i mean i think it makes sense. the time & resources spent on making Nightreign could've been spent improving elden rings multiplayer, shits pretty lame. im sure the game will be fun but yeah
It's not the concept that makes me hesitant, but the content we've actually been shown; largely re-used bosses and environments. Personally, co-op is typically the less interesting way to fight bosses, what with how they typically can't handle more than one opponent very well, and most of the enjoyment to be had here is vicarious; playing it with someone who's never fought them before, or the satisfaction of helping someone who is stuck (or in some cases the sheer novelty of how much easier they are with another person). I expect the bosses they design specifically to be fought by three people will at least be fun, but that seems like a comparatively small part of the game, as I doubt they will largely change existing bosses beyond adding in more enemies to keep your attention split (though I could be proven wrong), at which point you might as well be fighting separate fights you could've just fought in Elden Ring/DS3 or whatever, with a character you actually made. Then the template environments combined with the short timer and flight makes me doubt there will be meaningful exploration, which is one of my favourite things about these games. Combine that with what we've heard about the field enemies quickly becoming trash mobs, which implies even those crowd fights won't be interesting (though this could potentially change as the game continues). I do like some rogue-likes, but they tend to be ones where the abilities you pick/encounter massively change each run, and typically have some kind of resource management (Noita, FTL, Into the Breach). That's not something we've heard about so far - the buffs on equipment seem to be mostly stat based, similar to talismans you might find in Elden Ring. I'll probably still play it unless we see anything more damning, but my expectations aren't very high.
"I doubt they will largely change existing bosses" You're likely incorrect here. That Centipede Demon in the trailer? Absolute freaks online have already pored over the new trailer and the old model and determined that it cannot be the same one. It's articulating in ways that old Centipede Demon can't. Between that and the wolf that splits into three and the fact that they are building this from the ground up with multiplayer in mind and that they have specifically talked about this multiplayer criticism of bosses in the past, it is almost guaranteed that they are designing and redesigning everything that appears in the game with handling three players in mind. Will that involve adds in some fights? Almost certainly. But I imagine that will be context dependent, not old vs. new boss dependent (saw someone mention Revamped Royal Rat Authority and it's all I want in the world now). That aside, I'm largely in the same boat. I'll play it but I suspect I won't get terribly invested. I too value exploration and narrative etc. over the kind of "Oops, all mechanics" thing rogulites have going on. Like, you'll never catch me playing Vampire Survivors. I'm sure it would be fun. But so what? I can have fun kicking a can. Doesn't mean I'm going to go out of my way to do it.
It's basically a combination of ALL of the current Slop in gaming besides the shit that would piss people off too much. People defending this have no thoughts in their mind. They've been defending this with constant gaslighting since Day 1. That right there gives me no faith that this is any good.
@@asdergold1I’ve seen people unironically say that Fromsoft’s greatest strength is reusing assets. I have no idea why people feel the need to white knight a company like this.
@@cyberhawk9950 I understand that this is kind of a test game for a new director, but could they have at least not used the Elden Ring name and forced the guy to make something fresh? Part of the weakness of all the souls titles is the jack of all trades aspect. It's cool that you can take your rpg character into pvp battles, but it will never be balanced that way. Same with coop for nearly every boss battle. I hope they do a pvp focused game also, because even the unbalanced mess that it is still dog walks a lot of other multiplayer slop. Maybe one day we can have a game that can can house these different aspects in a way that's balanced. A pvp mode or co-op focused game mode. What they learn from this and future projects will undoubtedly be cool for other mainline titles.
Ngl I was disappointed at first when I realized it wasn't going to be a second DLC, but it is exciting to me as it's own thing and I honestly can't wait to try it out. I think it's nice to give a new, different director a chance to try something, and I also think it'll be fun to have a shorter souls-y game to play here and there when I don't feel like invading or doing a whole playthrough of elden ring or any other souls game. Crossing my fingers and hoping it's good!
If this was a 3v3 PvEvP dark and darker type of thing it would be so damn good. I would still prefer if it had builds instead of heroes but it would be so much better imo.
I feel like a game that enhanced and elaborated on Bloodborne chalice dungeons with a multiplayer focus would be amazing. Theres a lot of potential there for non-symmetrical and unpredictable fights if you add covenant mechanics so each player is going for their own objective. I can imagine something like a group of "dungeon looters" move through a level while a "dungeon commander" can move pve around or tell pve to do certain strategic actions. Add a "bandit" covenant as a kind of mad phantom group hostile to all players, or a "Rogue" or "spy" which can have a choice between objectives for possible betrayals.
without invasions or a challenging single player experience these games are nothing special and will age terribly. so to make a game without either of these feels like pandering to an audience that doesnt actually care about the core experience. its like when the game of thrones writers wrote the fantastical elements out of their fantasy source material so to not alienate the general audience. yeah it will make these games even more popular (and most importantly: profitable), but it will likely be forgotten by them when they find a new coop roguelitelike to play with their discord kittens
BEFORE I EVEN WATCH THE VIDEO!!! I just wanna say that I think if we have to ask ourselves this question, we probably don't feel as excited for Nightreign as we did for Elden Ring proper 20 seconds into the video, and I'd to say that I get irritated on behalf of streamers when chatters ask the same questions over and over again (e.g. LobosJr and his Slow Runs/Community Runs) end of the video: I'm glad we're acknowledging this as a major opportunity for FromSoft to experiment further with their games, but we should also consider that if this is Ishizaki's first time directing, this might be a public demonstration of FromSoft actively nurturing talent in their studio. Instead of going the safer route and just having Miyazaki direct Elden Ring Journey 2 the Center of the Ring, Elden Edition, they're handing the reins off to a veteran of the studio and saying "you've been doing some great work for us so far. feel like kicking it up a notch?" Basically, I'm not personally very interested in Nightreign conceptually, but there's still a lot to consider and appreciate under the hood. That, and I've been surprised before (I skipped preorders on AC6, and now I'm fiending for more AC6 like an addict)
Nightreign looks more fun than Elden Ring itself to be honest. but, i love a good Rogue-lite. Honestly the only issue I have with it is, is I wish Shadow of the Erdtree could of been a standalone release too so it could of gotten similar gameplay improvements.
Armored Core getting a roguelite 'mercenary mode' where you do procedural missions would be great fun. Another Age is almost like that and people dislike that it was 'filler', but i love the variety & challenge it provides.
As much as I want to call "I'm exited to see what things they bring *over* from Nightreign into their next game that isn't this" cope for suckers, I'm still gonna buy and play it.
I’m sad that there’s no PvP, and the high probability of no multiplatform also sucks. I’m miffed about the reused assets, but if I’m lucky then these old bosses will get reworked to fit ER’s faster paced combat. I’m praying that most of the reused bosses are from DS1 and DS2, and that they’re thoroughly fleshed out. Fingers crossed for Nito. Overall, I’m cautiously optimistic.
@@lukefisher8417 Maybe. I’ve heard Nightreign is using the exact same multiplayer system as previous souls games. I think that’s a shame, but who knows. A game like Nightreign that’s primarily multiplayer would be the perfect tie me to make a better online system thats not so glitchy.
You are stressing over nothing. The mere thoughts of FROM just dumping those old bosses in there without massive improvements is ridiculous. All those old bosses now need to deal with 3 players with Sekiro tier mobilities. Even if it is just DS3 bosses they will get slaughtered in record time and render the game completely unfun. This game is definitely more then a mere assist reuse if the detractors give more then 5 minutes of thoughts before yelling on the internet. It's more of a 20+ boss rush game that FROM didn't have to make too many new models and movesets for (they do have to retexture a ton though).
4:54 Such a person does not exist. There are only two types of people. People who love Sekiro and scrubs who haven't passed through scrub dojo yet. That aside, Nightreign isn't really my cup of tea. The whole roguelite genre always grows stale for me really quickly once that initial newness wears off and you're no longer progressing so much as cycling through rng in the hopes of getting a decent build. That said, you get to be a bird man. I want to be a bird man. Ca-caw! 10/10
Appreciate this take. Seeing other souls streamers complaining has really cemented my belief that souls fans largely don't play other types of games, to their own detriment. Seeing Drunk Souls call it PVE slop is super cringe and embarrassing. It's just a game.
It absolutely is an asset flip PVE slop meant to milk Elden Ring brand. Would've been much better if they instead released refined AC6 like they did with previous generations.
Agree, this is one of the few sensible takes I've seen on Nightreign. Also people forget... Miyazaki talks about developing his people all the time. It's great he's giving this guy a chance to direct a game, who knows what he might go on to make if he proves himself here.
@@a.ah.689 literally how am I "don't play other types of games", if my main complaint is the fact that Nighreign isn't different enough and is actually more of the same, dare I say, souls slop we've been getting for years. At the risk of being made fun of, I'll say I hate it because this just feels so beneath FROMSOFT. These characters and lore that they're from, they can't just be thrown around haphazardly like this. We've been conditioned to analyze every bit of lore with an investigative eye: the context, the deeper meanings, the emotions they evoke- they're sacrosanct. If they wanted to make a throw away game to test some trend chasing fortnite mechanics, why couldn't they just make a new universe? I'd probably be okay with it then. Don't even give it a story, just have it be presented purely arcadey. I don't even mind reusing assets, it just needs to be done artistically. I'm also flabbergasted as to why people want the Souls and Elden Ring universe to be connected. Each setting has their own themes and world building, and mixing them would diminish them both. It's why I hate the fact that the X-Men are in the MCU, with the X-Men being focused on diversity and discrimination- those topics mean nothing in the face or literal aliens and sorcerers. ALSO I'm confident nightreign is the reason we're never going to get a "boss selection" mode in Elden Ring.
god i would be so happy if they made another king's field. i feel like the demon's souls/dark souls core of 'third person action rpg where you press circle to dodge' was already overstaying its welcome with dark souls 3, i would love something slower
Dungeon sims are pretty hot you’re just not gonna get them through fromsoftware ever they haven’t done one since Miyazaki took over and the people who created those games don’t even work at the studio anymore so I kind of just accepted that if I want a dungeon crawler sim it’s gonna be elsewhere which is totally fine.
Sekiro is great and it doesnt have pvp, but is a single player focused game, it depresses me that they're making a multiplayer focused game and it doesnt have pvp, i even hear that "bosses" like Margit can "invade" during a run why that couldnt be a player.
I''m feeling like it's unironically over. At this point. I've been having weird thoughts and speculations ever since DS3 "man they're never gonna make another Demon Souls are they? Its devolving into another cashgrab series ruined by going mainstream." And look at that, I was right haha. ER was a final nail, I know I know Covid and stuff but releasing a 60% complete game with actual empty maps (like they forgot to put anything in there in map edit), gutted/removed story, most of NPCs quests removed, etc, is messed up. But it dont matter now.
Lmao ER is a considerably better game than demon's souls in literally every facet, Morrowboomers with their classic "every new thing is bad", nothing interesting to see here

Elden Ring Fortnite for Moonveil/Bleed children with short attention spans. Its not bloodborne, er 2, or ac 6.5/7. The fact that any of their people wasted time on this when their live service games are in the state that they are, is atrocious and shameful. Nightreign as a concept smacks of Sony buyout
Except Sony didn’t even fully buy out Kadokawa. They only had enough money to buy out its anime sector, just as they had planned on initially, before Kadakawa tried to get filled bought out. Also, assuming it really does come out 2025, this game has been in development long before the Sony Kadokawa stuff started.
Why would you play it solo? Your viewership alone would ensure nonstop matchmaking, which won't be a problem at release but can become a problem as the game ages. There is no reason to play this solo on release, unless you want to go against the literal point of the experience. You're likely incorrect here.
I feel like Miyazaki is now being too free with his IP's. Imagine the game is dogwater, it's forever going to stain Elden Ring a little bit
@ Assuming Fromsoft really is doing a straight crossover with the Dark Souls elements, it really could’ve been its own thing
Preaching absolute facts Saint ,as usual.
Also wanted to point out .
That it's definetly something else , when a :
micro celebrity Fromsoft fanboy soulstuber -
has more common sense, logic, foresight and ability to make understandble speaches with clear message then most of " Big heads" on big podiums and arenas .
Like even when you start rambling, it's steel intresting to see how you spin your yarn together.
And it seems absolutly wild to me .
I see hero classes I sign off😅, what’s next? Battle pass😂?
Especially since Sony became Kadokawa’s biggest shareholder, it’s highly possible😂
I know that Souls games aren’t really about PvP, but gosh I want a game like Souls but focused on PvP.
Same. I was hoping it had some pvp aspects
Ds2 was definitely a step in the right direction
@@prins-henrik1530I like the way you think 🧐
without invasions or a challenging single player experience these games are nothing special and will age terribly. so to make a game without either of these feels like pandering to an audience that doesnt actually care about the core experience. its like when the game of thrones writers wrote the fantastical elements out of their fantasy source material so to not alienate the general audience. yeah it will make these games even more popular (and most importantly: profitable), but it will likely be forgotten by them when they find a new coop roguelitelike to play with their discord kittens
BEFORE I EVEN WATCH THE VIDEO!!! I just wanna say that I think if we have to ask ourselves this question, we probably don't feel as excited for Nightreign as we did for Elden Ring proper
20 seconds into the video, and I'd to say that I get irritated on behalf of streamers when chatters ask the same questions over and over again (e.g. LobosJr and his Slow Runs/Community Runs)
end of the video: I'm glad we're acknowledging this as a major opportunity for FromSoft to experiment further with their games, but we should also consider that if this is Ishizaki's first time directing, this might be a public demonstration of FromSoft actively nurturing talent in their studio. Instead of going the safer route and just having Miyazaki direct Elden Ring Journey 2 the Center of the Ring, Elden Edition, they're handing the reins off to a veteran of the studio and saying "you've been doing some great work for us so far. feel like kicking it up a notch?"
Basically, I'm not personally very interested in Nightreign conceptually, but there's still a lot to consider and appreciate under the hood. That, and I've been surprised before (I skipped preorders on AC6, and now I'm fiending for more AC6 like an addict)
Honestly I think it looks awesome I’m so excited
Im hella excited, lots of potential here
same!
I can't believe we're getting two Hyper Light Breakers in one year
im not sure what to think about it yet, honestly. but im still gonna buy it when it comes out and make my friends suffer through it
I'd like to see Saint play Returnal. Super fun. Roguelite. Space themed, cool story, pretty trippy. I'd watch that.
12:12 Too good
Nightreign looks more fun than Elden Ring itself to be honest. but, i love a good Rogue-lite.
Honestly the only issue I have with it is, is I wish Shadow of the Erdtree could of been a standalone release too so it could of gotten similar gameplay improvements.
I'd maybe like to see an armored core version of this if it does well. Sucks that there's no invasions tho
Armored Core getting a roguelite 'mercenary mode' where you do procedural missions would be great fun. Another Age is almost like that and people dislike that it was 'filler', but i love the variety & challenge it provides.
Like a slice of butter melting over a big ol pile of flapjacks......yeah
On the up side I do think this will benefit us for pvp/co-op in future games
I hope there'll be pvp.
I have friends to play with, so I'm looking forward to it. 😏
I would say that Nightreign might be FromSoftware's first mid game since Demon's Souls, but i keep forgetting that Armored Core 6 exists 😅
What did you think about Nightreign?
i just want a fixed version of bed of chaos, without the gimmick and a more suitable arena
> Fromfies
...CEASE
@@kindlingking just proving my point bud
@@a.ah.689 If they lacked self awareness they wouldn’t even typed this. The irony of his post is astounding.
I'm sick of Elden Ring, I'm sick of souls. I want something truly different and exiting.
So what i gather from all you said is i should come ask you how you feel about it in your twitch chat
Even if Elden Ring Nightreign isn't that good, which I doubt, I look forward to Fromsoft testing new stuff for their next Souls game.
2:57
Catch flame moment lol
It doesent look overwhelming or underwhelming for me. Just somewhere in between 😥
But what if they dont make a dark souls 4/ Elden Ring? Elden Ring could be the end of this genre for FromSoft
cute kiss there at the end 😳
And in the year of our lord 2024, Miyazaki looked at junya ishizaki and said “I’ll let you cook”
😁
i don't know why but I fux with this build
My friend and I are happy that there will be no player invasions and that the game is 100% co-op!
I will say that I would be fine if they added an arena or colosseum update for a 3v3 or 3v3v3 type of pvp.
Want to play the bird dude
god i would be so happy if they made another king's field. i feel like the demon's souls/dark souls core of 'third person action rpg where you press circle to dodge' was already overstaying its welcome with dark souls 3, i would love something slower
Dungeon sims are pretty hot you’re just not gonna get them through fromsoftware ever
they haven’t done one since Miyazaki took over and the people who created those games don’t even work at the studio anymore so I kind of just accepted that if I want a dungeon crawler sim it’s gonna be elsewhere which is totally fine.
It looks cool
I only feel souls games in red color
Pretty happy with it myself!
Not making your own character is the biggest issue for me
Play risk of rain 2. Not making your character is a good thing bc there will be unique progression and a different play style for each hero.
Doesn't sound like my kind of game, so probably not going to buy it. I'll see what people have to say about it when it's released and decide then.
10:08 NUH UH!!
Fort nigh
need now
I dont feel
@@usernamehhhs4540 Take you meds dude

Many presumptions made and none hit the mark.

I'm not looking forward to it. Feels like an asset flip and isn't Canon. Feels more like a waste of time.
(just as a note, dark souls 4 won't happen.)
Why would you play it solo? Your viewership alone would ensure nonstop matchmaking, which won't be a problem at release but can become a problem as the game ages. There is no reason to play this solo on release, unless you want to go against the literal point of the experience. Reminds me of the people who play Souls games offline for "immersion", like... wtf are you on about, that's an option that exists parallel to the central design elements.
