"R&D Comments BB 10/10: Why does a life-gaining card show an old lady killing people? MR (10/10/03): We'll fix it in the flavor text." - Granny's Payback, Unhinged
On the subject of making a draft of silly things that weren't meant to be drafted, we did a birthday draft for a friend last year using those dollar repack packs. It was... surprisingly really well balanced and just sort of worked. We did end up with a lot of complete trash cards around the house for months though, when we removed the washing machine there was a full deck of trash under there.
I remember having these cards (like Amarou Kithkin) when I first started playing Magic - I'll have to dig through my old cards to see if I still have them.
Defense Grid is played in vintage as well in combo decks that don't want the opponent countering their spells - especially with force of will - during their turns. I assume its used in legacy for similar reasons.
I don't know why, but every episode of TTC is just super quiet compared to other LLR content on YT. I'm watching this episode on my phone with a bluetooth speaker, and I can barely hear it.
Wait Rennaissance had to exist because of a policy about having to print black bordered before white border in that language? They went through the whole process of making this set without once thinking "This policy is stupid lets change it."?
Paul just put the most ridiculous draft format into my head. Chaff Draft. Take the last card picked from each pack in a draft and put it into a pile. When the pile has enough cards for a draft, draft that. It'd probably be miserable, but also really funny.
At 15:58, James gives his idea for a draft with foreign languages. It reminded me of an idea I wanted to pitch. Draft a non-MtG card game (like Pokémon TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh, Exodus, Force of Will, Redemption, or whatever), but draft it BEFORE you read the rules; then build a deck with the cards you drafted once you know the rules. It'd probably have to be a 2-segment thing (because learning the rules takes time), but it might be interesting. Edit: Also Dollar Store Repack Sealed could be interesting.
Most sets have a Dragon, Hydra, Sphinx, Angel, and Demon. It would be hard to fit those into Ixalan, since so many cards rely on having creatures of certain subtypes.
the old defines grid is better cause it says during each players turn, spells played by another player costs and addition 3, but with the new card your opponent can play a spell without pay an extra 3 on your turn.
You are professionals and you know what you are doing! But by any chance, have you considered releasing two great hour long podcasts not on the same day?
Also I thought of the idea of trying to draft those $1 store repacks and call it a sadness draft. Enjoy your kiora's followers if that's what you're planning.
According to Gatherer, Serra Angel is legal in Standard. The only place it has been printed recently (outside of a supplimental set) is a welcome deck. So they apparently ARE legal.
The most annoying thing in these TTC videos is how you keep talking about things you know nothing about that is readily available information and the very first thing you talk about is a card WHOSE NAME IS EXPLAINED IN ITS OWN FLAVOR TEXT!...
"When the Planeswalker Angrath called dinosaurs “dragons,” the name stuck in certain pirate circles." - Dragonskull Summit, Ixalan
I love that flavour text
"R&D Comments

MR (10/10/03): We'll fix it in the flavor text."
- Granny's Payback, Unhinged
Here be dragons?
On Dragonskull Summit: Reading the card explains the card
I will readily edit this if they figure it out later on
i was thinking exactly the same.

I loved the 5 mins that they were in denial that the pack came from 2012
It certainly smells like another chaos draft in here
@1:55 There are no iconic types in XLN, no dragons, no demons, no angels, no sphinxes, not hydras.
A welcome change, would you not agree? Idk just seeing angels and dragons on Kaladesh was weird.
Dragons not so much, but the angels were the worst part of that set, flavour and inspiration wise.
there is a flavour text that confirms demons exist in ixalan, wait, I'll look for it
"Demons lurk in the shadows of ancient ruins, spreading plague and corruption across the land." -Dark Nourishment, Ixalan
There you go
The flavour text of Dark Nourishment implies that there ARE demons, though
DO A CHAOS SEALED. that will pull a chunk outta that box.
They've done chaos drafts before. Chaos Sealed would murder that thing. XD!
I remember having these cards (like Amarou Kithkin) when I first started playing Magic - I'll have to dig through my old cards to see if I still have them.
That Urza's Legacy gave me serious Magic flashbacks. I had most of those cards!
9:14 The shadows art of fiery temper has a dab on it as well. Additionally, headwater sentries looks a lot like it's dabbing, but it's not.

Turned out to be an ok pack 😆 I'm always curious about the packs I give you and thrilled to see them cracked
A draft with dollar store repacks might be the ultimate chaos draft.

House of Shadow I'm watching TTC right after North 100 and there's a noticeable difference between the levels. I get it both on my phone and PS4.
House of Shadow same
Your other pack of Renaissance is actually Italian. (I'm the [E] that gave the pack to James)
Glorybringer is dragon enough for Ixalan.
I saw your description and I would like you to know I can take a couple of those packs off of your hands
so first ep of TTC was shortly before the Gatecrash prerelease. so you guys have almost been doing it long enough for that pack to be from 2012
I dug around and the first TTC episode is on UA-cam at least from Jan 19, 2013.
Yeah I remember a montage scene on Live that showed James buying packs. I think.

all these pants and nothing to cast them on!

Samuel Dionne do force of will because it's a VERY close copy of magic. I had to teach it to a buddy of mine and I learned it in like 5 minutes.
Volume for the episode is kinda low (except for the booming Paul voice at 6:08 )
27:30 You guys went all the way to Japan just so you could vlog?
the urzas legacy sac creatures feel like theyd work really well when damage went on the stack
The alternate title for this Crack-A-Pack: You Reap What You Sow.
Most sets have a Dragon, Hydra, Sphinx, Angel, and Demon.
It would be hard to fit those into Ixalan, since so many cards rely on having creatures of certain subtypes.
Quinten is my favorite magic artist.. :P
RE: NO DRAGONS..... what is a dragon really, but a miss-attributed dinosaur fossil?
4:42 it makes me giggle a little bit
Just got a button that says dome em out
One of these days you should do a chaos draft with the crack-a-packs
Are you going to do this every month? That'd be fun!
Cam's Tim Horton's is making me jealous.
I've never noticed that the cards at the beginning are mostly their spoiler cards
Dmg went on the stack in 9th so it wasnt that bad.
Did anyone else notice the flavour text on Inferno and who it's quoted to?
Insert name here which version? One is from Jaya Ballard and the other Mairsil
0.o I totally didn't, that's sweet
Same thing actually goes for the Fellwar Stone
Ixalan is one of the few sets that dont contain a single dragon. Khans of tarkir is another, for obvious flavour reasons
Wait have we not had a dragon since Glorybringer?
I believe Damage still went on the stack during Urza's Legacy...
Why does the thumbnail say Q&A, yet it's Crack a Pack?
the old defines grid is better cause it says during each players turn, spells played by another player costs and addition 3, but with the new card your opponent can play a spell without pay an extra 3 on your turn.
*defense
Rancor was meant to cost 2 more but was misprinted
You are professionals and you know what you are doing! But by any chance, have you considered releasing two great hour long podcasts not on the same day?
that with the different languages sounds soo awesome xd did they ever do that? xD
its the wrong timeline at 2:23
Halloween Chaos Draft?
There were no dragons in ixalan, and there were also no dragons in hour of devastation(keepo)
Also I thought of the idea of trying to draft those $1 store repacks and call it a sadness draft. Enjoy your kiora's followers if that's what you're planning.
Does anyone notice that Graham looks like he lost a ton of weight?
.. there wasnt a dragon in dragon's maze .... Soo
More Chaos drafts?
Also, Deckbox.org has Renaissance.
Is Serra Angel in standard?
Jesse M Yes, because of the Welcome Decks.
Peter Dierauer I don't think the welcome decks are standard legal
According to Gatherer, Serra Angel is legal in Standard. The only place it has been printed recently (outside of a supplimental set) is a welcome deck. So they apparently ARE legal.
alexduthie23 No, they are standard legal - giving new players cards that they then can't use in standard would be silly.
no dragon no angel in yet rivals soon.tm
they need to stream a crack a pack fest for like 8 hours and go though packs much faster.
@16:15 lol
1
getting rid of damage on the stack was a stupid decision
How come Graham pronounces "Renaissance" funny? Is that just how they say it in Canada?
? He doesn't pronounce it funny.
He pronounces it "ruh-NAY-sonss." Everyone I know pronounces it either "REN-uh-zonss" or "REN-uh-sonss".
Wait "REN-uh-sonss" is a thing? I thought Americans just said it weird when they were talking about ren fayres and other bollocks like that
It bugs me how you keep saying "Plane of Ixalan" when they've been very insistent that Ixalan is not the planes name.
It IS the name of the plane, as well as that of the continent, as per Maro.
They haven't been insistent very well, then, cause this is the first I've heard of it
The most annoying thing in these TTC videos is how you keep talking about things you know nothing about that is readily available information and the very first thing you talk about is a card WHOSE NAME IS EXPLAINED IN ITS OWN FLAVOR TEXT!...
