    Personal opinion, unless you are a collector and the gun in question is an original military 1911 or 1911A1 or a reenactor who has to meet historical standards, then any departure from 1911A1 specifications is irrelevant. Again personal opinion, all that matters is how does the gun function, how does it shoot, how well does it work in the individual shooters hand, how reliable is it and is it of good quality. The minutiae of does it exactly follow this or that specification, is just picking at imaginary nits. I would like to thank you and your lovely wife for your consistently entertaining and informative videos. Oh if it matters I am a 73 year old retired Army NCO and 1911 collector.

      Lucky guy. I wanted the new Tank Commander 45 but I found out that Tisas are not sold in CA. Ended up with a full size Rock Island 1911 A2 Hi-Cap 45. Heavy with thick grips but no issues so far. Would be an ideal truck gun with the 13 rounds magazine allowed in other states.

    I shoot revolvers more often that autos and learned to tuck my thumbs very early. The benefit is I never have issues with contacting the slide stop during firing. Over the years I've had many instructor try to correct my grip to a thumbs forward style. Nope, once past the class I go right back to what has always worked for me. Plus if I help others, my advice is try all these grip types and see what works for them and allows them to accurately hit the target with control. All that said, I think one of these may be coming to my safe in the near future. Thanks guys, God bless, Rob

    Excellent , detailed, fun, and thorough review as always. Mine is excellent and purchased after market parts. From MidWay USA WILSON COMBAT firing pin, firing pin spring, Flat wire recoil spring, ED BROWN ejector , Firing pin plate stop, trigger, and PACHMYR rubber grips. She's heavy, excellent quality, and super accurate. Had Martin decades of experience and custom 1911 gunsmith with 15x years specialization with Wayne Bernquist Expert 1911 Gunsmith. Unfortunately we lost Wayne and the community is devastated. Martin said the firing pin is shorter. Like the Taurus 1911. Even the WILSON COMBAT Elite 10 round magazine didn't fit because of floor plate on the magazine coming up on the front of the mag. The flat wire recoil spring it comes with is excellent as per Martin. He tested it and said I was really going to enjoy it.He lowered the trigger to 3 lb. trigger pull. I have a range in my backyard. Fired several mag fulls of the magazines it came with. She fires like a dream and excellent accuracy. I couldn't stop shooting. Wife was upset because my SIG RATTLER 5.56 is super loud. Pure excitement.....quality firearms. PEACE

    I have the larger brother of the Tank Commander, the full size 5-inch barrel. I like the way it shoots, but I feel the larger barrel makes it harder to control the muzzle direction and recoil. Besides, the 4.25-inch barrel I’d argue would make it far better as a conceal carry option and still carry the same mag capacity.
    I’m gonna trade mine in for this. I feel I’d enjoy this so much more.

    I think I'm gonna go with the full size in 9mm. I like the Tank Commander and judging by your video it seems great, but I also like the sweet shooting of the 9 in a full size like one I had in the 90's. I've got too many .45's already, including my Colt WWI remake in Carbonia Blue which is my every day. I'll just carry the Tisas in the rain and sweat and not worry so much about my Colt. Plus, at half the price per round I'll be able to save my .45 ammo that is stashed away. Got enough for the rest of my time here on the planet, but only if I don't eat away at it too much. I'll have some fun with the 9....

    Let me try to explain the slide and your grip. I have seen many, mostly older shooter running with the thumb against the side of the slide. That is a HUGE no-no. You are causing friction against the slide which can cause the slide to slow down just enough to cause jams or not cycle back far enough to lock back. No matter the semi auto, do not set your thumb on the slide. It needs to move free from any interference. Many will cuss a gun for jamming when it’s the using not know the proper way to hold one.

    • @Moroni108
      @Moroni108 Рік тому

      I appreciate your comment, and though it may be true for some guns like a particular 1911 (specially chambered in 9mm), that's not the case for some. For example, the HK P2000 chambered in .40 S&W. We taught trainee Federal Agent to clamshell you palm heals in the back with no gaps and stack those thumbs along the side of the firearm. The purpose was to maximize friction along with setting the wrists. What this did, was it allowed the shooter to greatly manage the recoil where after the shot the sites would remain aligned, there would be a small muzzle rise but then the sites would quickly drop back on target where the shooter was aiming. The thumbs utilized in this fashion never caused a gun jam in all my range experience, but that could be because of that .40 S&W, that was one hell of a snappy round! I did see a lot of limp wristed stove piping though, but that had nothing to do with the thumbs affecting the slide... :) I am curious though; our Agency has changed over to the Glock in 9mm. I'm not instructing at the range anymore and I'm back out in the field. I would be curious if stacking the thumbs on our 9mm Glocks is demonstrating malfunctions back at the Academy on the firearms range.....

    Graham, I wonder if you could answer a couple of questions for me on this gun. I'm going to buy a Tisas and am trying to decide which one. I have 50 years experience with 1911's in both competition and poice work. In retirement I teach concealed carry classes and in just about every one, some guy wants to try a 1911. I seem to have a hole in my gun safe that would just fit a Commander sized pistol, and lines of the Tank Commander appeal to me. might even carry one, but all of my current 1911's are too expensive to risk being dropped by s student, or taken into evidence by the police if I shoot someone.
    Here are my questions. It seems sacrilegious to own a 1911 in other than .45 ACP, old Geezer that I am. So I thought it might be good to have one in 9mm in light of student use and my arthritic hands. How did you find the sights on the Tank Commander? Were they any taller than stadard GI? Would you be okay with them (with a bit of paint) for carry? Did you want the beavertail grip safety?
    I ask because I see Tisas has the Carry Black for about $50 more that features dovetailed Novak style sights, a longer trigger, and beavertail grip safety with memory bump. I see it also has a factory ambi safety which doesn't matterr to me. Do you think I'd be happy with the more GI looking model, or be kicking myself for not spending the $50 on the enhanced version? Thanks in advance if you have time to reply. Also how do I tip you?

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  Рік тому

      The sights are taller, and could be painted, but if the pistol is meant to be an example for training purposes why not get something more modern unless you want them to understand a classic? The grip was fine for my hands, but I also learned on a GI 1911 years back. Another way to look at it is you likely can't update this model for less than $50, so why not get the upgraded model that includes a warranty for those upgrades? As far as the tip (thank you) there should be a "Thanks" or "Super Thanks" button under the video, or you could join our Patreon.

      @@GBGuns Thank you so much for responding. After I asked my questions i just about came to that same conclusion on my own using the same logic. I think I was sort of roped in by the Tanker's clean looks like I started with 50 years ago. I think I'll get the better spec'd Carry Black. Then if I like it I might also get the Tanker just for fun. Be well. I enjoy your reviews. Best to your partner as well.
