lovely to hear the voice of one of Queen Victoria's children
I agree. Her favourite son.
I guess he is the only Queen Victoria's child who has voice recorded. Absolutely precious, like a jewel in the wide ocean.
Louise's voice is also recorded. There's a video of her opening a fair at Costermonger's, where she gives a short little speech and talks to someone. :)
There does exist a recording of Victoria's voice, but it's so scratchy that she's unintelligible. From what you can make out she sounds rather like the present queen.
yes and not hard to imagine that the rest of Victoria’s children spoke their English with perfect English accents when necessary and not in a German-speaking occasion.
So nice and amazing to hear the voice of one of Queen Victoria's children!!
Great hearing his voice
Amazing to think he was born in 1850.
" It gives me the greatest pleasure to appeal to a British public to spend their money and/or leisure in England this winter. And so, to help bring back prosperous times to our country. If the public will at the same time buy British or Empire goods, they will do much to assist our manufacturers and their work people. I am currently enjoying my visit to to this part of Devonshire, where the climate is so equable and so solid. And I hope that all, who wish to help their country, will spend their winter in Britain, unless ordered to other times....."
Love these old newsreels. Love the way narrator is able to say the words the British Riviera without laughing.
Torquay, Paignton, Brixham is known as the English Riviera
@@lsmith9249 Yes I know but I was thinking of the old Bill Byrson line that "St Petersburg is sometimes called the Russian Venice, although not so much by people who have been to the actual Venice."
@@mikegalvin9801 the Victorians nicknamed it the English Riviera because of the warm climate
When he looks directly at the camera he looks like Charles III
I would think that his parents, Victoria and Albert, had far more Germanic accents. Apparently no recording of the Queen's voice exists. Pity!
Richard Lawson There is a recording of Queen Victoria, but it is very distant. One barely hear her voice.
In the days and times when the Royal Family supported the true people of the British Isles . Not anymore.
The Duke of Connaught was so patriotic! I am appalled.
why are you appalled? he is proud of his country.
This must have been right after the first war.
Katheryne Koelker more likely during the Great Depression in the 30’s.
@Allan Ros Between wars then (closer to the Second War).
I don't know if I'm imagining things but can anyone else hear a, very slight, German accent in his voice? In certain words for example "pleasure" or "appeal to the british public" . I could be wrong and it could just be his upper class accent and way of speaking.
Considering that his father ,Prince Albert , must have spoken English with a definite German accent and his mother Queen Victoria was 3/4 German - a trace of a German accent was certainly possible . In my opinion it can be heard here in his ' r ' consonants .
