  • Pariser Platz was recognized as one of the noblest squares of Berlin before its destruction in World War II. In its centre you can find the Brandenburg Gate, the best known landmark of the city. Many people remember the time in which this square was waste land and the Berlin wall stood behind the Gate. In 1961, it became the symbol of the separation of Germany. But this meaning changed immediately with the Fall of the Wall in 1989.

I can’t believe I’m the only one commenting on how amazing this video is! It was very informative and gave me a better sense of the Brandenburg Gate’s history.

well I'm here to find out why it's still standing. As an image of, former victories, with the kaiser, and Hitler's jackbooted savages triumphantly parading by. I'm amazed that the allies ( in particular the Soviets ) didn't destroy it fully.

I can not begin to imagine how the quadriga & Lady Victory was removed & sent to Paris by Napoleon (& subsequently returned 8 years later unscathed) ... & then to survive WWII ... just unreal....
