This is a masterpiece. Euro papa= Euro dad, because papa is dad in Dutch. A sad song with lyrics with a meaning, with a message, in a happy hardcore melody of the 90's. A letter to his father who died when he was a 12 year old child. His mother past away a year later. He promised his father that he will be someday on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His father told him that it is possible because there are no borders between the countries, and no limits to follow his dream. Borders and limitations are made by human. In every country he went, he felt the pain and grief of no having his parents. The fire symbolise letting go of the grief and pain, and the start of a new chapter in his live.

This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is happy hardcore - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, also called gabber music. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.

When you look at the subtitles or background of this song then you know the real meaning of this song and his Words. It’s look funny, but it means so much more.. that’s why it has this ending.. Joost is playing with words and makes art of it.. example Florida 2009… opposite of this song.. his heart is on the right place 🙏🏻🙏🏻

2:26 if you like that scenery you should really visit the Netherlands, just don't expect much other scenery that flat green grass.
Upside is if you have a visa for the Netherlands you can travel in the Schengen area, which covers quite a few countries. And Germany, Belgium and France are what in the US would be a grocery trip away.
Like he says himself it's a song with a 90's vibe with today's vieuw on the world. Dedicated to his parents because he watched the songfestival with his parents as a kid and now he's preforming there and made it. Unfortunally his parents can't see it,he lost them when he was 12/13 years old.
The burning part means sometimes you have to let go off the past to get forwards. There is a time to grieve and a time to let go and move forward again but not forgotten.
If you search the personal history of Joost and then put this song and video together, with his story, you will find and understand all the layers:
- both his parents died in the '90's ( the age of the hardcore etc)
- he was just a child when that happened ( in an interview about this song and clip he told to never want to loose his inner child, that makes it funny, maybe weird for a lot)
- his father said the world is without boundaries, but people create boundaries, so you can create the world
- when he was young, every year he watched the eurovision song festival with his parents and shared his dream with his parents. Which was to also wanted to be there on stage, performing and representing the Netherlands
- still every where he goes ( in Europe) it doesn't take away the loss and pain
- the sudden end: from happy hardcore, dancing, smiling, hard!! To....a really abrupt silence, burning his fundament, his family, his house, his home and where he comes from....i think this represents how it was for him to suddenly loose his father...and a year later his mother...from partying and no worries at all....to : wtf...what is happening...a total silence...disbelief and destruction
I would skip it too, until you hear it for the third time and by that time it will have glued itself inside your brain.
Thank you for taking this emotional rollercoaster. My Recap : You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.
This is actually the first reaction where someone actually managed to wholehearted complete oblivion to the meaning of the song. Seriously, even though you don’t have subtitles on, if you look close to the video you see a double emotional baseline here.
The guy that never leaves his home from childhood to adult. The passive agressive frustrated PM, Joost that is seemingly growing frustrated and playbacks Euro Fuck towards the end, and then the revolt scene, and burning down at the end.

who in the scene with the three persons in the burning room the older person was not the older version of joost, but instead it was his father, and the young boy was meant to be his younger version of joost. When his father told him that europa (and the world) was borderless, then a few years later first his father and later his mother died.

This is ART As happy as this song sounds, it's a sad song. Actually, he describes his life in a few minutes; In the first verse, he talks about losing everything. An important part is the death of his parents when he was 12/13 years old. In the second verse, he talks about how alone and lonely he is. He also says that he needed help because of depression and homelessness and apparently did not get enough help. I don't understand the reference to stromai (bad in french). The leonardi da vinci (The Last Supper) scene may refer to one of his songs in which he sings that he is god. The Black Guy with 12 Point is a UA-camr who made clips about bulling. Joost has been bullied, and look at him now. If I remember correctly, his father once told him that he should keep writing poetry. The house with the mill is the place in which he grew up (with all the shit) and possibly burning it down (like you can do in therapy), taking a new step into a new world without borders in which he can do whatever he wants.
