Great! I spent ages flashing my wifi Minis with Tasmota (and bricking half of them in the process) and now Sonoff come out with the ideal alternative which would slot into my extensive Zigbee mesh. It'll be interesting to see how these work with ZHA, if you have that.

ZBMini has finally been delivered to me. I must say I'm not satisfied with the quality of its power supply. It uses an capacitive dropper inside instead of transformer which means that the microcontroller, as well as its S1 and S2 outputs are not isolated from mains power supply. I prefer the design of Basic ZBR3 which has proper transformer.
Also, I'm not satisfied with the switch delay of this mini. It's below 500ms, but still noticeable. I'll try to modify the RC circuit near the S1 and S2 inputs in order to reduce debounce time, hoping that debounce delay is not implemented in software.

It also works with sonoff zigbee 3.0 usb dongle plus BUT you have to flash firmware !

Hello. Good job I switch to Zigbee since my bad experience with a DW2 door switch using obsolete 802.11b ... not working with Ubiquity AP. Anyway I would like to know if the ZBMINI can be powered with DC. I just need a device to monitor my garage door open/close status so I would power it with DC with a Reed switch. To your knowledge, is it possible ?

Yes you could. You need to power gpio directly and you won't be able to use the relay but the switch should work fine

Reason for flashing its firmware could be to add a temperatur sensor or other sensors

    • @notenoughtech

Dev pads are there. The main reason anyone is flashing is to drop the shackles of the cloud imposed.

Can I check if the zbmini functions as a zigbee router?
I have the zbmini connected to the sonoff hub and tried to connect a door sensor (also sonoff) but some how it is missing a 3 meters. Even when moving the zbmini 4 meters closer to the the door sensor it is still missing 3 meters.
So I was thinking that maybe the zbmini isn't working as the router, but I don't know how to check this.

    • @notenoughtech

It should relay the messages automatically since it's powered constantly and its MG21 built which has the router functions available. Can't vouch for the firmware implementation. I would have to check in the Zigbee2Mqtt how does it appear as

I wired it up to a light above my bed and can control it with a Lonsonho Zigbee wall switch and Sonoff Zigbee button all connected to the Sonoff Zigbee Bridge which all works perfectly. Only problem is when I turn off the light, I can hear a high pitched noise coming from the Sonoff Zigbee Mini. Any ideas?

Hi Mat, thanks for your videos, they are great! I have a question: Do you think there is a way of adding an extra microcontroller to the zbmini to let the zbmini understand more mqtt instructions like dimming etc (with actually executing the extra functionality by the MC)? The MC can maybe use the 3.3V/5V pins of the zbmini for power supply and the rx/tx pins for communication. I really don't know if there are any diy community efforts in this direction, that's why i ask :). My current idea is to use the zbmini to switch a 12V power supply which runs the LED strip plus a esp8266 to control the strip via WiFi. This rises the question why using zigbee at all :D (and not using a tasmotized sonoff mini for example). But all my IOT stuff is based on zigbee and honestly i don't want to use WiFi for my IOT devices. The only benefit i see for "my" solutions is that the WiFi connection is only active when the device is active, but at the end it's somehow unsatisfactory to use zigbee for switching and WiFi for controlling then. Thanks, moik.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  3 роки тому

It would be easier to get small ZigBee dev boards and make a small device yourself than try to modify the zbmini.
I have a couple of these boards they look like esp32 d1 boards and have more pins than you would need for your purpose.

    • @mikemoik
