Land Based Fishing Western Port

What a WOW moment this morning. So I headed out to one of my favorite local whiting haunts to do a little youtube filming on land based whiting. Of course, in typical fashion, even with the perfect tide and weather, no whiting.
Just as I was discarding some bait into the water, I notice some puffer fish making a meal of the wings. Within the blink of an eye, out of the seagrass shoots a monster rock flathead and devours the wing set. I quickly wind in one of my lines, cut off the rig and tie on a #6 Mustad Fishing Australia Bloodworm hook directly to the end of the 20lb leader. Not having the hooks to catch this fish, I thought bugger it, worth a try. Threading on another calamari wing, I flick it out unweighted and its get smashed....by a huge 6 spine leatherjacket. Then I cast out again and the flathead grabs it but as I pull him onto the rocks, he lets go of the bait and disappears. Frustrated, I grab my last calamari wing and toss it back in just has a breeze hits the waters surface and I can't see a thing. Just seeing the puffers making a meal of the bait, I decided to just leave it there and wait. A few minutes pass and I decided to wind in the line and all of a sudden it comes taught, I've hooked the bloody beast and lift it onto the rocks......So funny and so much fun.
Oh well, no whiting but what a nice consolation prize...
