Naga Ashwin won't risk revealing too much of the story. The movie i think will start with the end of the Kurukshetra War, where Ashwathama would be cursed by Krishna (another Cameo). Then a scene where he is returned the Mani in later future, and his way to salvation is explained to him, then movie will move to the scenes which are showed in character reveal. I think it's his mission to collect the warriors and fight Kali.
Also, either Prabhas himself is incarnation of Vishnu as Kalki Avatar, or as his name suggests he is Bhairava, incarnation of Shiva who wreaked havoc. In the latter either Raia, or Deepika's character may be Kalki and Project K is by Kali to find the avatar and capture him or her.
