Great video man! If anyone reads this the main thing u need to avoid from my experience is try not to leave your gator idling very long at all. 5 min here and 10 min there and it will clog up in no time. Run it like u always do just don't leave it idling and u shouldn't have this problem. Also put it in low when going up steep hills.. basically put it in low if u think it will bog down. JD makes a killing off of this little cleaning job and i they will even replace the exhausts system instead of cleaning it. I have 3 625i and a diesel 650 "I could be wrong about the number" I've never had this problem with the diesel and of course they smoke more but it doesn't have that damn exhaust system like the new models. Basically the same as a California filter on a weedeater that gets clogged up.
It has 1 screw on the passenger side.. just take that off and clean inside of the spark arrester out with a screw driver then blow it out with an air compressor or even canned air and u will notice a huge difference. Once u get the debris cleaned out clean the wire mesh with brake cleaner to get the soot off. While it is off either take it for a ride or leave in neutral and hold it wide open to blow out any junk that was back up inside the exhaust. Personally I wouldn't put the spark arrester back on unless u are in a drought but keep it and put it back on if u take it to the dealership for any reason just to be safe because the way they are they could say that voids your warranty. It runs so much better without that and after owning 5 gators and 6-8 ATVs and dirt bikes I have never had any sparks to come out that started a fire here in KY. Your just as likely to start a fire driving a farm truck
Oh and u didn't ask but I just wanted to throw this out there. The worst thing u can do to clog one up is leave it idling. Holding it wide open in neutral everytime before and after riding it will keep that soot from building up but as long as the spark arrestor is on it will clog up eventually. And when u take it off for the first time the screw will probably break.. they get rusty and they are just cheap small screws. U will probably have to get a hammer and punch or flat screw driver to knock the arrestor off for the first time. U could sand the rust off with Emory cloth so it will be easier next time u take it off. Good luck boss
Yep I had same with my gator 🐊 not not the carburetor not the fuel lines not the fuel filter not the air filter is that damn screen in the muffler plugged up runs good now
There is one screw holding it onto the end of the exhaust pipe. Remove that screw and just pull the arrestor off of the pipe. Might have to twist it just a little as you pull it off.
I have a 2016 825 i. And The throttle response and power is just not there any more great video UA-cam is great if you have a problem with something there’s always somebody that has had the same problem and will you will definitely learn how to fix it as well👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
My 6x4 gas gator with tha kawasaki motor just started missing and when you hold the idle high You can here it breaking up a bit and small backfired when you ride it around. I've got good plugs. Clean fuel filter and great flow from the fuel pump and I took off and cleaned out the carb which was already pretty clean. Is there anything else that would make it sound like it is breaking up a bit ?
On my TS gator spark arrestor was so plugged up ,upon start ups engine wouldn't run fast enough to even disengage the internal compression release. I never knew this gator even had a arrestor. I fixed mine with a screwdriver and a needle nose pliers.
Hi Todd great video. I have a 2010 gator hpx with a fd620d kawasaki. Full throttle mine bogs I've cleaned my spark arrestor no fibers just carbon build up. Changed spark plugs and tested spark. Disconnected fuel line down stream of fuel pump and good flow. When it's running the fuel filter has barely any fuel in the bowl? And I'm getting a milky foam inside the fuel cap? I checked the crankcase vent tube and it's clear plus the intake can all good? Any thoughts my friend I'd appreciate it. Thanks Ryan
Would the spark arrestor cause the engine to backfire sporadically on start up? Im guessing if you remove the screw and take it off could you clean it with brake clean and then put it back?
Yes it will back fire and eventually it will start missing so bad you can't drive it. Take it off and use a screw driver to get that shit out of there then an air compressor or can of air then brake cleaner.
Fuel filter or clogged lines would be my guess. Also you might have adjust the carb idle screw to fine tune the fuel intake. New pump could be pumping gas at a rate higher than old pump. Make sense?
Hey I know this is an old video but I figured I'd ask anyway. I have a 2004 hpx gator trail my problem is if will not crank I've got spark compression is 150psi fuel is good and It is getting to the chambers every once in a while the engine will just die the I'm spark arrested seems clean enough any ideas what the problem could be?
Same thing happened to me. I had to replace the exhaust because the clogged up restricter caused so much soot buildup back inside the exhaust I could get it to run and it would run fine for 30 minutes or so then all of a sudden it would lose power and start sputtering and die. Once it died I would have to leave it there for 30 minutes before it would start. Take your ristrictor off and ride it and see how it does. U might could tap the exhaust with a hammer then run it wide open to blow any buildup out
this side by side is getting fuel, and has plenty of spark, but doesnt want to start. I have exhaust coming out of the air filter, is it caused by a plugged exhaust? Or do i have to do the timing on it? Its a john deere gator xuv835m
Your exhaust is probably clogged up. If u cleaned the restrictor already I would tap your exhaust in a few places with a hammer and see if that loosen the soot buildup. I had to replace the exhaust on mine it was so bad. If u get it running I would keep the restrictor off unless you are in a bad drought
What bring me to UA-cam? Hmm, I have an 825i gator that, well, just doesn't run right. (Doesn't sound quite right either.. thought I had bad fuel, nope) So, next step, errr.. the spark arrestor... (to be continued)
@@Ugot2BkddnMe check the fuel pump in the tank, and also injectors. I have a 2012 825i that's been problematic and I bought it new. 2000 miles, 600 hours, and it has had two sets of injectors, one fuel pump, three starters.
@@ScottHD After a bit of frustration, i located a very slight cut in the #1 sparkplug wire. A few months later, some buzzing noise led to the replacement of the fuel pump. (80 bucks, from ebay, and 2 hours of my time). Knock on wood, been doin' great and I log 3-4 miles every day out in the cow pasture.
@@Ugot2BkddnMe good to hear! I had water get into one of my spark plugs holes that messed one of them up, so I did new plug wires as well and that fixed my latest issue!
As a John Deere tech, this is something that we just don’t tell customers, it’s something that DEERE themselves want us to tell the customer. We literally have a diagnoses system that tells us what to look for and what to inspect. DEERE says it just depends on how they drive their vehicle and they are half way correct. Sometimes shit just happens.
Yeah and this is why my family pushed 2 million of your products off our farm. I’ll never buy a Deere product ever again because of all the issues. Computers to clogged pipes. It was seriously every month. I’m sure you make a great living. Not your fault, but a Deere people use to dream of having! Now they push away and get rid of if they can.
So you want me... As a Deere employee... Who works on Deere products... That Deere tells us as techs what to look for and what we can and can't tell customers? I call bull shit on that... I have never been told what I can and can't tell a customer about there Deere product... But I'm also not a guy who just changes parts on a customer's unit... I go through and actually find the problem and discuss with DTAC if needed through CCMS and my managers if needed but... Our Deere customers are never left in the dark at my store... That is just unacceptable and it isn't the Deere way... Sorry @bryanking2857 you had a terrible Deere experience... I think I'd be pushing stuff off the property as well if I'd been treated as you described... That isn't what Deere teaches us or trains us to do as dealerships employees.

Been having the exact problem. Even if it does not fix my problem, thanks for info.

Todd I have the same gator and it has the exact issue. Can you tell me how you disassembled the spark arrestor?
There is one screw holding it onto the end of the exhaust pipe. Remove that screw and just pull the arrestor off of the pipe. Might have to twist it just a little as you pull it off.

What can cause the engine of a John Deere gaiter to stall out After you replace the Fuel pump?
I would like to know too mine is doing the same thing!
