🖐🏼 weird question... is there something I can do to help my fiddle leaf tree trunk thicker? Mine is a baby one which has a few leaves that weight it down and I'm afraid it would break 😕
Hi Maria, that is a great question and one that gets asked all the time in our Facebook Community. To strengthen and thicken your trunk, you would want to regularly 'wiggle' or gently shake the tree. Here is a great video for you to check out how to do this. ua-cam.com/video/uuwKP6V5ALM/v-deo.html
Please help?😬 How deep should I the notch in a 40 year old healthy Meyers lemon tree to grow more branches from the base? I notched different areas as of the tree and size branches 4 to 6 weeks ago. No buds as of yet.🤨
Great question! I would notch to create a large enough injury to disrupt the flow of the dormant leaf buds. You will want to make sure you see sap come from the injury. Go deep enough but not too deep where you accidentally prune the area. Happy Growing!
Just pruned/ cut the top off my fig, it was getting tall. Cut it above a node. Now I'm wondering how long I should wait before notching the lower parts? (would start with 3 notches probably). Don't want to stress plant too much at once.
I would wait at least 4+ weeks so you can see the growth from your newly pruned plant. Then once it is happy and actively growing, attempt the 3 notched areas and you should have at least one more point on the plant that has new branches. Good luck!
Hi Claire. Thanks for all the great tips! I wanted to notch my plant today but have just notified more new leaves popping out the top! Should I wait for the new leaves to form or can I still go ahead with notching? Thanks :)
Your plant sounds very happy and healthy with growth! Wait for the growth to fully unfurl and then you can attempt notching in multiple spots. Good luck!
I’m worried about a month outside prior to notching. I live in Houston, TX and it’s going to be pretty hot and very full sun. How important is that step? The plant is healthy, I’ve only had it a couple of months and it’s added 3 leaves.
Yes! I have a whole video about faux fiddle leaf figs and my office does not have any windows so a faux fiddle leaf fig is a joy to have add some greenery to the corner. Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/PJBGQ3XReKI/v-deo.html
Hi Brittany, I would recommend pinching as an approach to grow new branches on your younger tree. Notching will only work on more mature plants that have a thick, woody, bark covered stem. Happy Growing!

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thanks! I'll definitely be watching that next! 🖐🏼
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant Oh WOW I've heard of doing the shaking thing with lemon trees but never thought of doing this with FLF's!!🥰
Please help?😬

Does notching promote leaves or branches?
Branches! Whenever you see new growth come from the stem, it is a new branch.

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant Thanks!!!
Thank you! I didn’t realize it was normal to only have about half of my notches be successful.
You are welcome! Try to make a few notches at the same time so you increase your chances of success! Good Luck!

Can you apply this for other trees? Like other evergreen trees
It should! Pruning may be more successful!
Hi Claire. Once I notch, should I wrap the notch or leave it exposed?
Leave it exposed. Good luck! Happy Growing!
All this information makes me perfect. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I am sorry, but do you have fake fiddle leaf fig on the left? 😁🤷♂️

If I have a fiddle that is only 10" tall right now, can I notch it? Most these videos are for very large fiddles.
