ive noticed guitar store employees tend to be wannabes. Not all im sure but most of the ones ive met seem to think working for a music store gives them some kind of credibility(? or something?).. you can feel the snobbery coming off some of these minimum wage folks. Not all of course id never stereotype an entire group. But im thinking theres a certain subset who go there for that very reason

    • @QuikdethDeviantart

Right. It’s NOT a contest, and there are no prizes for shrederrific flailing of the guitar. It’s not a concert, either. Most loud players only annoy others who are trying to make decisions. Honestly I usually only spend a few minutes to decide (assuming I can hear myself) then I take it home and if it really sucks return it within specified period, which takes all that pressure off you. Let’s face it, you’re “trying out” stuff, so you might not be comfortable with it yet or maybe ever... I have a 7 string that makes me feel like a noob because it’s very wide neck with fairly high action. I would hate to be judged by my ability on that particular guitar. I once flubbed a band tryout because my amp crapped out after the first song and I had to borrow an amp that I didn’t know how to dial in my tone on and I felt like it was fighting me. You shouldn’t be quick to judge because you don’t know if the persons having a bad day or they just suck! 😝

Drum City was a few doors away and I would clean them out of Ginger Baker drum sticks, once he walked in and asked for some, the assistant pointed at me and said he's just bought them all. I did give a pair back for Ginger and we went for a beer. Crazy days.

The full story behind Rory's guitar is that it was stolen off him and at the time the story got onto a crimewatch tv show in Ireland. The guy who stole it was probably afraid that he'd be caught after that so he chucked it into a field and it was lying there for a few days/ got rained on etc. before it was found and a lot of the wear was a result of that. There's a video on his official UA-cam channel with his nephew telling the story.

The Guitar Center stores in the Los Angeles area, those I've visited in Hollywood, Sherman Oaks and Northridge, are almost always busy. So many musicians out here! I often bump into known players, too. Jam sessions break out at any time. Like, someone will be fooling around with a chord sequence and someone across the room starts soloing over it. Dudes checking out amps and pedals crank away...

They will be adding another hang tag on this: “The Mary Spender Tribute version of the Rory Gallagher model, played by Mary Spender on September 3, 2018, and featured in her Tuesday Talks September 4, 2018 episode.
Mary, when you go to Rudy’s. You must absolutely ask to play the red Tal Farlow Gibson ES-140 3/4 size guitar. There was just an article in Sunday’s New York Times with a photo of Guy Pearce checking it out. It’s the coolest little guitar.
Ah, piecing together the Vigier Mary Spender model. Sparkles? check, F-hole?check. Relic? Hmm...
Do you know Rhett Shull? Cool guy. Friend of Rick Beato. He has an absolutely horrid looking relic sparkle Novo guitar. They’re super expensive, but he thinks they’re really great. Keep your eyes open for one you should come across the name.

Marlon Artsyrobo I think what Mary meant is that she was "the worst player at Guitar Center" because she plays slower pieces with talent and feeling, rather than jerking off at 300bpm and pretending to be some sort of Slash/Eddie Van Halen hybrid

Just discovered your channel Mary. Immediately subscribed. Love your enthusiasm and I share your appreciation for guitars of all types. Bought my first guitar at a guitar center in St. Louis. What I love about them (or at least the one I shopped most at) was I never once had someone try to sell me something more than they knew I needed. In fact they talked me into buying a used guitar and amp when I made my first purchase. I still have them. I now live in another city and shop at another Guitar Center and they too are always helpful and knowledgeable. Inventory always changes week to week. I've purchased some real steals. Great that you got to go to one in NY. Thank you for showing us around. They pretty much all have the same vibe but each one a but different. I cracked up at the typical songs you hear guitarists play. I always hear Stairway or Hendrix. what do you hear the most? Keep up the great work.

You are not the worst player in the guitar store you are very different and your music is fresh. Is it possible that she does not know how good she is or is she just that modest. I wish she would do a video on her techniques on how she plays he picking hand is just crazy hard. Well it is crazy hard for me I can keep up with her fretting hand but people that play in "finger technique " sound so good to my ear. This is just one more reason why guitars are my favorite instrument there are so many techniques, styles, and sounds. There is not another instrument like it in my book and don't listen to people that say the guitar is dead. They just like creating a fear the guitar will always be alive and change to keep up with new music

Just so you know Mary Guitar Center doesn't touch a guitar before they hang in on the wall.
The strings usually are rusty and the set up is far from good. They aren't going to spend time and money if they don't have to.
Not sure what they do In England.
To answer your question of what happens is The staff are gathered in one spot hiding from customers or on their cell phones trying to act busy so they ignore you.
I head off to the used section because thats where the really good guitars are.

The last time I walked into a guitar store in NYC.. it was Manny's Music in 1984. I went up to the third floor and camped out for 5 hours playing about 8 guitars and 5 amps... they were all loaners with some very accomplished musician names on the tags.
