Hello and thank you so much! That's very kind of you 😊 you are not the first person to mention Malta (unless you were the one who wrote on the blog about it 🤣) and Malta was meant to be one of my trips back in 2020, which obviously ended up not happening. I am now curious to know what is the right and wrong way to visit it 🤣
Ah, it's a 'Marmite' destination; you're either going to love it - or you're going to hate it. Photography may be nigh-on impossible until late afternoon, because of the harsh light, but then everything gradually turns golden, and photography becomes flattering. Also, Malta has its good side and its bad side - it has many hidden gems ..and some catastrophicly obvious flaws. Malta was better in the past, so the trick is to find 'The old Malta' .. not just in terms of architecture, but also culture. Example: in 2010, Malta retired its 60-year old buses for good (now replaced by charmless modern vehicles) but, some of the old buses have been converted to run partially on LPG (to circumvent EU Reg's) and are now back on the roads between certain destinations in the hands of private operators, allowing for a taste of 'the real Malta' which I feared was lost forever. Then, there are the festas; Catholic celebrations in the streets which feature marching bands and world-beating fireworks, each town having it's own saint and festa, on different dates. Then there are the locations; some are obviously for the tourist - but still thoroughly worthwhile. Others are best left for the birds. I try to go to Malta every couple of years just to check everything is in place.. and I never miss a nightime walking visit to M'dina (pn: 'Im-deena') an in-tact medieval city in the centre of the island, that takes on an incredible unearthly atmosphere at night. And then, there are the people.. it's normal to see neighbours sitting outside and talking in the streets in places, just being out in the cooler air of an evening. In Gozo (next island) people are known not even to lock their doors! Daniella, there's so-so much, but you have to get under the skin as it were. Hi Daniela! 😀 Congrats for your achievement! I was wondering if you could give me some tips, precisely how to find a solicitor for my entry and exit into and out of the UK application. I'm finding difficult to find one and I will need it to certify my photo identification. Thanks very much in advance for your help!
Hiya! I had a personal connection who did that for me, but I googled to see if there were solicitors providing that service and how much they charge so I could mention in the video and I remember seeing some websites that provided that service. Sorry I can't be of much help 😞
Congratulations on becoming a British Citizen. And you're right. I would have been equally confused if someone asked me if I like celebrating festivals. I think he needs to take English lessons 🤔 😂 Well done you😀your English is DEFINITELY better than his lol
Thank you so much! It's good to know. Since he was British, and he was the one assessing me, I got even more confused 🤣🤣🤣 my English is not perfect (specially because I don't think before I speak 😅) but I do my best!! ☺️
@Daniela Azzip Trips I'd have definitely asked him if he's having me on with a phrase like that lol. Give yourself more credit for your English. It's brilliant. Having watched almost all your videos I can honestly say your English is very good. I have never had any issues understanding. There's the odd word here and there which isn't right but let's face it, I still know what you're saying, you still get the point across and anyone who can speak another language and speak that language fluently is amazing. I'd love to speak another language as well as you do. I can talk a bit of German and tried to talk German when I was over there but its not enough to hold a conversation. Well done 😀
@@RevZolution thank you! In all honesty, I am as comfortable speaking English as I am speaking Portuguese, but I definitely do more grammar mistakes in English (which many times happen because I don't think before I speak). At the moment I kind of think in both languages, and with some people we often have these funny conversations where we speak half Portuguese, half English 🤣 I actually struggle now speaking about some topics in Portuguese as I don't remember the words anymore 😅
Hi Daniela!! Congratulations on your achievement 🎉🎉 can you share how you found a solicitor to certify your ID copy? Also, maybe it is also your case and you would know the answer for this - in the past 5 years I used two passports (since the first one expired in 2019), do you also need the copy of the first passport? Obrigada!!
Hi Rafaela, thank you for watching and leaving a comment! I was lucky enough that I know personally a solicitor as she used to be my client, but if you look it up online I believe you can find one by searching on Google. You can also ask on Facebook groups of your area or Nextdoor, I am pretty sure you can find someone there. They don't charge a lot so it's just a matter of finding someone in the first place. As for your second question, yes, they do ask for copies/photos of all passports you used in the last 5 years, so you would certainly need that. Uma ótimo fim de semana e boa sorte 🥰😘
Congratulations to you and your partner! Just a question, did they took away your portuguese passport during the biometric appointment? And if yes, how long did it took to return it to you? Thanks in advance
Hi there, thank you so much! 😊 Yes they did. I had to send my Portuguese passport alongside my British certificate (all original documents). I received my British passport first, and only about 3 weeks later my Portuguese one, so I was probably without it for about 1 month and a half or so
Is there any way to get a visa that could lead to indefinite leave to remain(to eventually retain citizenship) without going to school in the UK or getting a UK job? I really am interested in becoming a uk citizen one day and I have my own business in America so there’s no need for me to go to school there or get a job at a British company. But I’d be willing to move my business to the uk of course.
About 2/3 years ago I did some research about visas for some videos I created for this channel, and the answer at the time would be no. HMRC said they were not looking to provide self employment visas at least in the nearest future. Its been a while, so I would recommend looking into it again. If you have your own business and would like to live here you would most likely fit into that category. Good luck!
Hello Dani, Congratulations for becoming a british citizen! 🙂 Could you please let me know what test you chosen to prove your knowledge of English please? You've mentioned that you had to have a chat on an ipad for that and it costed you £150.
Hi there, thank you so much for watching! Yes, that's correct. I did a GESE Grade 5 (B1) with Trinity College London. I looked it up on other providers and the prices were pretty much the same.
Hey Daniela, Great video and very helpfull content. I have a question, do you know if it is possibe to travel after submititng your application ? or is the best time to travel after biometric appointment? I need to travel to visit my family, but I am worry they would count that days towards my application, which would be a problem for me.
Hi, thank you for watching and appreciate you leaving a comment! I don't think it will affect your application if you travel after you've submitted all of your information and complete the form. That being said, there are a few things to consider. Your application won't be fully submitted until you have your biometrics done. While I don't think it would be an issue, I would personally wait just in case. Also, if those extra days would make you exceed the amount of days you are supposed to stay in the country, I would certainly wait until I get my citizenship before traveling again 🤣
Hi Daniela, thank you for your video and congrats on your achievement. I nearly have everything ready and I'm gonna take the Life in the Uk test very soon. I got stuck at one point which is quite confusing. When you had to prove you lived in the country for 5 years, did you provide evidence for the first five years (before getting your settled status) or after? I'm asking because i have lived here for nearly 10 years and got my status about 5 years ago
Hi there, thank you for watching! I moved in September 2015 and the referendum took place the year after so I got my status not longer after my move. They just want proof that you have been living here for 5 years so having the last 5 years as proof will be enough (so I assume even your status should serve as proof)
@@danielazziptrips ok thank you for that I moved to the UK the year before you did and got my status in 2019. The majority of my colleagues are extra European and all they had to do was scan the passport pages (with the entry/exit stamp) but as Europeans we never get stamps so that's why it was a bit of a hassle to figure out to prove the residence. Thank you so much!
Daniela first congratulations !! In my case I have applied and submitted my application by the app on October So it wasn’t necessary going to the biometric appointment, It was simple ,Took a pic from my phone and follow the instructions about fingerprint and that’s it . However I didn’t receive any answer from the Home office yet . I don’t know how long the process can take about the letter decision. Any way , It was quite curious about the English test because the examinador asked the same question to me … I answered , The Edinburgh Festival ? 😅 and she was surprised about my answer 😂. How long do you receive the email about your well successful and expensive way to become BC ?
Hi, thank you for watching and sharing your experience! Since we weren't allowed to do Biometrics through the app, I did wonder how it would be to do it that way. The decision for our citizenship took only about a month and a half, but they did say it could take up to 6 months to hear back from them - so you're still ok! Hopefully they will be quick and you will get your decision soon :) As for the English test, glad to know I was not the only one to get confused 🤣🤣 Also, is your last name Portuguese by any chance? ☺️
Never had Biometric card and never did one . Didn’t affected me and if you have ID’s you do not need to make any ,because can prove your docs. were your services need. If u don’t have any documents . Then you must make un Biometric card . Couse must be evidentiate by country were you live. This how it work in life
We don't have a Biometric card as well. But we had to attend a Biometrics Appointment to get our finger prints taken, photo taken and signature recorded for the application :)
Hi Dani, One thing I am no idea about to apply ILR after one year to be applied. Just for in case, If I late apply about 2 months. For example: An original date of apply is 5 April in 2024. But, Unlucky, I will late to apply on 30 of May approximate. Is there any penalty or will it be rejected for my application due to late apply? Thank you for your share.
Hi Simon, thank you for watching the video! In all honesty, I have absolutely no idea. It's been ages since I last did mine or read anything about the ILR, so I don't really have any advice on this I'm afraid 😕
Hi, thanks for sharing and congrats on your achievement! I was wondering....did you have to send your european passport to uk gov for checks? When does this happen in the process? As I want to avoid to get stuck with travels
Hi Dany Do you know if home office called the two referees and ask questions? and if they did what are the questions the referees would be asked? Thanks
Hi, as far as I know, this rarely happens - I assume they probably only call if something is not right with your application. I also assume they will ask about your relationship with them and what they know about you. Again, these are only my assumptions so take it with a grain of salt. Hope it was helpful nonetheless.
Obrigado pelo vídeo, acredito que deu mt trabalho para fazer e editar e a informação contida sera mt util para minha aplicação. Principalmente na parte dos tais 5 anos, que a pessoa tem que colocar a datas de tdas as viagens.
I'm so sorry that I am replying this late, but this might help other people: from what I remember, i had to bring my passport and any supporting documents. They generally send you a list of what you need for your appointment.
Hi there, my declarations were signed and scanned. Since they need to sign it I assume they could do it digitally if they can add their signature that way (?)
Thank you! I am Portuguese, so when I moved to the UK back in 2015 (pre-Brexit), I could simply work and live here without a visa. I moved here because work conditions in my home country weren't (and still aren't) very good, so I was looking for a better life
@@Interesting12350 I hope you're enjoying it so far! Who knows! It does require some time so you will probably need to study for a fair amount of years or find other visas until you can apply for your citizenship!
Hi Dani, a question I'm genuinely curious to know about is why did you even want to be a UK citizen? I mean you're Portuguese right so you have the same if not more benefits anyway no?
Just like @sidudumba mentioned, since UK left the EU, things are now different. Without a citizenship, I would be relying on a settlement status in order to have the right to live and work here. As someone who has lived in the UK for almost 8 years, I would prefer to have that piece of mind. Also, if I need to leave the country for a long time for whatever reason (traveling, family emergency, etc.), that will affect my ability to get a citizenship in the future, so it was better to do it now that I met all of the criteria. Lastly, a very small benefit that is irrelevant but I just like it is the fact that the British passport is cheaper and lasts longer than my Portuguese one, and having it full of stamps and being able to keep it it's something that I appreciate, regardless of how trivial that is 🤣 (in Portugal, they take our passports away once we renew them so we don't get to keep them).
So you don't get your passport at the ceremony. You get your Biometrics done, then you wait to get a response. Once you are approved, you wait a couple of day and then you can book your ceremony. You will need your certificate in order to apply for your British Passport, so you need to get your citizenship done in the first place 👍
Hi Emma, this was an acquaintance which made it a lot easier, but there's plenty of solicitors who offer this service online too. Wishing you all the luck!
Hi there, according to gov.uk, I'm afraid it doesn't matter how long you've been staying in the UK for, you still have to wait 12 months from the date you get your indefinite leave to remain (ILR) until you can apply for your British citizenship - and you have to, of course, live in the UK for those 12 months. Hope that helps 😊
I find that this one depends on what questions you get. I had a fair amount of questions that were not on any of the online tests. My partner not so much. I also find interesting learning the history so didn't mind that too much :)
Thanks for your video. Just wondering if you have used the Home Office data base to check your trips outside Uk. Did they give you this all this information about your trips? Thanks
Yes I did! It took about a month for them to send me that information and I had to fill out some details prior and get a solicitor to confirm my identity in order to get those details. They send you all of the records they hold from your trips in the last 5 years (which is exactly what you need).
@@laysaalmeida3469 com certeza! Aqui está o link: www.gov.uk/government/publications/requests-for-personal-data-uk-visas-and-immigration/request-personal-information-held-by-uk-visas-and-immigration
I don't think I got an email confirming that it was sent no, but to be honest, I don't remember. All you have to do now is wait. They say it can take up to 6 months, so only after that you should start checking in to see if something went wrong. It takes different times to different people as this depends on a variety of reasons, so just wait patiently and hopefully you will get your citizenship really soon! 😊
Working status I did touch on it very briefly. I am self employed so my working status proof is going to be different than employees. The addresses I do think I forgot to mention, but it was pretty straightforward in the application!
Hi there, I don't remember exactly, but if you check the dates (I put the dates on every single step) you will see how long it was since I went for the biometrics and when I got the email saying that my citizenship was approved. I hope you got yours by now!
It really varies. On our case, it took a month and a half to get the decision from the home office and only after that we could book our cerimony, but they can take up to 6 months to give you a decision.
When you go for your biometrics and all that caper, I don't think you are supposed to be filming or bringing your phone in there. Lucky you didn't get caught.
I am pretty sure you are allowed to have your phone with you. Sure, you're not supposed to be recording it. I left my phone on the ground just pointing at me as I wanted to record the process for the sake of this video. I did not record anyone else, as I generally don't do it without having the person's consent anyways.
@@danielazziptrips When I did my biometrics in Australia they make you put all your belongings in a locker and when I did the life in the uk test I were stripsearched. When I did biometrics for ILR there was nothing saying no phones but I don't think they would have wanted me recording if they saw me with a phone.
Congratulations 🎉 and thanks for video/update 🙂. But £1330 for application? Like WHAT 🤬? You will pay taxes in UK and they want you to pay this huge amount of money for it 🤯😡.
I will be honest, I actually thought it could be more. Getting a citizenship is always a lot of paper work and definitely pricey fees. They obviously don't want anyone to take it and I have to confess that British Citizenship wasn't necessarily hard to get once you have been in the country for long enough, so I guess it is what it is 😉
I've seen some of the 'mock' tests and even though I wasn't born in the UK, I've been here for all my education and I didn't know a lot of the questions. Like who gives a shit about stuff in the Middle Ages, and why is that relevant??
Yeah it's a common thing, a lot of Brits won't know the answer to those questions either. I guess they just want British citizens to know the history and get to know the UK on a deeper lever (patriotism). I personally found it enjoyable to learn about it.

Congratulations! 🙂👍
Thank you so much 😊😊
Thanks, this video will help lot of people
I sure hope so 🙏
I hope get my decision after month and half can't wait to be british 🙏
Ours was certainly quick and I hope yours can be too! ☺️
hey ! any updates ? I’m currently going for a month waiting for mine now , i hope that i could get mine after a month and a half too 🥺
Mine has been over 2 months now still waiting
well done, all the best
Thanks so much! 😊
Congratulations on becoming a British Citizen. And you're right. I would have been equally confused if someone asked me if I like celebrating festivals. I think he needs to take English lessons 🤔 😂
Well done you😀your English is DEFINITELY better than his lol
At the moment I kind of think in both languages, and with some people we often have these funny conversations where we speak half Portuguese, half English 🤣 I actually struggle now speaking about some topics in Portuguese as I don't remember the words anymore 😅
thks for video! rule we dont need to tell them if less or 2 days trip ! which makes sense! short trip
It really does! I thought it would be every single trip and I was glad that wasn't the case ☺️ thank you for watching!
Good luck!
@@danielazziptrips thank you for responding :)
Hello Dani,
Congratulations for becoming a british citizen! 🙂
Could you please let me know what test you chosen to prove your knowledge of English please?
Any way , It was quite curious about the English test because the examinador asked the same question to me …
I answered , The Edinburgh Festival ? 😅 and she was surprised about my answer 😂.
How long do you receive the email about your well successful and expensive way to become BC ?
Hi, thank you for watching and sharing your experience! Since we weren't allowed to do Biometrics through the app, I did wonder how it would be to do it that way. The decision for our citizenship took only about a month and a half, but they did say it could take up to 6 months to hear back from them - so you're still ok! Hopefully they will be quick and you will get your decision soon :)
As for the English test, glad to know I was not the only one to get confused 🤣🤣
Also, is your last name Portuguese by any chance? ☺️
Hi where did u book the english test?
Never had Biometric card and never did one . Didn’t affected me and if you have ID’s you do not need to make any ,because can prove your docs. were your services need.
If u don’t have any documents . Then you must make un Biometric card . Couse must be evidentiate by country were you live. This how it work in life
We don't have a Biometric card as well. But we had to attend a Biometrics Appointment to get our finger prints taken, photo taken and signature recorded for the application :)
Hi Dani,
One thing I am no idea about to apply ILR after one year to be applied.
Hi there and sorry for the delay! I only sent my European passport when I applied for my passport, and they kept it until they did my British one
@@danielazziptrips thanks so much
Hi Dany
Do you know if home office called the two referees and ask questions? and if they did what are the questions the referees would be asked? Thanks
Hi, as far as I know, this rarely happens - I assume they probably only call if something is not right with your application. I also assume they will ask about your relationship with them and what they know about you. Again, these are only my assumptions so take it with a grain of salt. Hope it was helpful nonetheless.
Many thanks. 🙏🙏
Hi quick question did you have to take anything with you when you went to register for your biometric ?
I'm so sorry that I am replying this late, but this might help other people: from what I remember, i had to bring my passport and any supporting documents. They generally send you a list of what you need for your appointment.
Hey Daniela. How long do u have to send the documents after u paid for the British citizenship???
Hiya, to be completely honest, I have no idea. I have done my citizenship a while ago so I can't remember how much time we had to do that:(
Hi Danella! Just wondering if the referee declaration form has to be done handwritten or not.
Hi there, my declarations were signed and scanned. Since they need to sign it I assume they could do it digitally if they can add their signature that way (?)
Congratulations 🎉👏. BTW if I may ask, what was the reason you came to the UK and what Visa was Grant you when you arrived for the first time?.
Thank you! I am Portuguese, so when I moved to the UK back in 2015 (pre-Brexit), I could simply work and live here without a visa. I moved here because work conditions in my home country weren't (and still aren't) very good, so I was looking for a better life
@@danielazziptrips oh that's nice. I recently moved to the UK under a student visa and I'd love to become a citizen someday.
For settlement and no need for complications since UK has left the EU
@@danielazziptripsYou could always declare it lost when it expires..😉🫣
Please when you went for your biometrics, did they scan every page of your passport containing visas or stamps if u did travelled outside Uk ??
I honestly don't remember but I would assume so yes
After biometrics how long does it take for the British passport to arrive
So you don't get your passport at the ceremony. You get your Biometrics done, then you wait to get a response. Once you are approved, you wait a couple of day and then you can book your ceremony. You will need your certificate in order to apply for your British Passport, so you need to get your citizenship done in the first place 👍
Thank you ❤
Pleasure! Thank you for watching 🥰
Hi there, I was wondering which solicitor you went to to certify the copy of your passport? Thank you :)
Hi Emma, this was an acquaintance which made it a lot easier, but there's plenty of solicitors who offer this service online too. Wishing you all the luck!
@@danielazziptrips great thanks for replying! :) last question, was it just the ID page of the passport that was required?
Can I apply for citizenship straight from pre settled if I have been here longer than 6 years? Thank you in advance!!
@@danielazziptrips thank you Daniela for your help, I don’t remember where I saw it, I’ll apply for the settlement first then this week. :)
Congratulations ! For me is tomorrow 😊

Hello, I have been married to a British citizen for 3 years. Do I have the right to apply for Indefinite leave to remain?? And thank you
I honestly can't answer that question. Please check on HMRC website
Don't waste time to study the British history, just practice tests online and memorise answers and you will pass easy trust me .
I find that this one depends on what questions you get. I had a fair amount of questions that were not on any of the online tests. My partner not so much. I also find interesting learning the history so didn't mind that too much :)
Love you 😍 💗
Thanks for your video.

How about proving your adresses and working status? You are not talking about these un your video at all.
Working status I did touch on it very briefly. I am self employed so my working status proof is going to be different than employees. The addresses I do think I forgot to mention, but it was pretty straightforward in the application!

In total will be £1700 something and another £75 or £80 for passport. This is what i done for mine

Yeah it's a common thing, a lot of Brits won't know the answer to those questions either. I guess they just want British citizens to know the history and get to know the UK on a deeper lever (patriotism). I personally found it enjoyable to learn about it.
