God gave this man a great talent, and he loved performing. He passed due to Alzheimer's, but fought (and performed) every step away. I was lucky enough to have seen one of his last performances, and he passed not to long after he "retired". It was truly amazing how his voice endured through the last performance. The world lost a wonderful talent when we lost him. RIP, Mr. Campbell! 😢💔

I think strenghth lies in steadfastness. Parents need to be strong but fair. They are the boss. We got soft in the 80s and 90s. My parents were born in 1930. After greatest generation before baby boomer.
Our affluence in general gave us entitlement. Into the 70s and 80s kids had to contribute money to the home or have no roof or food. I remember seeing kids getting a second soda out to eat. I was shocked. We had to work as a unit to survive not entitled isolated babies.

CAN'T hold a candle meaning...... The phrase can't hold a candle to has its roots in the 1600s, when the lowly apprentice to a master of a craft might only be fit to hold a candle in order to provide light for the master while he tends to a problem. An apprentice who was not even skillful enough to hold a candle for his master was worthless, indeed.

Here on UA-cam, there are remastered versions of both By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Witchita Lineman. The are both songs written by Jimmy Webb an awesome writer and Glen Campbell did fantastic jobs with both. They have been part of my life along with the lives of so many others for many years and may well be on my short list of what I'll want to hear from my deathbed. Check both out. It'll be time wonderfully spent. And I'll warn you now. You won't stop at one listen only.

I think I woud contact them about your ads. This morning when I started watching this video, there was two ads at the beginning, my speakers was not working so I had to stop watching and fix the problem and then come back and start from the beginning. This time though, there was not any ads at the beginning.
The preformer that people are the most critical about when it comes to others singing his songs is MJ, you always see comments like "There will never be anyone that is as good as him again" When I read that I'm thinking "yea, that's because ya'll are not willing to give anyone else a chance"
Oh, I don't know if you have watched or done a video on "Living For the City" were Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder is singing it on stage or not. It a great video, I can watch it over and over again, Ray Charles is having a time of his life, you can tell he's really enjoying it. If you haven't watched it, check it out,

    Glen and Stevie: ua-cam.com/video/0oSQn20V0m0/v-deo.html
This is a great duet from 1969. What makes it even greater is reading the comments. Glen Campbell was never considered "cool," and many people never followed his career for that reason. Then after his death, people hit UA-cam to hear some of his hits, and found a whole lot more than they expected to find. Like me, they realized that they'd missed a consummate performer. A guitar god. An outstanding singer with an amazing range. An entertainer extraordinaire. And WHAT A HUNK! So, Glen was rediscovered by a whole new generation after his passing. For any of y'all who are curious about his many talents, search YT for his videos.

The origin of holding a candle: Apprentices used to be expected to hold the candle so that more experienced workmen were able to see what they were doing. Someone unable even to do that would be of low status indeed.

    Most likely it was Glenn
Campbell who played on Stevies album -He played guitar on thousands of songs without credit on the album. In 1962 (63?) he played on over 600 hit songs -
Its a shame the tv people had to throw in all the fluff.

The first song of his that I remember listening to was Rhinestone Cowboy. He was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. You should watch some of his videos where he shows off on guitar. Between him, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, and others from that era, you’ll understand where some Rock n Roll artists got their ideas.
Here he is playing the 1812 Overture on a 12 string electric guitar, played fast and clean (and maybe even something that inspired Stevie Ray years later!). ua-cam.com/video/jjTI4VRX39Y/v-deo.html

This is what I found, old sayings sometimes seem obscure. I love finding the origin, sometimes they make perfect sense but become outdated because times are always a'changin', haha.! 😁😂
Origin: Before electric lights, someone performing a task in the dark needed a helper to hold a candle to provide light while the task was performed. ... Someone who is not even qualified to hold the candle is much less competent than the person performing the actual task.
