤
I am a freelance employee so I can take one when I want really but I do business trips a few times a year and usually two trips with my family
I'm not sure if you can answer this or wish to but I take it you work in more than one funeral home, by what you were saying? The profession I was in has many employees working in more than one establishment.
Yes I work for several businesses
Fascinating viewing kari.
