My all time favourite black and white film. I guess we are beyond hope that Kodak will bring it back even if there were some rumours about it a few years ago. Maybe just shoot Ilford FP4+ and be happy about what we still have.

Cheer up Noah! You did capture the smooth midtones and grain of Plus-X -- which differentiated it from Tri-X -- even with the age.... I bought a bulk loader that had about 50 feet of a mystery BW film in it. Mike Raso of the FPP suggested that I load one canister and shoot a wide range of ISOs (with a sign for each), get it developed and scanned and see which came out best. The best photo was at ISO 6!! But on the edge of the film was the Kodak stock number -- and it turned out to be Panatomic-X -- just need to prep myself for shooting a bunch of rolls at ISO 6 -- but it actually looked pretty good.... And you cannot beat a film with the word 'atomic' in the name!!!

thumbs up for the transparent review of the process (we've all been there with this finicky medium we call film) and two thumbs up for the hair

It was my dad’s favourite film when shooting professionally. He rated at 200 iso so that he could process it in the same tank as Tri-x rated at box speed.

Certainly my favorite for 120, and PANATOMIC-X for 35mm is 💋

Don't worry. Spending a few days developing colour film I took last year, noticed some specks of white appearing at one end of a roll. Oh, I know what that is, because I'm a clever sort of chap, it's a build up of silver on the inside of my fix bottle. What did I do the following day, developed a roll of film without cleaning out the fix bottle, lovely arcadian summer views of landscapes with what looks like a snowstorm of silver halides over every frame ... duh !

I have that camera at 10:18 and a 100 sheet box of Plus-X 5X4 in the fridge.

Would we know success if we didn't fail once in a while? You're a brave person and/or madman for those large format shenanigans on expired unknown film. I can understand why people liked this film, there are a lot of different midtones going on in there. Even the sky has tones in it, even though I think you didn't use any filters on the camera.
re:development issues -> If you develop in old paterson tanks and have lots of parts from different decades like I do, you can mix and match a combination where the reel can slightly lift out of the liquid when doing inversions. Some of the vintage tanks have a little C-shaped spacer that goes onto the center shaft to keep this from happening.

I’ve not yet found a b&w film stock that I like more than Plus X for 16mm cinematography. I recently acquired some in 3x4 and 4x5 that I’ll use in an old Graflex Crown Graphic with a flash or one of my large view cameras.. expired film artifacts or not. As always, a great video Noah!

I just loaded some Ansco film that expired in 1957 into one of my cameras. Now I'm waiting for a bright sunny day.

One of my favorite features of Plus-X Professional was that the emulsion side was surfaced for retouching. Lovely tonality, yes, but it was simplicity itself to fill in dust spots and scratches. *Sigh* I shot quite a bit of it, along with Technical Pan.

Thanks for reminding me why I steer clear of expired film. I see neat photos on IG with expired film and I am tempted. But to spend $$ for processing and scanning only to get unsatisfactory results … yeah, no thanks.
I enjoyed your video just the same. Thanks for creating it.

Wonderful film. My darkroom photography teacher always spoke very highly about it.
FP4+ shall have to do in its place... Not that it's a problem, FP4+ is wonderful in its own right.

I’m glad you were able to get around to shooting the 120 rolls. Sorry you weren’t super happy with the results. I still have a handful of them in the fridge I need to do something with because they’re not getting any younger…

Just to let you know incase you doing. The music you play at the begging of your videos is the jingle that was used by Harlech Television and that it's still under copyright to ITV. Just incase your get a copyright claimed from ITV PLC Group.

Hey, could you do a tutorial on doing stop motion with a film camera? I looked everywhere and I couldn’t find it anywhere.

Could've used some contrast filters for those 4x5 shots to get more out of them. And some QU plates may help with setup of that 4x5....
Heck, you can tilt-shift the lens so take advantage of that in your compositions.

Hi Noah could you tell me if it is still possible to buy polaroid ONE600 film ? I found my sons camera in the cellar which was never used and would like to try it - there was film in the camera but the battery was dead so id like to buy new film pack thanx

    • @AnalogResurgence
      @AnalogResurgence  2 місяці тому +1

Yes! Polaroid still makes Polaroid 600 film. Polaroid themselves are the only company that makes the film for those cameras.

Aesthetically considered the worst film for any fine art B&W by some. would it be better if the personal film speed was determined, along with the standard development time?
