Just curious with your process on the key of the vocals especially for the vocal ad libs track as the pitch changes would you still aim for the change in semi-tones to be within the key of the track? And would these be within the same key as the main vocal being pitched down? Thanks!
Hey there. Cheers for the question. For the main vocal, the original was in F# major. If you want to get from any major key to its minor key you just move down 3 semitones so in this case it would be Ebm. I think I wrote the melodic lines first which allowed me to find this vocal by searching for vocals in one of those keys. With the ad libs, the selection process was a bit more random without much consideration about the key as I was searching by lyric. Ideally we want both vocals to be in key with one another, but a number of things like the fact the adlib layer was spoken instead of sung makes this less important as the key becomes less clear. Here, I think it is more important to let your ears guide you on what works by playing it with the melodic elements. Hope that helps
